Boobing

Argh!!
In my sleep deprived state I'm going to explode soon. Help!!
My DD is a year old and still breastfeeds a lot, including overnight. Has never taken bottle so it's always just me.

I have a friend who is in the same boat so we are in contact a fair amount, basically giving each other tips, reassurance etc.

But she ALWAYS refers to breastfeeding as "boobing". I dont mind the word boob, but its constant.

"He boobs to sleep then he wakes up so I boob him to sleep again. When we cosleep he boobs all night. I try to boob him less during the day but he just wants boob"

She is the loveliest person in the world, but honestly I'm going to scream.

AIBU?

They can’t say feed because it wouldn’t make the point that they aren’t bottle feeding...
I AM USING MY BOOB... so have literally billions of us.

AlexaAmbidextra · 01/03/2020 20:46

Why not just say ‘feed’? Why does it always have to be emphasised that it’s a breastfeed?

4cats2kids · 01/03/2020 20:47

If breastfeeding is boobing, is giving birth cunting?

LolaSmiles · 01/03/2020 20:47

I don't mind saying boob as in "all they want is some boob".

I hate boob being used as a verb because most of the time the word "feed" would suffice.
Eg. I just need to boob (feed) the baby.
He boobed (fed) himself to sleep

The only people I know who use boob as a verb seem to enjoy drawing attention to the fact they breastfeed, love to find a way to make reference to it in any conversation etc, meanwhile most of us are quite happy flipping a boob out, feeding our babies and it's just our chosen feeding method.

SachaStark: your post has just given me and DH the best laugh we’ve had in ages! Thanks!!

Sexnotgender · 01/03/2020 20:48

Hate it!

I’ve got a neatly 13 month old I’m still feeding and I just say I’m feeding him. I don’t feel the need to spell out the fact I’m breastfeeding.

Thisismytimetoshine · 01/03/2020 20:48

Awful. Arf at “breastfeeding sounds very Victorian to me” 🤦‍♀️

Igglepigglesgrubbyblanket · 01/03/2020 20:49

AaaaaaAAAAAAAAArrrrrggggghhhhhh!

Yanbu

ExpletiveDelighted · 01/03/2020 20:49

Yes, just say feed or fed. Or hungry or wants some milk.

Igglepigglesgrubbyblanket · 01/03/2020 20:50

Completely approve of counting though 4cats

Thisismytimetoshine · 01/03/2020 20:51

Exactly. I’ve never felt the need to specify how the feeding is done, nor am I remotely interested in anyone else’s method.
Feeding works just fine.

MarthasGinYard · 01/03/2020 20:51

'Boobs easier to say multiple times than breastfeed, breastfed, put to my breast etc.'

'Feed' is pretty simple Confused

BUNNIESandBISCUITS · 01/03/2020 20:53

Breasticlating.

Igglepigglesgrubbyblanket · 01/03/2020 20:54

Cunting

LaMarschallin · 01/03/2020 20:55

Thisismytimetoshine

Exactly. I’ve never felt the need to specify how the feeding is done, nor am I remotely interested in anyone else’s method.

Exactly.

Although, I'm now somewhat regretful that I didn't emphasise that my babies needed jugs.

Not only competitive mode of feeding, but amounts too.

Thisismytimetoshine · 01/03/2020 20:55

Jesus, the whole point is that there’s no need for anyone to have to listen to you saying boob multiple times either! What is wrong with some people??

Nobody’s handing out medals for how you feed your baby, so stop with the performance boobing.

DimplesMcGee · 01/03/2020 20:56

”Boobs easier to say multiple times"

Than feed/fed?

Ah but if she just said “fed”, someone might think she was using formula. The horror!

MarthasGinYard · 01/03/2020 20:56

Grin oh I see

CodenameVillanelle · 01/03/2020 21:00

Boobing as a verb is so revolting I can't even...ugh

It's no shorter or quicker than 'feeding' it's just used by women who need to emphasise that they are breast not bottle feeding. Stop it.

Instatwat · 01/03/2020 21:01

When I’m feeding the baby, DH and I sing:

Ready? You will do this four times with the left
Four with the right, then eight times with both
Then repeat.
Baby boobin', baby boobin'
A1 boobs, and the boobs so soothing...

Beastie boys? No one? Ok then.

Not in civilised society though.

fairlyplump · 01/03/2020 21:02

oh dear, that is toe curlingly cringe !

sauvignonblancplz · 01/03/2020 21:04

I definitely prefer the term feed, or I would use nurse sometimes.
However this is very much a vernacular preference on my behalf instead of boob. My SIL also uses boob, “I whipped out the boob, I boobed her to sleep, she loved the boob.”
She loves to say boob!
@4cats2kids I really like this idea!!! Grin

PeapodBurgundy · 01/03/2020 21:04

Oh dear, the second thread this evening which has made me realise I'm irritating the shite out of people! I had no idea this was annoying/stomach turning! Confused

LaMarschallin · 01/03/2020 21:05

Instatwat

When I’m feeding the baby, DH and I sing:...

DH and I do a lot of stuff privately. As do lots of people.
It's cute/fun to us/them personally.

No one else is interested.
