'Disturbing' film of child being involved in drag queen performance

Not sure of context but doesn't seem right to have a child being surrounded by adults cheering on a drag artist with arse handing out crawling on all fours towards a scared/overwhelmed looking child.

I think it speaks of a culture where parents are so afraid of not looking open minded that they don't consider the child's feelings.

Yanbu = yes it appears like bad parenting choices
Yabu = it's fine, I'd be happy if this was my child

Whenever I read ‘dog whistle’ I immediately assume the writer has no critical thinking skills whatsoever.

Nanny0gg · 01/03/2020 10:32

So very true. See also Drag Queen Story Times...

Yep. The one in the Scottish school hasn't gone so well with some parents.

janemaster · 01/03/2020 10:32

I too think we need context.
But generally parents should not take kids to adult shows. And performers should not have to change a performance because kids are brought inappropriately.

SarahTancredi · 01/03/2020 10:32

object and your homophobic! How anyone can justify this is beyond me

This is why there was do much anger when the LGB alliance set up.

Without the cover and protection to hide behind things become much clearer.

nolongersurprised · 01/03/2020 10:33

The drag queen's clothes aren't that provocative

Sure, my child’s teacher, school nurse, sport’s coach and music teacher always wear shorts cut so their arse is hanging out.

cdtaylornats · 01/03/2020 10:34

www.telegraph.co.uk/politics/2020/02/24/snp-mp-defends-primary-school-visit-sexually-explicit-drag-act/

Meanwhile in Scotland SNP Mp and transvestite Flowjob visit a primary school.

It's shocking they let politicians into schools.

Iggypoppie · 01/03/2020 10:34

@Wallowinginfilth

  1. You are being homophobic by suggesting the dancer is a gay Male when in fact they are transgender female...

  2. I would hope that some left leaning media would cover it but they have not done to as yet. Thankfully I have my own mind and don't need you to police my media outlets.

  3. Your posts are dog whistle disturbing because they seek to silence safe guarding of children. Who would that benefit pray tell?

I just wonder why the drag queen didn't take a stand, actually. And why did the proprietor of the venue green light letting a child in? Confused I know I keep saying it;s on the parents... but actually, who (besides the parents) let that child through the door of this place and felt ok with that decision? The drag queen should have asked the child to go outside with a parent... or go home entirely!

DuLANGMondeFOREVER · 01/03/2020 10:36

The event is billed as ‘family friendly’

www.thestar.com/life/2019/10/11/drag-brunch-is-fun-for-the-whole-family.html

Quote from the article

“ That’s the best part of drag brunch is that children can come. Families can come, because they’re generally up early. I find drag brunch to be more open to everyone. Hetero couples generally wouldn’t be going to a gay bar where typically drag is going to be. Drag brunch doesn’t have this ‘it’s only for gays,’ it’s for everyone. I love the inclusion aspect of drag brunch that everyone can come. Drag is so fun and I love performing, so why not perform for everyone?” says Miss Moco.

Wallowinginfilth · 01/03/2020 10:36

It's not bankrupt or manipulative. It's my opinion. I look at the trans threads every now and again. Even agree with some points.

I also feel incredibly uncomfortable with some of the things that people say on there. The way that dissenters are shouted down. The way that right wingers are lauded for their apparent ability to 'speak truth' and how the vast majority of criticism is directed at the labour party and not the Tories or the SNP.

cavabiensepasser · 01/03/2020 10:36

Parents should lose custody of that child. Fucking sick fucks. This is abuse.

janemaster · 01/03/2020 10:37

@nolongersurprised but that is not comparable. This is an adult show, not a kid's activity. Of course what is okay at an adult show is different from a kid's activity.

TheVanguardSix · 01/03/2020 10:38

It's like the child became the target audience.
Ugh. This is depressing. WTF is wrong with society? We seem to think that having a moral compass is discriminatory now.

Connie222 · 01/03/2020 10:38

Jesus fucking Christ.
There’s no way on this earth that I would subject my child to that.
Fucking abysmal parenting.

Wallowinginfilth · 01/03/2020 10:38

Iggypoppie I didn't suggest the performer was gay.

nolongersurprised · 01/03/2020 10:39

My six year old son has just had an external group that works with children have been sexually abused come to the school. Their information is very clear and there’s a focus on if it makes you feel yucky it’s not ok and nothing is too yucky that you can’t tell an adult.

He would be grossed out by a semi-exposed pair of adult buttocks crawling towards him, even if he couldn’t articulate why, exactly. Who does he “run and tell” if the adults he trusts are laughing and hopping along to the show?

It’s grooming.

FoamingAtTheUterus · 01/03/2020 10:39

I've seen worse from the Pussycat dolls tbh.

Apparently the kid asked to go to the front, doesn't necessarily mean they should have done the whole chair thing tho.

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 01/03/2020 10:40

I know I keep saying this every time this topic comes up, but this isn't for the kids at all. It's for the adults. Look at how proud of herself the mum is, bopping away on the side and looking around all "can everyone see how bloody hip and progressive I look right now? go me!"

The kid otoh has no idea wtf is going on and would probably have preferred an event that didn't involve an adult man shaking his arse at her and crawling seductively towards her on the floor. But who cares what she wants as long as the parents look woke, eh?

nolongersurprised · 01/03/2020 10:40

*bopping, not hopping!

Iggypoppie · 01/03/2020 10:40

@Wallowinginfilth

It seems like you are mixing a whole load of issues together and I don't really follow.

OP posts:
koshkatt · 01/03/2020 10:40

'transgender female' is strange language manipuation isn't it? Almost designed to confuse the fact that he is male.

janemaster · 01/03/2020 10:41

@DuLANGMondeFOREVER Isn't that a different show to the one in the OP? So we have no idea of what that is like.
I don't like drag, I think it is misogynistic, but I don't agree that any drag show is automatically only suitable for adults.

Thelnebriati · 01/03/2020 10:42

Grooming makes it socially acceptable for adults to participate in risky and sexually charged behaviours involving children, or to turn a blind eye to them;
Grooming also makes it socially unacceptable to challenge participants or to uphold safeguarding.

Non-contact abuse involves activities where there is no physical contact. Non-contact abuse includes exposing children to sexual activity.
learning.nspcc.org.uk/child-abuse-and-neglect/child-sexual-abuse/

If all you can see is homophobia, its because you are missing the grooming.

Iggypoppie · 01/03/2020 10:42

@Wallowinginfilth

Well how can it be dog whistle homophobic if the person is not gay?
