To detest the saying "I'd have ripped them a new one"

MarthasGinYard · 26/02/2020 19:22

When talking in anger or annoyance about someone.

I saw today, the horrific saying in full...."I'd have ripped them a new arse hole"

I find this an extremely grim expression.

Anyone else hate this one? or should I hoik up my Hyacinth Bucket twinset and try to be more accepting of this unsavoury phrase?

formerbabe · 26/02/2020 19:24

It's repulsive

MarthasGinYard · 26/02/2020 19:26

It is isn't it?

Infact I'm wondering if it's a regional thing as I've never heard it in RL only ever on here🤔

OP posts:
Doodlesquah1 · 26/02/2020 19:28

I hate it too urgh

Lordfrontpaw · 26/02/2020 19:28

I have threatened to rip people’s heads off...

Saucery · 26/02/2020 19:29

Isn’t it an American saying originally?

MarthasGinYard · 26/02/2020 19:29

Lord

That is certainly acceptable

OP posts:
MsTSwift · 26/02/2020 19:30

Just awful. I would go so far as to say I wouldn’t want anything to do with anyone that said it. Fortunately I have never heard this said in real life

Growingboys · 26/02/2020 19:30

I hate it. So aggressive and violent.

youknowitmakessensedunnit · 26/02/2020 19:31

I far prefer "I ripped their heads off and shit down their throats"

bumblenbean · 26/02/2020 19:31

I’ve always hated this too. Totally grim and I’m not usually prudish!

datasgingercatspot · 26/02/2020 19:32

Isn’t it an American saying originally?

Why is this the belief on MN for anything deemed negative? Hmm

bumblenbean · 26/02/2020 19:32

Closely followed by ‘balls deep’ (shudder)

FrogsFrogs · 26/02/2020 19:32

Yes I don't like it, it's utterly grim

I think it came from USA as well they seem to be fixated on arseholes. I remember watching a film years ago first time I heard the phrase 'blowing smoke up his ass' was like, what? Still not quite sure what it means Grin

And yes not all Americans but there does seem to be a bit of a theme!

Taswama · 26/02/2020 19:33

I hate it too but I hate all aggressive language including swearing.

FrogsFrogs · 26/02/2020 19:34

Balls deep is gross as well

So many referencing male perpetrated sexual violence/ domination.

Looking at this type of language is really interesting from a sort of social/ feminist pov but I won't start it on AIBU Grin

Silvercatowner · 26/02/2020 19:35

I agree, OP. And I ripped their heads off and shit down their throats is on a par.

Sarcelle · 26/02/2020 19:36

I have only heard this gross saying on here.

Lordfrontpaw · 26/02/2020 19:36

I never threaten to do anything to people’s throats..

Saucery · 26/02/2020 19:36

What are you on about, datas?
Someone asked it if it was regional so I said I thought the region was USA.
Massive leap to assuming I said it was American because it is negative. Are you normally a sensitive little fleur about etymology or are you just that way out this evening? Hmm
I believe I first read it/heard it somewhere originating from the USA. If that’s ok with you?

HollowTalk · 26/02/2020 19:37

I always thought "ripped them a new one" referred to anal rape. Really disgusting.

Paintforkitchen · 26/02/2020 19:37

Me too, I cringe when I read it, it really sets my teeth on edge. A truly vile phrase.

youwereagoodcakeclyde · 26/02/2020 19:38

Yes, it’s horrible

TheMemoryLingers · 26/02/2020 19:40

YANBU

LynetteScavo · 26/02/2020 19:41

I've only every heard it on MN.

I don't mix with people in RL who would use this phrase (when talking to me, anyway) and I mix with lots of different types.

CallMeOnMyCell · 26/02/2020 19:41

I agree it’s horrible. My old manager used to say it all the time and it made me cringe!
