'Disturbing' film of child being involved in drag queen performance

Not sure of context but doesn't seem right to have a child being surrounded by adults cheering on a drag artist with arse handing out crawling on all fours towards a scared/overwhelmed looking child.

I think it speaks of a culture where parents are so afraid of not looking open minded that they don't consider the child's feelings.

Yanbu = yes it appears like bad parenting choices
Yabu = it's fine, I'd be happy if this was my child

Yes that's weird.

How have we got to a place where this seems remotely appropriate? If I was that little girl I'd have been embarrassed and scared at her age.

Putyourshoeson99 · 01/03/2020 09:13

Hard to tell without proper context. But if you’re looking for some homophobic, outrage just go back to Twitter and read some of the comments.

Iggypoppie · 01/03/2020 09:13

@gruciusmalloy I'd say it's the pornification of culture and concerted effort to erode parents' instincts with regard to child protection. It's a very disturbing development when we should be becoming more careful, not less.

tryingtoloseweightnow · 01/03/2020 09:14

That's fucking horrible

Iggypoppie · 01/03/2020 09:15

@Putyourshoeson99 Haha how can you construe anything to do with homophobia?

For a start I don't know if the performer is gay or straight. And if it was a straight male dancing it would come across as worse tbh.

Iggypoppie · 01/03/2020 09:16

@Putyourshoeson99 accusations of homophobia are exactly why woke parents have lost their minds

I think it might be Canada

Sushiroller · 01/03/2020 09:18

Who in God's name is voting yabu???

This is just not appropriate in any context.

TheVanguardSix · 01/03/2020 09:19

The little girl looks sooo bewildered, like, "All I wanted was to go to Shrek's Adventure. Where the fuck am I?"
That said, the drag queen does come across as kind and gentle as she approaches the child at the end. Even she must be thinking, "Take your kid to Shrek Adventure! WTF are doing, bringing a 6-year-old to this venue?" In fairness, the drag queen wasn't hired to make balloon animals and juggle jelly and blancmange. The parents are tools! This is an adults-only gig. I'm not sure why they thought this would be fun for their child.

Iggypoppie · 01/03/2020 09:20

@Sushiroller apparently if you disagree you are 'homophobic' Hmm

@TheVanguardSix I was exposed to situations as a child that felt uncomfortable and it made me not trust my parents. This is probably what will happen to this poor child.

MashedSpud · 01/03/2020 09:25

A child shouldn’t be in a situation where they are sitting on a stool with a half dressed adult crawling around/dancing around like it’s a lap dancing club.

Social services need to be involved.

‘accusations of homophobia are exactly why woke parents have lost their minds - ‘

That comment was in relation to the Twitter comments - go and have a look.

Context is everything.

WhentheRabbitsWentWild · 01/03/2020 09:36

No YANBU at all

I am old (born 65) and I look on in horror at all of this .

As for Homophobia . Go away and stop trying to shut down debate
As OP pointed out who knows if he was gay or straight anyway !!!!

TheVanguardSix · 01/03/2020 09:41

I can only imagine how this must have shaken up the very foundation of what should have been an innocent childhood. It is totally damaging, more than people understand. Fucking parents, man. So, so, so selfish.

GlitchStitch · 01/03/2020 09:42

Hard to tell without proper context.

What context could possibly make this acceptable?

koshkatt · 01/03/2020 09:44

Absoltely foul. I could weep.

Wallowinginfilth · 01/03/2020 09:45

I don't think you can tell whether or not yabu or ynabu without more context. The drag queen's clothes aren't that provocative and the girl looks confused not traumatised. From what I could see of the dance it wasn't 'a sexy dance' either.

If you're happy for your kid to watch shakira and jlo at the superbowl wearing a lot less and being a lot sexier, why is that? (Or even Adam Levine the year before).

Geoffreythecat · 01/03/2020 09:45

What's homophobic about finding a bloke in women's knickers advancing towards a little girl on his hands and knees bizarre?

Iggypoppie · 01/03/2020 09:47

@Geoffreythecat I think we've to pretend it's a woman
