Boobing

Argh!!
In my sleep deprived state I'm going to explode soon. Help!!
My DD is a year old and still breastfeeds a lot, including overnight. Has never taken bottle so it's always just me.

I have a friend who is in the same boat so we are in contact a fair amount, basically giving each other tips, reassurance etc.

But she ALWAYS refers to breastfeeding as "boobing". I dont mind the word boob, but its constant.

"He boobs to sleep then he wakes up so I boob him to sleep again. When we cosleep he boobs all night. I try to boob him less during the day but he just wants boob"

She is the loveliest person in the world, but honestly I'm going to scream.

AIBU?

Oh dear, the second thread this evening which has made me realise I'm irritating the shite out of people! I had no idea this was annoying/stomach turning! confused

Which was the first one?

And the good thing is that you don't need to be Confused any longer - you now know it's nauseating.

DowntonCrabby · 01/03/2020 21:09

YANBU it’s completely cringe. I’d give her the benefit of the doubt though as it sounds as though you both get a lot from the mutual support. Just stay true to your own linguistics when replying.

One of my best friends says “wee man” “the wee man” “my wee man” “our wee man” “your wee man” which in general makes me shudder/judge but I love her and put that above my rage at those phrases.

LolaSmiles · 01/03/2020 21:10

Nobody’s handing out medals for how you feed your baby, so stop with the performance boobing
Please can this be a new Mumsnet term Grin
That way we can have threads that go the same way as performance parenting.

OP: AIBU to think people should feed their baby how they like and not make a massive scene? Today in Costa we had our coffee to the sound of two women performance boobing, not only did they feed the need to talk loudly and at length about their impending boobing and the hunger levels of their boob monster, we were subjected to a running commentary to the baby about what a cute little booby monster he is, whether he's enjoying the booby juice, how he's eating last night's Sunday dinner. It felt like they wanted to make sure everyone knew they were breastfeeding. Couldn't they have simply fed their baby and stopped with the performance.

Most replies: YANBU. Breastfeed, combination feed or formula feed, do what you want for baby but just get on with it

Minority (evidently performance boobers): YABU. What sort of person judges a woman for the way she feeds her baby? No wonder breastfeeding rates are so low when there's so many people trying to shame women for using their boobs for their intended purpose. My ickle bubba loves having their booby cuddles when we are out. What should we do?? Shove a bottle in their mouth because it's convenient and doesn't offend people? As for saying it's a performance, get a grip! If you've got an issue with breastfeeding then that's your issue.

Most people: ummm... We haven't a problem with breastfeeding.

JudyCoolibar · 01/03/2020 21:11

I use it all the time. Breastfeeding sounds very Victorian to me.

So why not just use "feeding"?

PeapodBurgundy · 01/03/2020 21:11

@LaMarschallin the terms of endearment one. I think I'm going to crawl back under my rock now Grin

MarthasGinYard · 01/03/2020 21:15

Bloody hell, sounds like they are trying to out boob' each other. Confused

I think I'd have had to move, sounds nauseating.

LittleBearPad · 01/03/2020 21:15

Yep it’s toe curling.

Feed/fed is fine.

LaMarschallin · 01/03/2020 21:16

@LolaSmiles

Just: I love your work. Not just here, but the above was inspired.

@PeapodBurgundy

Thank you! Just about to scuttle off to search.

Hang on. Is this the "Lovely darling dear" thing? Going to check...

WingingIt101 · 01/03/2020 21:19

Totally unnecessary. I have a friend who insisted on the term booby milk and it made me cringe “oh little Timmy are you crying for some booby milk” “ohhh it’s booby milk o clock” or - and this was a favourite - a family photo at a restaurant of them all with their drinks captioned “Prosecco for parents and booby milk for babies!”

We all know where it comes from and I’m no prude about it but terms Like this do make me think of “bitty”!

LolaSmiles · 01/03/2020 21:22

LaMarschallin Smile I think I'm a little delirious from DC's habit of cluster feeding at the moment.
Dare I admit it the fictional Costa lady conversation is a caricature of some people I have met and a conversation I was awkwardly party to Blush

Sux2buthen · 01/03/2020 21:23

My son used to call it baBOOM. No idea why and then he changed it to bum.

KiwiUpATree · 01/03/2020 21:24

Meh, I said boobing and I really don’t get the pearl-clutching horror shrug

Instatwat · 01/03/2020 21:25

@LaMarschallin No one else is interested.

Jeez I was just contributing something I thought was mildly amusing to the thread, so sorry to offend you with my boring-as-shit story Hmm

Sparklingbrook · 01/03/2020 21:26

Nobody is 'pearl clutching' that would suggest they were shocked. Confused

nobodylikesacockwomble · 01/03/2020 21:28

I have a friend who used to call it ' eating from the boobie buffet' - made me cringe every time 🤢

caoraich · 01/03/2020 21:28

Ugh. I am lazy and "breastfeeding" is too long to repeatedly say but "boobing" is twee.

As PP mentioned - pick something your DC might yell at you in a cafe. I just use "drink" and "milk". Which I am thankful for as my 1 year old now cuddles up and says "milk?" to me which a) I understand (don't think she could pronounce "breastfeed") and b) isn't "BOOB!"

AddressLabel · 01/03/2020 21:29

Ha, I use boob and boobing a lot and I don't care if it annoys people. I don't say it to work colleagues or people I don't really know though, I reserve the use of breastfeeding for them. Everyone else gets boob. My son is 16 months old and has recently starting saying "Boo bob" whilst rifling his hand down my top. I'm unphased by things like this in public though so if he ever does shout boob or boobies in the supermarket queue whilst trying to grapple one out I don't think I'll care.
I don't know what “Famalam” and “Hollibobs” means though? Am I not doing this gross and twee thing properly?

Thisismytimetoshine · 01/03/2020 21:29

I think the point of the thread is that what you do in private isn’t anybody else’s business, Instatwat. Just keep it out of the public gaze.

Ooh!

I just assumed you'd met my SiL.

You can't miss her, she's revving up for the booby Olympics (as long as she keeps her amateur status until the next one*).

*Olympics or child.

sauvignonblancplz · 01/03/2020 21:30

@Instatwat
I found it interesting- what time exactly am
I singing it to? I enjoy a rhyme & don’t take life insanely seriously or feel the need to put other people down.

Thisismytimetoshine · 01/03/2020 21:32

You talk about boobing a lot and don’t care if it annoys people, AddressLabel? Confused. Why do you feel the need to bore people in this way?

S'okay...

S'fine, carry o.....

...zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

sauvignonblancplz · 01/03/2020 21:33

@AddressLabel

Just keep boobing!

I am more annoyed at myself by being annoyed at someone’s turn of phrase than the actual turn of phrase itself.
Think it says more about me than the other person.
So I’ll accept that .

puds11 · 01/03/2020 21:33

Bahaha I might start saying it Grin Boobing...bloody hilarious. Boobed to sleep just gives me an image of repeatedly hitting someone with a boob until you’ve knocked them out. I hope this isn’t what she’s doing!

Boobed. Tickled me it has. FWIT I say feed. Coz it’s food innit.

LaMarschallin · 01/03/2020 21:35

@Instatwat

Actually, PS

Sorry - I rarely make the mistake of taking people seriously but I did with you.

Please accept my apologies which are sincerely meant Flowers
