Just been playing in my mind a little bit (slow day I guess).. just read on another post that people find the term boobing (breastfeeding) offensive, cringy, chav etc... I had NO idea.. I think I prob use this term alot... is this really a terrible word?

You see I honestly would have thought using the full word breastfeeding to be just to formal all the time... obviously it's not a big deal but I actually had no idea ... I hate hollibobbers Shock

"she needs some boob"

She needs some milk, surely? Confused

"Milk" "feeding" and "breastfeeding" all convey the message without the need for cringeworthy terms like "boobing"..

Ronnie27 · 02/03/2020 19:20

Pramming, bottling, Darling I’ve just calpol-ed the baby.

DaphneFanshaw · 02/03/2020 19:21
Grin Ha, I literally just said on a different thread that I am relaxed when it comes to cutesy shortenings of words. Even I can’t cope with boobing.
JasonBrun · 02/03/2020 19:21

Nothing wrong with it. Also really normal in all the circles I move in, plus my local breastfeeding support group etc.

I think it's just one of those Mumsnet things tbh

onlyoneoftheregimentinstep · 02/03/2020 19:21

Honestly, who cares? If you don't like the term don't use it.

WickedlyPetite · 02/03/2020 19:22

You could always just try "feeding".

I'm sure everyone who knows you will be aware that you mean breastfeeding.

JoshArcherStoleMyTractor · 02/03/2020 19:23

What I don't get admit either of these threads is the assumption if you don't say boob you must say breastfeed all the time. No! DS needs feeding, or I think he's hungry or, do you want some milk? I've used all of the above quote easily, DH never assumed I meant I was going to give DS a burger or a can of coke

YouFellAsleeep · 02/03/2020 19:23

No, don't say boob either! It honestly sounds ridiculous. There's nothing wrong with saying "does she need fed", "is she hungry". "is she looking for milk?". You don't have to be formal by using "breastfeeding" either, just don't use silly terms.

supersop60 · 02/03/2020 19:24

YABU. Awful.

Tunnocks34 · 02/03/2020 19:24

Doesn’t bother me particularly to be honest.

I don’t say it, I say feeding’

My MIL once bought my eldest DS in when he was a baby saying ‘Tunnocks he needs some booby juice’ THAT is revolting.

Going off on a tangent, she also can’t say trump/fart and calls that having a ‘bang bang’ she cannot bring herself to say the word vagina/labia/vulva and so refers to it as ‘her pee pee’. She once tried to call my sons penis a ‘tail’ and nearly had a heart attack when he said ‘no it’s a penis or a willy’

Goodgollymiss · 02/03/2020 19:24

Cool... yes for real Grin for what it's worth complete opposite of attention seekingBlush I have very few friends and only would say looking for boob etc in front of dh.... actually my low confidence is prob why I am over thinking all of this .. but guess going over every word that come out of your mouth in conversation is for a slightly heavier thread 🥴

So cringe, it just makes me think the person must be a bit dim

WentToMarket · 02/03/2020 19:25

Referring to babies as ‘boob monsters’ makes me feel a bit sick.

joffreyscoffees · 02/03/2020 19:25

It's bloody awful

drina27 · 02/03/2020 19:25

A tail? 🤣

KLS02 · 02/03/2020 19:26

wouldnt bother me

Lifeisgenerallyfun · 02/03/2020 19:27

It sounds like a category on porn hub tbh! What’s wrong with “feeding the baby”?Do you say you’re “spooning the cereal” or “forking the chips”???

Absolutepowercorrupts · 02/03/2020 19:29

Pmsl at bottling the baby to sleep,
IMO boob is a schoolboy term, it's a euphemism for breast, it sounds as though you're too squeamish to use the correct word.

Helpme1010 · 02/03/2020 19:29

Yes it makes me cringe! My brother used to always say to his girlfriend (in front of everyone, all the time, had it been my oh talking about my boobs constantly I’d have felt uncomfortable) . Oh he wants the boob, get the boob out, he loves being on the boob, boob him, ffs!! We know she breastfeeds, we know it comes from her breasts! Why the constant boob this and boob that... your child is hungry, your child needs comfort, your child needs feeding, feed the baby.. all would have done 😂 now I cringe at the word boob

Scout2016 · 02/03/2020 19:29

Hate the expression boobing, also hate breasts being called boobs. Boobing is much worse though, because you are making a horrible noun into a made up revolting verb. Plus it's not the "boob" a baby wants. It's the milk! They are hungry and want feeding.

Goodgollymiss · 02/03/2020 19:29

A tail... that's a new one BlushGrin

OP posts:
YappityYapYap · 02/03/2020 19:29

You have to compare it to the other form of feeding. Do people say "the baby just wants some bottle"? No they don't. They say "the baby just wants some milk". So why would anyone say "the baby just wants some boob?". They don't want your boob, they want the contents of it which is milk so they want milk, they want fed. I want to spew when I hear women saying "just away to give him some boob". People really don't say "just away to give some bottle" so the boob saying makes no bloody sense

coconuttelegraph · 02/03/2020 19:30

Yuck, horrible expression, I also hate to hear "changeing the baby's bum", why can't people say nappy.

I'd think you were a bit chavvy if you used either tbh
