'Disturbing' film of child being involved in drag queen performance

Not sure of context but doesn't seem right to have a child being surrounded by adults cheering on a drag artist with arse handing out crawling on all fours towards a scared/overwhelmed looking child.

I think it speaks of a culture where parents are so afraid of not looking open minded that they don't consider the child's feelings.

Yanbu = yes it appears like bad parenting choices
Yabu = it's fine, I'd be happy if this was my child

They are jean shorts with tights underneath, much like many teenager's wear.

Wallowinginfilth · 01/03/2020 09:51

Though admittedly cut a little higher.

Lordfrontpaw · 01/03/2020 09:52

With the length of those shorts I’m just grateful we didn’t see the front - but that poor kid did.

Iggypoppie · 01/03/2020 09:52

@wallowinginfilth

Would you be happy for your teenage son or daughter to dance for a child like this?

Grooming.

koshkatt · 01/03/2020 09:53

In plain sight. Cheered on by stupid parents.

AutumnRose1 · 01/03/2020 09:53

I posted about this on feminism

I think, I Hope, the video is fake. I see from the comments on this Tweet the Christina Somers is wondering the same thing.

GMAILFAIL · 01/03/2020 09:54

Why the fu k doesn't the PERFORMER stand up and say 'I'm not doing this. This is a child. This is NOT APPROPRIATE'

Deathgrip · 01/03/2020 09:55

I do not believe that children should be exposed to anything this sexualised. It’s very concerning.

I also do not agree with the horrific homophobia on that twitter thread. This is not about sexual orientation.

Iggypoppie · 01/03/2020 09:55

"Some parents are so opened minded their brains have fallen out".

Discuss.

And when the children start to copy this - gyrating and shimmying. Hmmmm. Not exactly doing the Hokey Cokey is it.

When I was a kid, of a small child started dancing like that at a school disco for example the teachers would flag it.

Oh god - anyone seen Little Miss Sunshine?

Enchiladas · 01/03/2020 09:55

That is a form of child abuse. Absolutely disgusting and the 'parent's ought to be arrested. Must be messed up in the head Angry

Iggypoppie · 01/03/2020 09:56

@AutumnRose1 I don't think it's fake as the drag queen has confirmed their involvement?

Canada or America? Where they have pageant shows and daddy daughter dates?

Nothing to see here...

koshkatt · 01/03/2020 09:58

FFS. Shameful. And those grinning fools all around her.

Iggypoppie · 01/03/2020 09:58

@lordfrontpaw Canada, Toronto

I’m hoping that they show the video to great aunt mary who is too old to be arsed to be polite/right on and tells them straight.

Lordfrontpaw · 01/03/2020 10:00

Oh Canada... I use to think that Canadians were laid back.

Ellmau · 01/03/2020 10:00

I think it would be equally inappropriate whether the performer was a drag queen or a woman.

Iggypoppie · 01/03/2020 10:00

@koshkatt yes it's the creepy bystander effect that adds to the horror

"Oh god - anyone seen Little Miss Sunshine?"

This also made be think of that.

Not sure what the message behind that film (if any) was supposed to be.

A piss take of beauty pageants?

But all I got from it was her GF taught her that dance & put her in those clothes??!!

FemiLANGul · 01/03/2020 10:00

Look, a 10 year old boy can dance for money on a nightclub stage at 3am and "we are the real paedophiles" for seeing anything dodgy in that.

This is small potatoes.

Wallowinginfilth · 01/03/2020 10:00

Iggypoppie
What I saw was crawling on the floor and a sashay. I think that would be fine.

The parents were stupid to take a child to an adult venue where the entertainment would not be child friendly.

But in fairness to the drag queen it seems that they adapted their act to be as child-friendly as they could.

This isn't like taking a kid to drag queen story hour in which the queens read to the children and it's very U-rated.

I don't see a need to demonise this drag queen because the parent are stupid enough to take the kid to an adult show.

Lordfrontpaw · 01/03/2020 10:01

He ended up dead on the roof rack didn’t he?

TheVanguardSix · 01/03/2020 10:04

Canada or America? Where they have pageant shows and daddy daughter dates?

It's soooo messed up. My nieces have been plastering on pancake make-up and red lipstick since they were six years old doing 'cheer'... it's just wrong on so many levels.
