I just said 'feeding' or 'breast feeding' HATE the term boobing - it sounds icky sorry!

Oysterbabe · 02/03/2020 20:25

(although he usually slaps me on the boob while saying it) Hmm

Namechangexyz1 · 02/03/2020 20:26

What’s wrong with baby wearing?

You wear a coat. You were a dress. You don't wear a baby, it isn't a garment or a fashion accessory.

You carry your baby in a sling, you're not wearing your baby.

Shahlalala · 02/03/2020 20:27

@Goodgollymiss that’s so sad, but I know what you mean. I had someone tell me it was pointless after the colostrum and I was doing it for me .... Confused

You are doing a wonderful thing and it’s awesome.

ivfbabymomma1 · 02/03/2020 20:27

I kinda think it's up there with amazeballs, hollibobs, hubby etc

Dontsayfuckorbugger · 02/03/2020 20:27

Its a pretty rank expression. Whats wrong with breast feeding.

MrsTerryPratchett · 02/03/2020 20:28

Pmsl at bottling the baby to sleep

I just snorted out loud at Starbucks at this. I'm from South London and it absolutely sounds like a threat. Poor baby Grin

Namechangexyz1 · 02/03/2020 20:28

Or with changing a bum!!! thats what your doing isnt it?^

Do you take the bum off and change it for a new one?

Or do you take the nappy off and change it?

You're changing the nappy not the bum.

I've never heard that phrase before and wouldn't have guessed it would mean breastfeeding. Its not a nice sounding phrase and I wouldn't like anyone to have used to about me feeding my children.

MrsTerryPratchett · 02/03/2020 20:34

which leaves us pretty confined to the house at times ... I do wish I had more confidence

I don't see why at 2. Surely a 2 tear old can have a cup of milk, bottle of water or wait if out and about.

I BF until after a year and didn't feed outside the house for most of that. Certainly at 12 months and later I didn't. Nothing against it but I can't see it was a reason not to go out.

schnubbins · 02/03/2020 20:36

Awful, just awful.Since when did nouns become verbs?

Goodgollymiss · 02/03/2020 20:36

MrsTerryPratchett she can be quite vocal and yes ... she calls it boob... or booooobbbbeeee

I absolutely despise ‘boobing’ and the deliberately jolly-hockey-sticks vibe of it. It’s trying to be chummy and cheerful and it just sounds desperately try hard to me.

‘Changing the baby’s bum’ is worse though. It’s genuinely disgusting - how are people not revolted when they hear themselves saying it? Why the desperation to use a word as naff and juvenile as ‘bum’?

I do judge people for these but only on the inside. I wouldn’t let it show Grin

BertieBotts · 02/03/2020 20:38

Seriously, it's not to my taste but don't worry what a load of random internet people on mumsnet think of a word Confused Use whichever words you like! If you find it funny or cute just carry on, it's fine. It's nothing offensive. Other people will probably also find it amusing. Be friends with them (or normal people who don't give a shit what words other people use), not snotty people who will judge you.

The secret to having more confidence is faking it, BTW. :) When you catch yourself thinking "Oh no, should I not have done that??" just hold your head high, brazen it out and act like it was the most natural, obvious thing in the world to do. Promise. It makes a huge difference. I found if I just got on with feeding my toddler as though I wasn't in the least bit concerned about it, people didn't mind at all. And even if that's something you don't have the confidence to breeze through at the moment, the fake it/act as though you're not in the slightest bit worried thing works for anything. People aren't really thinking about how socially awkward you are or analysing every word that you say, they are too busy wondering whether they have put their foot in it or worn the wrong shade of orange or what people are thinking about them.

It works wonders on toddlers, too. If you're the type of person to want affirmation and feedback all the time you can find toddlers will run rings around you because they get frustrated that you don't seem to know what you want. If you just pick a decision and state it confidently, they respond so much better to that.

MrsTerryPratchett · 02/03/2020 20:39

Well there's your reason to call it 'food' or 'milk' avoiding all these issues!

A two year old screaming 'boob' sounds about right. Mine said fuck for truck for a memorable few weeks.

Natsku · 02/03/2020 20:41

@Goodgollymiss My 2 year old loudly demands booby but I started telling him no when we're out and about a few months ago and after a while he stopped asking so much, now it's rare that he'll ask outside of the house.

Haha, I say change the bum all the time, and I quite often do remark that I'm going to change it for a new one that doesn't make stinky poos. Wouldn't that be nice :o

They're small children, it's perfectly fine to use baby words when you talk to them.

GinnyStrupac · 02/03/2020 20:46

I've never heard this expression before this thread, thankfully, and despite having been a BFing mum and surrounded by other BFing mums.

HowManyToes · 02/03/2020 20:46

🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮

Ryantrain · 02/03/2020 20:48

Eww boobing is vomit inducing

Ryantrain · 02/03/2020 20:49

Changing bum is gross.

CustardySergeant · 02/03/2020 20:54

"I guess yabu - it's awful, please stop
Yabu - it's a normal expression"

You've given YABU for both options!

Goodgollymiss · 02/03/2020 20:56

@CustardySergeant sorry!! Yanbu - it's a normal expression
