'Disturbing' film of child being involved in drag queen performance

Not sure of context but doesn't seem right to have a child being surrounded by adults cheering on a drag artist with arse handing out crawling on all fours towards a scared/overwhelmed looking child.

I think it speaks of a culture where parents are so afraid of not looking open minded that they don't consider the child's feelings.

Yanbu = yes it appears like bad parenting choices
Yabu = it's fine, I'd be happy if this was my child

how the vast majority of criticism is directed at the labour party and not the Tories or the SNP.

Because we expect better from Labour! And we’re feeling absolutely betrayed that Lisa Nandy (who I was going to vote for for leader originally) said rapists should be able to self ID into women’s prisons.

You are using your own prejudices against the centre and right to explain away abusive, sexualising behaviour towards children. You need to have a word with yourself.

janemaster · 01/03/2020 10:45

@TheVanguardSix It is up to parents to decide if shows are suitable.
And of course parents should not lose custody of their child.

Binterested · 01/03/2020 10:45

Glad this is getting some sunshine on it. Shame that the Guardian won’t be covering the Flow Job scandal properly so most people still don’t know this is happening in UK schools with the support of some taxpayer funded lobby groups (LGBT Scotland in that case).

koshkatt · 01/03/2020 10:45

I am sure that objections will be classed as transphobia in a minute.

lisasimpsonssaxophone · 01/03/2020 10:47

I absolutely love drag and have no problem with taking a child to drag brunch or drag queen story time, but this made me deeply uncomfortable to be honest.

From what I gather, the family were at a drag brunch and the girl asked to get a better view of the performance. I’m not sure who then decided she should sit on a chair like that but it’s very inappropriate and I’m not surprised people are so outraged.

Wallowinginfilth · 01/03/2020 10:48

I didn't say homophobic. I said dog whistle. I wasn't sure of the drag queen's orientation, so I left it out. Transphobic I think.

koshkatt · 01/03/2020 10:49

Bingo! Grin

Wallowinginfilth · 01/03/2020 10:49

Like I say I agree with you that it's not appropriate. I just don't think it's a vast woke conspiracy to groom our children. I don't think that's a controversial thing to say.

Iggypoppie · 01/03/2020 10:49

@Wallowinginfilth

Transphobic dog whistle

Is this some kind of woke jargon bingo you're playing?

See my previous answer.

DuLANGMondeFOREVER · 01/03/2020 10:51

conspiracy now who sounds like a dog whistler?

Grin
nolongersurprised · 01/03/2020 10:51

@nolongersurprised but that is not comparable. This is an adult show, not a kid's activity. Of course what is okay at an adult show is different from a kid's activity.

But the clip shows an adult man with his arse exposed in a pair of tiny shorts performing for a child. Why is an “adult show” as you call it, being performed for a child?

How is it less inappropriate than my son’s football coach wearing similar shorts?

McCanne · 01/03/2020 10:53

You’re absolutely right @Thelnebriati.

Where did and do people think mixing adult drag performers with children was and is going? This is where saying ‘just a guy in a dress reading a story’ with big innocent eyes gets us. Continually looking at everything from the perspective of an adult’s ‘rights’ and bleating diversity instead of the appropriateness for children is a big problem. Drag is not children’s entertainment.

Wallowinginfilth · 01/03/2020 10:53

Ok, you want to hang around in an echo chamber, like a bunch of flat earthers that's up to you.

Iggypoppie · 01/03/2020 10:54

@Wallowinginfilth

I agree that it's not a vast woke conspiracy to groom our children as in fact grooming has really been around forever. It's not new.

nolongersurprised · 01/03/2020 10:54

Bingo! grin

Have we had right wing and conservative yet?

ClArabelle67 · 01/03/2020 10:56

My god, has anyone reported this? That’s child abuse.

AutumnRose1 · 01/03/2020 10:56

wallowing there’s another aspect to this which you might appreciate more

Child free adults like me are sick to death of every bloody event having to be inclusive of children. Adult entertainment was about the only thing left!

SarahTancredi · 01/03/2020 10:57

I just don't think it's a vast woke conspiracy to groom our children. I don't think that's a controversial thing to say

You are right. Muddying the boundaries of what's acceptable and what's not, teaching kids that dancing provocatively wearing arse exposing clothing and that women are hyper sexualised parodies is all perfectly healthy message Hmm

I mean their teachers and sports coaches and key workers all do the same right?

Not grooming ? where have u been?

McCanne · 01/03/2020 10:58

@TheVanguardSix ‘it’s like the child became the target audience’. I agree. It looks exactly like a hen put on a chair in front of a stripper. It beggars belief that not one single adult looked like they grasped that this was inappropriate.

@Wallowinginfilth

Fair enough as I don't think we're making much headway.

What I would agree on is that the performer is not the only person at fault, and I don't believe the act is premeditated.

What I would say is that there is a cultural collective erosion of boundaries going on and we shouldn't be accused of homophobia if we address it.

Iggypoppie · 01/03/2020 11:01

@AutumnRose1 I agree it's clearly a boozy brunch with adult entertainment, which is fun for adults but having a child there just changes the dynamic (for the worse).

“ It beggars belief that not one single adult looked like they grasped that this was inappropriate.”

Another reason I think it’s fake. And no other kids in the room.
