To detest the saying "I'd have ripped them a new one"

MarthasGinYard · 26/02/2020 19:22

When talking in anger or annoyance about someone.

I saw today, the horrific saying in full...."I'd have ripped them a new arse hole"

I find this an extremely grim expression.

Anyone else hate this one? or should I hoik up my Hyacinth Bucket twinset and try to be more accepting of this unsavoury phrase?

'I would sit her down and rip her a new arsehole.'

I saw this on a thread this morning

I can’t imagine anyone ever saying it. Sounds terribly common.

FrogsFrogs · 26/02/2020 20:09

It does refer to anal rape

FrogsFrogs · 26/02/2020 20:10

How you do that when you have sat someone down though, is logistically tricky!

PolaDeVeboise · 26/02/2020 20:11

I hate it and really don't understand what it ACTUALLY means. How would you do that? I get (although think just as vile) the ripping head and shitting down throat because that's POSSIBLE (sort of), but how/what purpose would it serve, if someone had two arseholes. I also find it's said by people who would like you to think their hard, but their just sad.

ChicChicChicChiclana · 26/02/2020 20:13

Yanbu.

I hate "bum licker" "arse licker" "tongue so far up her arse" - all that too. I

MarthasGinYard · 26/02/2020 20:15

I'm glad I'm not on my own.

See it so much on here though

Who actually says this?

I think it came from USA as well they seem to be fixated on arseholes. I remember watching a film years ago first time I heard the phrase 'blowing smoke up his ass' was like, what? Still not quite sure what it means grin

Don't know if it's related, but they used to believe that if someone had drowned, blowing smoke up their arse would revive them.

MarthasGinYard · 26/02/2020 20:17

I kind of wanted someone to say

'I say that all the time'

I've questions for them

OP posts:
StealthPolarBear · 26/02/2020 20:17

Yes i hate violent posturing talk.
I also hate 'give your head a wobble', clearly it's not on the same scale but it's just so unpleasant.

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 26/02/2020 20:18

Here you go, complete with a very interesting artist's impression Grin

porple · 26/02/2020 20:19

its grim

FrogsFrogs · 26/02/2020 20:19

'Don't know if it's related, but they used to believe that if someone had drowned, blowing smoke up their arse would revive them.'

Who believed that, when?

Blimey

It's always about stuffing things into holes, seemingly!

Butteredtoast55 · 26/02/2020 20:25

I really dislike violently aggressive insults, especially ones that reference sexual violence. In fact, I dislike swearing and obscenities in general and I find there's a lot of it on MN. I'm starting to think I might be Mary Whitehouse reincarnated!

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 26/02/2020 20:27

Frogs apparently the anus is connected to the lungs because Science, and smoke helps to... Nope, I did read the article but couldn't quite follow the reasoning.

midwestspring · 26/02/2020 20:27

YANBU, it is horrible.

Karwomannghia · 26/02/2020 20:28

I first heard it when my friend’s dh said it recounting some rant about driving or something. I can remember thinking what does that actually mean? Has he made that up? It makes no sense!
Have since heard it again and realised it’s a thing. A horrible one but becoming more commonplace it seems.

Saucery · 26/02/2020 20:30

Nicotine absorbed easily through membranes in rectum?

I agree. I’ve always thought it was a really horrible phrase.

Not funny and extremely violent.

I also hate it went posters use the phrase “rapey” as in “That sounds a bit rapey”. It is a weird use of language and sounds to me like a trivialisation of rape - although I’m sure that isn’t what people intend at all.

Maduixa · 26/02/2020 20:35

Pretty sure it IS American, and I don't mean that in an insulting way. I used to live in the States and people would say this - oddly, I think I only ever hear it at work. Of course, they didn't actually say "arsehole" (or I guess that would have been "asshole"). They'd say, e.g., "My boss is going to rip me a new one if I don't finish this document today." But everyone knew what it meant.

I never heard it used as a threat - mostly someone describing a reprimand they had witnessed, or predicting they or someone else would be in trouble. No idea of the origins - just means something that is going to hurt and be inconvenient for a very long time and you won't forget quickly. I don't think I've ever heard it said by or about a woman, but my experience is limited Grin. I don't think I've ever heard it in the UK.

JesusInTheCabbageVan already covered "blowing smoke up one's ass" ... I'll just add the more polite versions substitute bottom or backside, and the really polite, good-china-Sunday-best version is "blowing smoke up one's skirt" - can be woman or man.
