I suspected that

About airport screening - Italy has been doing it and obviously they have a lot of cases. There's really little evidence that it helps and it may even give a false sense of security.

ofwarren · 27/02/2020 11:43

Italy confirms 75 new cases of coronavirus and 2 new deaths; total of 528 cases and 14 deaths t.co/eUoE2bjB9j

anywinewilldonow · 27/02/2020 11:43

I noticed that the story about that one province in China's figures being wrong disappeared yesterday. Anyone hear any more about that?

comfypantsisme · 27/02/2020 11:48

I think give it a couple of weeks or so, cv19 will be much more widespread....... The governments handling of info given out, different advice from 111 etc means theres bound to be many more actual cases out there than officially recognised. But as its cold/ flu season, people assume its just that? It just seems a lot of chaos and confusion!

Thats why people are worried. We need the agencies involved to all be singing from the same hymsheet so to speak and maybe give the public facts. Adverts on tv etc on handwashing etc would be a good start!

ofwarren · 27/02/2020 11:48

Italy
There are 528 positives, 474 under surveillance, 278 in home isolation, 159 hospitalized with symptoms and 37 in intensive care.

Spain confirms a new case of coronavirus in Barcelona; 3rd in Catalonia t.co/eUoE2b20hL

Skyejuly · 27/02/2020 11:55

I've also had a major cold sore eruption which is agony. Sore throat/bad stomach etc Confused

Keynote1 · 27/02/2020 11:58

Really don't want to over react but supposed to be spending the weekend with friends who have returned from an affected country but not an affected part of that country, should we be at all concerned?

Kat2345 · 27/02/2020 11:58

This thread must be a joke. people updating about a case in Spain or another case in Iran. It is just spreading panic. People need to get a grip and stop over reacting to this. We have had these sort of things before. We haven't even had any human to human transmission in the UK.Think it is the case that people like causing others to panic

FourTeaFallOut · 27/02/2020 12:01

Go and get attention somewhere else Kat.

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 27/02/2020 12:02

@Kat2345 you've made your point! If you're not happy with the thread, just don't open it. I'm certainly not panicking but I'm interested in the developments and finding this thread very informative.

I'm immunocompromised, @Kat2345 . I'm concerned not panicking. Those are two different things. I'm a general prepper so panicking isn't my thing. Doesn't stop me being concerned.
Sneery comments confusing concern with panic are not helpful. I suggest you reflect on that.

anywinewilldonow · 27/02/2020 12:02

Kat we are on this thread as we appreciate being kept up to date with what is going on. You don't have to be...

Also regarding airport screening perhaps it might pick up a few cases but remember in most of Europe you can easily drive across the border, or get a train, with pretty much zero screening of any kind. Being an island it is at least a little more difficult to or to get in and out of the UK. People don't typically cross the border every day to work for example, like many do on the continent.

buttermilkwaffles · 27/02/2020 12:08

I also don't see the need for each new case to be posted about, in any event, this information is available on the live news feeds (Guardian) etc or by following the BNO news Twitter feed. If, as seems likely, the number of cases outside China continues to increase, eventually you will end up with almost non stop posts and any other posts will just get lost. Surely, a daily summary or twice or thrice daily summary would be more practical? Being caught up in every little detail is surely less important than seeing the wider/overall picture?

LarkDescending · 27/02/2020 12:11

Worldometers says that at least 31/50 new cases diagnosed in Europe (other than Italy) in the last 4 days had a history of travel to Northern Italy. Milan features particularly strongly in the travel histories.

I don't think we need to police what people post. I live in the area that seems to be having an outbreak, and it's been much more informative than local or national news.

Snowdropdelight · 27/02/2020 12:15

Buttermilk this thread is my access to information thanks!

I have don't follow others papers and they are slow compared to of Warren.
This after all just people chatting on line rather than an organised thing.... People take it too seriously!

The detail of who is affected at this stage, where they were infected and what their age is, is revelant at this point.

It won't be true as this progresses.

You might not see the importance of this, but I do.

As for a daily update / summary... Who does that? Who is in charge? Who compiles this?

That's what a newspaper does (or more to the point should be doing).

This is a forum where there isn't a designated individual to do certain jobs.

Personally when I find a story with detail it's easier just to post it then and there. Especially if it's a foreign language one.

I don't want to be behind the story and wait.

I live in an instant social media world.

You might be slightly more old skool but that's no reason to tell everyone they are 'doing it wrong' and you don't get why they are doing it in a way you disagree with.
