I wish Ebay would add a category to report these arseholes.

If some twat wants to buy a 47p product for £19 then knock yourself out. Darwin's theory at play there.....

But seeing OAPs asking in shops for this knowing some utter low life has bought the entire delivery to sell on eBay gives me rage.

I bet Ebay love their cut. I would report it but theres no category.

Arseholes. Yes I am aware I need to get a life and go back to looking for a last minute fucking world book day costume in my dress up pile of doom, but this is why I hate humans and hope viruses kill our species off somedays

"making the skin more vulnerable to viruses, not less"

You can't catch coronavirus through your skin, it isn't a blood-borne virus. It specifically binds to lung cells, inhaling it is the only known transmission route.

SwansGlide · 04/03/2020 12:03

It's make do and mend time folks. I am planning on making my own portable reusable antibac wipes - a sandwich bag containing cotton hankies soaked in water and liquid disinfectant, and another sandwich bag to put the used hanky wipes in. Chuck in the hot wash back at home - bob's your uncle! Smile

Legoandloldolls · 04/03/2020 12:04

People are buying toilet roll because of the panic buying in Hong Kong.

Or they need it for world book day as mummies are in this year?

I'm nervous as I'm immune suppressed cant get the hand gel anywhere

I know it won't help with the Coronavirus but it's an every day essential for myself

Can't afford the eBay prices

I've been to 9 shops this morning and no luck

Legoandloldolls · 04/03/2020 12:06

Or you can use a foam wash / bar of soap then wipe off with baby wipes ( the ones the biodegrade)

Cashier at home bargains said a woman bought what stock remained and proudly told her she would be selling it on ebay. Apparently there are plans in place to limit 2 per person.

I notice there was no hand soap in my tesco last night

ChocolateQuiltedShitPig · 04/03/2020 12:08

@Fraggle45 I hope you find some soon x

HighNetGirth · 04/03/2020 12:08

Buy rubbing alcohol or meths or turpentine and use that. Or carry a box of disposable gloves with you.

What I want is some hideous smelly deterrent spray so no one comes near me anyway. Job done!

Legoandloldolls · 04/03/2020 12:09

Primark nearly always has hand gel. I would keep a eye out in there. In desperate times they also sell unicorn ones for £2. So look out for them. If not its 80p for 100ml. Overv70% alcohol.

Dont forget your compulsory Primark purchase of two billion hair bubbles for £1. Another good purchase when you buy them every trip and forget you already have 95 packs at home and a shaved head

I saw one on eBay yesterday that was listed as "half used"!! ShockShock It was a tenner for a half used 50ml bottle!

AspergersMum · 04/03/2020 12:10

Shops are running out of liquid handsoap today! Hope they are able to restock quickly. Only the most expensive brands were left at 4 shops we went to.

AspergersMum · 04/03/2020 12:11

Primark is out of handgel Legoandloldolls. Ours only had a handwash without the high alcohol content, so no good.

Hearthside · 04/03/2020 12:12

@ShesGotBetteDavisEyes i live rurally and it is sold out completely in our local town you can get it nowhere , normally loads of it .I use it for work but my employer supplies it .

Hearthside · 04/03/2020 12:14

Cant not can 🙈.

sleepingpup · 04/03/2020 12:14

Presumably he has breaks or does he have to wee in his bus too??

Presumably you've never been on a bus journey? Jeez classic snark.

yep hand washing is better! yep hand gel has to be over whatever % etc etc!

BUT IN SOME SITUATIONS IT IS BETTER THAN NOTHING!!!!

God only on Mumsnet would you have to constantly bloody justify this small "just in case purchase".

If you keep hands away from face how can it be transferred to your nose eyes or mouth?

Do you wear glasses? No didnt think so.

No it isn't essential but its a nice thing to have in your pocket.
IN CASE.

whyisitsoflammingdifficult · 04/03/2020 12:15

There’s also anti bacterial hand wipes, are they sold out too?

I realise that not everyone has access to a sink to wash their hands during the day and that carrying a bottle of hand sanitiser is convenient, however people who are concerned about the virus could use their imagination a bit and improvise....

My thoughts are based on germs are killed using hot water and soap:

  • carry a flask of hot water and use hand wipes/baby wipes/kitchen roll or face cloths ect and carry a small bottle of hand wash/ or bar of soap (stored in a food storage bag or small Tupperware box) and wash your hands outside/side of the car/or before you get on /off public transport ect. And carry a storage bag for the dirty cloths.
  • carry already soaked face cloths with added soap stored in a wet bag (similarly used for cloth nappy users) or you could put the cloths in a small Tupperware box, so there’re already covered in soap and use the hot water from a flask to rinse your hands. And carry a storage bag for the dirty cloths.
AdoraBell · 04/03/2020 12:15

Fraggle I bought surgical spirit in Boots yesterday. The bottle says it kills all bacteria and viruses. You can mix that, or rubbing alcohol, with something like after sun gel.

If you can’t get those then vodka is another option.

Someone else on MN said 1 tablespoon of the liquid to a quarter cup of the gel. Then you just a bottle, most pharmacies carry travel size bottle sets.

toomuchtooold · 04/03/2020 12:18

if you can throw your 20p pasta in the trolley faster than it can be scanned

It gave me great satisfaction, on moving to Germany, to find out that they do it at all the supermarkets here. It's so annoying. As for stockpiling, we are also out of hand gel - and I noticed in the supermarket on Monday that they had also run out of margherita pizzas, tinned ravioli, instant coffee, flour, sugar, and antibacterial sports liquid for washing your clothes. And kidney beans. I think people get confused as to what sort of crisis it is they're supposed to be planning for here.

Sorry I know you mean well but this made me roar with laughter. I may well be eating my words.

IHateUserName · 04/03/2020 12:21

You should see it in Australia - no toilet paper on the shelves & people selling packs that normally go for under $10 for nearly $30! There is currently a pack of 36 rolls on sale on ebay for $500!!

HowlsMovingBungalow · 04/03/2020 12:22

I'm off out to buy meths and tinned ravioli - sorted!

picklebarrelfalls · 04/03/2020 12:23

antibacterial sports liquid for washing your clothes

I'm not suggesting everyone tries it but I put a smidge of zoflora in certain washes, if I think bacteria is a problem. Also use napisan too.
(I have always had a problem with excessive underarm sweating and clothes still smelling after a regular wash before anyone gets on my back about being a clean freak or whatever other insults you're thinking of!)!

JasonBrun · 04/03/2020 12:25

But why does it matter? It's not an essential item so if people are willing to pay surely that is their own ridiculoussness

alittleprivacy · 04/03/2020 12:26

High alcohol content hand sanitisers are effective and a good option for time when it's not actually possible to wash your hands. A relative who is a care worker for the elderly told me yesterday their advice is to wash hands thoroughly when arriving at and leaving the home of each client but to also use hand sanitiser before and after entry. It's just common sense.

DS and I are washing our hands extremely regularly. Both after arriving home and before we leave (in order to protect others in case we are infected). We are keeping our nails cut very short to minimise dirt under the nails. But I also carry a small bottle of high alcohol content sanitiser and use it when out and about. If I'm touching items in a shop and then want to touch my face, watch, phone or car key, I use the sanitiser first. I use the hand sanitiser before touching my car. I regularly disinfect my door handles, steering wheel, phone, watch and key.

Do I feel like Niles Crane? Yes.
Am I likely being more cautious than necessary? Yes.
Are DS and I low risk people who will probably have mild symptoms if infected? Yes.
But getting through an outbreak means being 50% selfish, 50% selfless and slowing the spread will make an enormous difference to how health services can cope. We all have a massive duty to be well educated and to take every precaution we can. Some possibly OTT extra care to increase containment is something we should all be doing.

Robuns · 04/03/2020 12:29

Every thread like this has the enlightened saying how washing hands with soap is better. Of course it is! But if you use public transport or something it's unlikely that your stop has a sink and supply of soap, as long as it has the required alcohol level it is much better than nothing. Also lots of shops are sold out of anti bac liquid soap, so people are 'going crazy over soap' as a previous poster posted. I agree OP, it's gross. Thankfully there seems to be some on the shelves here today so hopefully it won't be in such short supply soon and people are lumbered with huge quantities.
