Hello there! Would you care about what people would think if you are wearing fakes? i am an occasional replica purchaser myself, although i do have some real things, but some accessories and clothes are hugely overpriced (i feel like it is super stupid to pay £400 pounds for a gucci tshirt). I don't feel like my friends are noticing this, but still it worries me sometimes as people tend to think a lot of things. Especially if i constantly am in the environment where everyone wears real. Would you personally care about what people think? Would you continue to buy fakes?

YABU to buy copyright infringement items. It’s illegal and it’s tacky.

44PumpLane · 02/03/2020 12:54

Agree with Arthritica

Wearing and buying fake designer goods is awful!

GiveMyHeadPeaceffs · 02/03/2020 12:55

YABU I agree with @Arthritica

Hoppinggreen · 02/03/2020 12:55

I personally don’t like fakes and if I’m honest I probably would judge someone for wearing them. I do have some designer items but if I can’t afford them I buy high street or go without.
Fakes are by definition sold by criminals so buying them is supporting and encouraging illegal activities, I’m not sure but I think they are also liked to other illegal activities other than counterfeiting
I don’t care where people shop or what labels they do/don’t wear but yes, I do judge people wearing fakes

opticaldelusion · 02/03/2020 12:55

'Replica purchaser'. Grin You mean you're a criminal?

I think caring about designer items is vapid and pathetic and wearing fakes is illegal. Why not just not give a shit? Then you can save some money and not break the law.

Hoppinggreen · 02/03/2020 12:56

And don’t call them “replicas” they are fakes

Saddler · 02/03/2020 12:57

Cheap and tacky

JudgeRindersMinder · 02/03/2020 12:57

I wouldn’t be buying criminally funded fakes in the first place so it’s not something I’ve ever worried about

mnthrowaway202020 · 02/03/2020 12:57

I don't feel like my friends are noticing this,

Hate to break it to you but they probably have.

I would never wear replica things. I would never embarrass myself like that.

I’d either buy they real thing, and if I can’t afford it I’d either save up or buy something else! No one is forcing you to wear designer items. You’re just trying to force an image that you can’t afford. What’s wrong with buying a Topshop t shirt instead of a counterfeit Gucci t shirt when you can’t afford the real item?

I think once you’re clocked for wearing fake stuff, people will assume that every designer item you have is fake.

fashionistatoast · 02/03/2020 12:57

@opticaldelusion what i meant by replica is the imitation items, so not the one that have clear logos, but might resemble a shape or a pattern of the product

Chickychoccyegg · 02/03/2020 12:57

I wouldn't waste £400 on a Gucci t shirt, i also wouldn't wear a fake gucci t shirt, although i wouldnt care what people thought of what i was wearing.

RestaurantoffBroadway · 02/03/2020 12:57

I guess I'd question why I was hanging around with people who were bothered about real labels. If you're in fashion as a low paid runner or something you'll have to develop your own style surely?

mnthrowaway202020 · 02/03/2020 12:58

And therefore your image will have the opposite impact that you intended - people won’t think you’re fashionable and wealthy, they’ll think you’re just cheap and tacky.

Wahhhhh · 02/03/2020 12:58

I wouldn't buy fakes because I don't give a fuck about brand names.

And if you do care about brand names why would you buy fakes? Surely it's about quality?
I don't understand wearing fakes at all.

I don't understand brands like gucci and LV. Overpriced rubbish used to try and make people feel superior, when all it does is make you look like a mindless sheep with more money than sense.

DropYourSword · 02/03/2020 12:58

I wouldn’t care what other people thought. But by the same token, I wouldn’t buy fakes to try and pretend I had a real version of something because again, I wouldn’t care what people thought so why try to project that image!

Ploppymoodypants · 02/03/2020 12:59

I kind of judge people for wearing actual real designer goods, (I don’t mean for spending more of something good quality that will last. But fit spending lots on a white t shirt because it says Gucci on it). I think wearing fakes is even stranger because in my mind it’s trying to be something you are not , when the thing you are trying to be, isn’t that great anyway...

flower1994 · 02/03/2020 13:00

I wear whatever I want because I like it not because I'm particularly bothered about what others think

WickedlyPetite · 02/03/2020 13:00

As soon as I've spotted you wearing a fake, I'll assume every 'designer' item you wear is fake.

People probably have noticed, they're just too polite to say.

I'd rather spend £50on a well made, quality material, t-shirt with no name, than a Gucci fake.

Pootles34 · 02/03/2020 13:01

Agree entirely with Chicky - if you think it's stupid, why would you want to copy it?

It's cheap and tacky.

fashionistatoast · 02/03/2020 13:01

I get all of the points, but don't you feel like buying real stuff has no point as trends and fashion changes so fast?

OP posts:
DropYourSword · 02/03/2020 13:03

If you buy what you like then you don’t care if something’s “in fashion” or not.

DappledThings · 02/03/2020 13:03

I wouldn't have a clue if you were wearing a real or fake anything.

but might resemble a shape or a pattern of the product
Especially in this case. I wouldn't know that a particular cut of a tshirt is meant to look like a particular designer. Would anyone other than a tiny percentage of the population know this?

Hingeandbracket · 02/03/2020 13:05

Thankfully I don't feel compelled to dress in items with designer names plastered all over them. That's my choice. I wouldn't have any idea if your (say) t-Shirt or handbag with a very prominent designer name on it was real or fake - I have no interest in it and, like "personalised" car numbers, it all smacks of desperation and trying too hard to me.

Hingeandbracket · 02/03/2020 13:06

I get all of the points, but don't you feel like buying real stuff has no point as trends and fashion changes so fast?
I agree about "real stuff", but fakes are illegal and imho pointless anyway.

Lockheart · 02/03/2020 13:06

I don't have any problems with the replicas themselves, what concerns me is where they're coming from and who is profiting from them.

They're not produced legally and your money will be going towards criminal gangs and facilitating much more awful things than knock-off Chanel handbags.
