I wish Ebay would add a category to report these arseholes.

If some twat wants to buy a 47p product for £19 then knock yourself out. Darwin's theory at play there.....

But seeing OAPs asking in shops for this knowing some utter low life has bought the entire delivery to sell on eBay gives me rage.

I bet Ebay love their cut. I would report it but theres no category.

Arseholes. Yes I am aware I need to get a life and go back to looking for a last minute fucking world book day costume in my dress up pile of doom, but this is why I hate humans and hope viruses kill our species off somedays

The point of the travel sanitisers is not everyone DOES have access to water when they are out and about.

Kazzyhoward · 04/03/2020 11:36

My brother is a bus driver. He doesn't have access to water. Nor do many other people whose jobs have them out and about rather than in a building.

Presumably he has breaks or does he have to wee in his bus too??

ViveLEntenteCordiale · 04/03/2020 11:40

I've had the email from eBay too, so hopefully they'll be able to stop this. I'm not a business seller but do sell items in the health and beauty category (make up usually, never hand gel!). They must be sending it out selectively because DH, who sells unrelated items, didn't get the email.

Devlesko · 04/03/2020 11:40

I don't have any gel, and when I need anti bac I'll make it myself.
Only idiots would pay that much, and we are being advised to wash hands, a quick wipe with that isn't as good as proper hand washing.

HowlsMovingBungalow · 04/03/2020 11:42

How many loo breaks do you think public transport workers have? You'd have no fucking working service if they were finding public toliets and nipping off everytime some twit coughed handling money over.
Hmm

Floribundance · 04/03/2020 11:45

Profiteering arseholes.

Legoandloldolls · 04/03/2020 11:46

Mine isn't playing ball. She is going in her own clothes with her brother's ikea toy tiger and a cup.nazi tiger that came to tea
It will have to do.
Teacher said - if it's easier she can come as a word...
My reply - unwashed? unkempt? untidy?*

Yes I'm low level book day too. I was thinking Nelson Mandela from.his autobiography but maybe that's too obvious? We had two last year dress up as him. Maybe Mosses from the bible? Or Noah? I have the time to paper mache the Ark if I skip dressage lessons for the triplets AND my afternoon "advanced brain surgery for beginners course"

Damm, it might have just be Elsa. Surely no one has a Elsa dress?????

So are these out and about workers always carrying bucket loads of hand jell on them or is this just a new thing because of corona?

Very few people have absolutely 0 access to running water, added to which the hand sanitiser is actually useless anyway so is just a placebo really and pointless.

As for the sellers, good luck to them. If people are so stupid that they pay those kinds of prices for a completely useless product it’s hardly surprising that someone is going to cash in on that is it?

I couldn’t do it myself but I couldn’t get that worked up about what the stupid spend their money on either.

fantasmasgoria1 · 04/03/2020 11:47

I have always carried a small hand gel just in case I need it for whatever reason. My mil has some left from when her late husband had carers. My fiance bought a massive bottle when all of this happened and I said there is no need just wash your hands. He actually mainly does just wash his hands. I think whilst it's OK to be concerned etc it's good to keep things in proportion too. I'm not personally really worried right now.

NastiestThing · 04/03/2020 11:50

I don't get how people get by with just soap and water. Surely you need a sink for that? I prefer to carry hand gel as well because it means I can use it wherever I am, especially after using public transport etc

whyisitsoflammingdifficult · 04/03/2020 11:51

Typically viruses are more resistant to disinfectants than bacteria, but coronavirus is an enveloped virus, so it has an outer membrane formed of oil and fat. All enveloped viruses are very susceptible to soaps and detergents, which explode the outer membranes, rendering them ineffective.

Alcohol can also effectively attack the structure. The NHS and Public Health England both agree that to kill most viruses, a hand sanitiser needs at least 60% alcohol content – with most containing 60-95%.

However, hand sanitisers won’t get rid of certain types of germs, dirt and chemicals, whereas soap will, which is why hand-washing is preferred

www.google.co.uk/amp/s/metro.co.uk/2020/03/03/hand-sanitizer-effective-soap-water-make-12339048/amp/

Also Hand sanitiser may not be as effective when hands are visibly dirty or greasy so if you keep on applying hand sanitiser to unwashed hands it’s not going to protect you as much as washing your hands would do.

Capitalism at its worst. Playing on people's fears. Revolting.

DanielRicciardosSmile · 04/03/2020 11:53

Presumably he has breaks or does he have to wee in his bus too??

I somehow doubt he has chance for a break every time he touches some money or he (or a passenger) coughs/sneezes. Just as checkout operators and bank cashiers don't have time to wash their hands after every customer they serve.

WeeNippy · 04/03/2020 11:54

I've seen 50 ml bottles of clinell hand gel, which is anti viral, selling for £120 on Amazon Shock. I can get it through my work for a couple to quid. People are insane if they are actually paying these prices. Personally I just wear leather gloves if using public transport, supermarket shopping, using cash machines etc, but I've always done this and thankfully it's winter so I don't look daft.

Isthistrueor · 04/03/2020 11:54

Anyone buying that is a stupid dick.

HowlsMovingBungalow · 04/03/2020 11:55

I've also carried hand gel as work in retail (jewellery trade so handling lots of ick jewellery) and also do a lot of hiking, there aint no sinks out in the countryside. We live rurally, if DP is out in deep countryside with taxi and needs a piss he doesn't drive to find a public toliet and sink to wash his hands. He uses a hedge and anti bac.

Ken1976 · 04/03/2020 11:56

Hand washing is much more effective at killing the virus. I wouldn't waste my money paying 50p never mind £20 😂

ifIwerenotanandroid · 04/03/2020 11:57

Why ARE people stockpiling toilet paper? It was the only thing to have valished in town yesterday. Seems to me it's the one thing you can improvise if necessary, unlike food.

Is it a race memory of a past toilet paper shortage? I can't remember when it was, but people were pinching loo rolls from public toilets. Anyone know when that was?

And as for imflated prices, I remember the 1970s power cuts. The price of candles went up a lot & when queried, one seller said, "Well, there's a wax shortage, isn't there?". Yeah, right.

woodchuck99 · 04/03/2020 11:58

Yes, it's really nasty that anyone would exploit the vulnerable like this. I really hope that the manufacturers hurry up and make more so these tossers lose out. I've noticed Amazon do remove them but they just reappear.

Hagbeth · 04/03/2020 11:59

Maten it’s possible to make hand gel? Cheap strong booze and gelatine? Grin

AnneKipanki · 04/03/2020 11:59

World book day ; dress all in black , curve over , say you are a comma.
That was for the person upthread , not related to the hand gel .

slartibarti · 04/03/2020 12:00

I don't understand how hand gel has become an essential item.
If you keep hands away from face how can it be transferred to your nose eyes or mouth?

AnneKipanki · 04/03/2020 12:00

It was for @YouGoTeIIDrDreDat
Will that help ?

Kazzyhoward · 04/03/2020 12:02

Hand washing is much more effective at killing the virus.

Of course, but if you can't wash your hands with soap/water, then using anti bac gel is the next best thing.
