@Mittens030869

Thanks for this. Just realised the viral and antibiotic scenario! Well, let's hope they get a vaccine soon. Im normally quite OK with things like this, but admit I'm starting to get a bit tetchy. 🙄

fearnotsnot · 26/02/2020 21:08

Checking in.

Really not filled with confidence by the Gov so far. NHS is a shit show of miscommunication as usual. As pp said it all really needs to be dragged into a consistent clear strategy ASAP.

I’ve had that weird virus that people are talking about. Fever, headache, dry cough and the worst sore throat I’ve ever had, it felt like someone was gripping my neck and choking me. Still coughing a week later although the sore throat has eased. No idea if it’s coronavirus, but I’m way up north and haven’t been in contact with anyone who’s at risk. I don’t think sore throat is a common symptom of coronavirus so probably just a bug that’s going around.

runninguphills · 26/02/2020 21:15

I love the fact there are 2 completely different conversations going on in this thread. One is a worrying virus circling the world. The other is the best way to grow garlic. Grin

Vettyvetvet · 26/02/2020 21:16

It has provided me with some light relief reaching the last page of this thread where chat about the virus is interspersed with a separate conversation regarding the best way to grow garlic cloves. Just funny the way it reads Grin

An interesting thread!

Kettle, I'm sure it's been out there for weeks.... We will get sudden huge clusters like Italy.

Gemm83 · 26/02/2020 21:19

@LarkDescending

Thankyou, sounds promising 🤞

Snowdropdelight · 26/02/2020 21:21

Vetty, it's what I adore about mumsnet. And without humour we have nothing...

Humour and laughter also help keep mental health afloat, keep immune systems up...

sore throat is a very common symptom. It isn't listed for some reason as a key symptom in this country but lots of other countries name it in their list of things to watch out for. In addition you need to look for general tiredness and muscle ache - also very common symptoms

Ciwirocks · 26/02/2020 21:22

My grandad used to swear that eating garlic kept you healthy and stopped you getting bugs so it’s relevant too! Ha ha

runninguphills · 26/02/2020 21:23

I listened into John Campbells video today where he reviewed a new study from Mathematical modelling of the virus with more complete data. Transmission rate (R0) is speculated at 4.7-6.7.

I think the median contact to display of symptoms was 4.2 days (range 3.5 - 5.1 days). Add on 24-48 for swab results.

With this in mind, I'd expect to see positive results for Covid-19 in the UK at the weekend or by early next week at the latest.

Snowdropdelight · 26/02/2020 21:26

People saying garlic splits? You mean I take a garlic clove, stick it in soil outside and once the frost splits it, it will grow?

I really surprised at the no of people on this thread talking about pretty classic covid symptoms?

Cough, soft throat and temp?.
I'd be straight onto 111.

LarkDescending · 26/02/2020 21:32

Italy’s numbers are soaring.

So far it has 145 new cases today, for a total of 468.

Plantherd · 26/02/2020 21:33

Does anyone know if the own brand supermarket anti bacterial hand soap that says kills 99.9% of bacteria will be efficient for cleaning off viruses when washing hands? Or do i specifically need dettol hand soap in bathroom kitchen etc. Getting confused. Confused

KettleOn919 · 26/02/2020 21:34

But if you haven't travelled, doctors currently won't even consider the possibility that unusual symptoms might be related to coronavirus. It's a worry, because I have a very elderly parent and a sister with a heart problem and if there is even the smaller possibility that I've had this thing then I don't want to be anywhere near them for a long, long time.

FredaFrogspawn · 26/02/2020 21:34

I don’t think you need special soap - just soo and hot water.

poshme · 26/02/2020 21:36

I have also had the -killer sore throat followed by a cough that don't go away- bug. I couldn't written @killeron919 post word for word except I'm not London based.

Hoping I get rid of it before corona arrives. I'm so tired of coughing.

poshme · 26/02/2020 21:37

Sorry that should've been @kettleon919

poshme · 26/02/2020 21:38

I had to call 111 in the last few days. They took 2 days to call back & tell me not to self isolate.

I know they're busy but...

Snowdropdelight · 26/02/2020 21:38

How on earth can you be sure it's not not corona?

PotholeParadise · 26/02/2020 21:39

Plantherd

www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0195670120300463#

speculation here on how to kill it.

IceWings · 26/02/2020 21:40

sore throat is a very common symptom
The news said only about 5% of patients had a sore throat so I assumed if I had one it probably wasn’t coronavirus.

LarkDescending · 26/02/2020 21:41

I also (in London) had an awful seasonal bug from December until this week - splitting headaches, fatigue, terrible sore throat and a never-ending deep cough that hurt a lot, especially at night. There’s been lots of it about.

Snowdropdelight · 26/02/2020 21:42

I wish I could just be allowed to stay at home now with my dc.

Dh works in a small team of 7, no travelling, in countryside. Drives to work. He can keep working.
Myself and the dc are daily in exposed environments with hundreds around us.
Imagine if everyone could like me stay at home, look after dc.

Surely that would ease pressure on those who can't stop working? Us keeping safe would ease pressure on those out there who fall ill?
