There is not one person I know in real life that is prepping for a coronavirus outbreak. In fact, no one I speak to even mentions the threat of the virus.

Of course we know of it as the hysteria surrounding it is all over the news / social media, but aibu to think preppers only exist on mumsnet?

Bought an emergency bottle of gin. Must get some drain cleaner to. And bought the big sack of pancake mix as recommended on the prepping thread.

Onceuponatimethen · 29/02/2020 23:07

I have the following for morale purposes:

Gin, tonic, lemon
Massive multi pack of crisps
2 jars of Nutella
Wine

Toomanygerbils · 01/03/2020 03:18

I never 10 packs of super noodles, will trade for your first born...

Toomanygerbils · 01/03/2020 03:21

Have not never, also need a better phone with autocomplete

Toomanygerbils · 01/03/2020 03:25

Ok first born seems a no.. second born up for negotiation though, third born free but not accepted sadly :(

Neome · 08/03/2020 10:47

It seems quite a few people are stocking up now

TheCountessatHotelCortez · 08/03/2020 10:51

It is getting out of hand! Even in my small area of Scotland people are emptying the shelves of toilet rolls, paracetamol, carpol, soap and hand gel even in my job as a HCP we are struggling to get hand gel! The toilet roll baffles me though? It doesn’t give you the shits? Probably the same people buying that that don’t wash their hands after using the toilet! You wouldn’t believe the amount of people I still see not washing their hands 🤮

ooooohbetty · 08/03/2020 16:46

Went to my local very large supermarket today. Still lots of everything left.

speakout · 08/03/2020 18:17

I have bought several packs of Corona Beer today- to help us struggle through if we do end up eating plain pasta and loo roll.

AllPointsNorth · 08/03/2020 18:30

The other advantage to having full cupboards and freezers is that as a supply teacher, if the schools shut, I don’t get paid.
But we’ll still eat well.

sleepingpup · 08/03/2020 21:12

well this thread has gone out of date quickly😂

OP do you know anybody buying loo roll?

ElderAve · 08/03/2020 22:37

Quite Sleeping. DS1 (19yo) who laughed at me 10 days ago when I bought a few extra tins, some hand soap and ONE pack of toilet rolls, just in case, came in from work genuinely concerned to find out if we have plenty of loo roll tonight. I was prepared, this is panic.

DH has been and stocked up on wine today. He has a boozy fortnight with Netlix planned.

ByeMF · 08/03/2020 22:58

I hope none of the people who criticised the preppers were out panic buying this weekend.

Notlong20 · 11/03/2020 22:16

Well, it seems I am indeed surrounded by preppers. Not one roll of toilet paper in Asda this morning. And it’s a good job pasta wasn’t on my list!

OP posts:
AllPointsNorth · 12/03/2020 08:16

So what you’re saying is you wish you’d thought about this a few weeks ago and prepped?
Because now the unprepared, panic-buying, have emptied the shelves of what you want to buy. Imagine how much less stressful life in general is if you plan ahead rather than reacting to events.

BiddyPop · 12/03/2020 08:32

Gin
I knew I forgot something...

BiddyPop · 12/03/2020 08:33

Would happily trade my first (only) born for it today....and yes, I am only on the train commuting into work yet...

sleepingpup · 12/03/2020 08:38

oh give it a rest Biddy. Your halo might strangle you.

WhatKatyDidNot · 12/03/2020 08:41

Notlong20 - any revisions to your OP you'd like to make?! Grin

I have a large number of packs of Lidl antibacterial wipes which, for some reason, the DH loves to buy even when we don't need them. I feel like they could be currency.

sleepingpup · 12/03/2020 08:46

sorry Biddy not you at all! Apologies!🍸💐

That should of read All Points North😉

IrisAnon · 12/03/2020 08:58

Logged in to do my Ocado shop last night and it would appear a lot of people are stockpiling. It did make me panic, if I’m honest.
I had to take a delivery slot near midnight this weekend or wait until next Thursday! It would also appear that a lot of home baking will be going on - absolutely no yeast left or ‘normal’ bread mix.

A cursory look around at store cupboard items indicates the UK will be surviving on frozen chicken, tinned carrots and spam sandwiches Hmm

AllPointsNorth · 12/03/2020 09:12

My halo is above my head, not around my neck.
Do you think that people have grasped the difference between prepping and panic-buying yet?
Or are they going to continue taking the piss, whilst simultaneously complaining about not being able to buy pasta?
