Boobing

Argh!!
In my sleep deprived state I'm going to explode soon. Help!!
My DD is a year old and still breastfeeds a lot, including overnight. Has never taken bottle so it's always just me.

I have a friend who is in the same boat so we are in contact a fair amount, basically giving each other tips, reassurance etc.

But she ALWAYS refers to breastfeeding as "boobing". I dont mind the word boob, but its constant.

"He boobs to sleep then he wakes up so I boob him to sleep again. When we cosleep he boobs all night. I try to boob him less during the day but he just wants boob"

She is the loveliest person in the world, but honestly I'm going to scream.

AIBU?

By "use this word" I meant boob, not tit 😂

I don’t like “boobing” either. Breastfeeding seems just fine to me.

I’m not sure why it bothers me so much,

SquashedFlyBiscuit · 01/03/2020 20:15

Its awful. My youngest is 8 and it wasnt around then.

SachaStark · 01/03/2020 20:17

I think you need to go even more extreme, OP. My nephews were genuinely brought up calling breastfeeding “titty”, so I just don’t think it’s going to be impactful enough.

I vote for either going extreme slang and using “bazookas”, or entirely medically accurate and using “mammary glands”.

“I had to bazooka the baby to sleep for hours last night.”

“She needed some comfort so I mammary glanded her in the cafe.”

WickedlyPetite · 01/03/2020 20:19

Oh please do this GrinGrinGrin

Flutteringsatlast · 01/03/2020 20:20

My young dd's decided ds had 'boobie juice' when he was born!!

Mammatino · 01/03/2020 20:23

Shudder.

SignOnTheWindow · 01/03/2020 20:23

@SachaStark great suggestions. I was going to add 'fun-bagging', but on second thoughts, that sounds a bit... wrong.

Wifeofbikerviking · 01/03/2020 20:28

Boobs easier to say multiple times than breastfeed, breastfed, put to my breast etc.
I say boob, I dont see why it's so offensive

BrassicaBabe · 01/03/2020 20:31

I boob
You boob
He/she boobs

GrinLike being back in French class Grin

WhentheRabbitsWentWild · 01/03/2020 20:32

YANBU

Its a horrible word and gives a horrible image. Like some comedy tit rolling towards the poor child.

Sparklingbrook · 01/03/2020 20:33

There's nothing wrong with just replacing 'boobs' with 'feeds'. ie 'When we cosleep he feeds all night'.
The baby was upset so I fed him. That sounds more normal.

BaolFan · 01/03/2020 20:34

No, go with fun-bags.

I fun-bagged her to sleep last night. She woke up a few times and wanted the fun-bags. I try to fun-bag her less during the day but she just wants the fun-bags!

Ohtherewearethen · 01/03/2020 20:35

@Wifeofbikerviking - why can't you just say feed/fed?

Ponoka7 · 01/03/2020 20:37

"Boobs easier to say multiple times"

Than feed/fed?

Wifeofbikerviking · 01/03/2020 20:38

You can if you like. I'm happy with boob. It just sounds natural to me and is what my family and friends say too

Ponoka7 · 01/03/2020 20:38

Toybox88 · 01/03/2020 20:39

Me and my DH used to say this. Kind of for a joke. Only to each other. But I actually thought we'd invented the term until now 🙈

Sparklingbrook · 01/03/2020 20:39

I have thankfully never encountered anyone in RL who called it 'boobing' or even mentioned 'boob'.

MitziK · 01/03/2020 20:39

Oh, God. Almost as vomit inducing as bitty. Which I first heard in the wild circa 1992 and promptly disassociated myself from the proponents of the word as they claimed it was swearing to use the word breast

It's FEEDING. The child wants to FEED. The child wants to comfort FEED.

Wifeofbikerviking · 01/03/2020 20:40

Maybe it's like, people have all sorts of words for baps /bread rolls. If I was supposed to call them muffins or barm cakes because baps offended people it would not work naturally for me in conversation.

mcmooberry · 01/03/2020 20:40

I hate this too. I am on a FB group for mums in my profession and there is a lot of talk about "boobing to sleep" and such like, I actually feel like leaving the group so I don't have to read it but there is a mixture of useful clinical stuff in there too so I have held off but one more time might push me over the edge.

Wifeofbikerviking · 01/03/2020 20:42

Ye I probably wouldnt say comfort boob lol. I would definitly say feed then.
More like, "aw he just needs boob, pass him here"

LaMarschallin · 01/03/2020 20:42

I boob
You boob
He/she boobs

"Thou boobest"

Not sure why you have to say it multiple times. Doesn't "feeding" cover it? Does anybody else care what the mode of delivery is?

If you mean breastfeeding, it'll become obvious.
And why can't "breast" be used instead of "boob"?

"She/he wants breast... indulgently rolls eyes " as opposed to "She/he wants boob...".
Everyone knows it's the same thing.
Just sounds like an old-fashioned Carry-On film euphemism.

"Got to breast the bab". No better if you stick "boob" in there (as it were).

tillytoodles1 · 01/03/2020 20:43

If he wasn't "boobing" but bottle fed , would she say she bottled him during the night, or just fed him?
