I am finding all the regular updates very helpful. Thank you to everyone for taking the time do them. Updates enable all who want to read them to stay informed and I regard that as a positive.

MyFavouriteColourIsBlue · 27/02/2020 12:18

I find all of the updates really useful

CocoaLipbalm · 27/02/2020 12:18

@kat2345 nobody here is interested in whether you do or don’t agree with the way this thread is running.

What they are interested in is the increasingly troublesome news about a disease that is likely to cause significant issues for either them, or their family.

Being forewarned, informed and prepared is sensible, not stupid.

bellinisurge · 27/02/2020 12:18

@RunningAwaywiththeCircus , I have MS so I always get the flu jab. Dd has flu in November and I usually get everything she gets. Bounced off me.
As you say, a flu jab doesn't guard against this but I'm happy that it's one less thing for my immunocompromised body to deal with.

user1471448556 · 27/02/2020 12:19

Also find the updates very useful. Suggest those who don't stay away from this thread.

ofwarren · 27/02/2020 12:19

It will get to a point when all the updates are UK cases and then probably just become a round up as there will be far too many to report.
We will adapt and change as this thing progresses.
For now, most people are wanting the news as it breaks.

LarkDescending · 27/02/2020 12:21

I must say I don’t know why people feel the need to pop up 5 threads in and appoint themselves thread police. These threads have been good-natured, informative and for the most part sensible and measured. Certainly not shrill or “hysterical” (hate that word). Peace and love Smile

I can understand that seeing posts about every single case of Coronavirus, sometimes discussed in more detail, might make some people more anxious- they’re also useful. I really hope the more anxious amongst us are not looking at these boards 24/7. However I don’t actually see much overreacting and if anyone were I hope they would be reassured as much as possible.

Personally, I’m immunocompromised, I’m also in the older age category. I’m also reasonably aware of what is going on and don’t think that I’m any different to anyone else in terms of risk, how much it could impact me etc. I am, interestingly, in a PI regime but not Kaletra.

I’m currently on a train to London. I’ve just seen the posts about Buxton and saw Doncaster also mentioned...have just spent a chuffing cold 25 mins pacing the platform at Doncaster! I have hand sanitiser with me and will take all suggested precautions. At home I have paracetamol and have also been stocking up gradually on basics over the past month.

That’s it really...interested in the garlic threads though. I also use shop bought new potatoes to make more sometimes 😀

I’ve recently returned from Tenerife. Should have flown out Sunday but we were stuck at the airport from 12pm till 2am due to sandstorm. Flight was rescheduled for the Monday.

Do we know any further details about the case from Buxton (contracted in Tenerife) I would particularly like to know what flight he was on.

I don’t have flu symptoms but feel very tired and lethargic. In fairness it’s highly likely to just be from the delayed, long travelling. But the more information the better as far as I’m concerned. If the Buxton case was on my flight I feel like I should be given this information so that I can make a more informed decision.

LarkDescending · 27/02/2020 12:28

PHE may well trace those on relevant flights for advice. That’s what happened with the Brighton case(s) who had flown in on an Easyjet flight from Geneva.

Chives.

Chives are really really easy to grow. Like shade and sogginess too.

Cheap seeds as well.

IveGotBillsTheyreMultiplying · 27/02/2020 12:31

I think some people's reaction to crisis is a bit like a bereavement sequence.
Shock,denial anger...etc

Especially in naturally laid back people who always assume things will be fine. The situation is upsetting their world view and it feels bad to think or talk about it.

For natural born worriers, horizon-scanners we always prepare for things going wrong, it's less of a shift to start accepting the fact that there is an unknown threat.

To be fair we need happy go lucky types and worriers. That's how we survived all sorts of major events in the past.

So let's just accept our differences.

RedToothBrush · 27/02/2020 12:32

Have been actively looking for anything related to the two cases this morning.

I have not seen anything much yet. Everything has been posted here as far as I'm aware.

PHE I would expect to be in the process of contact tracing though.

Motorina · 27/02/2020 12:34

I don't understand why having a stockpile of food or other essentials would be considered controversial. I have done so for years. It meant that I didn't have to worry when:

  • The Beast from the East cut my village off for 5 days.
  • I had the stomach bug from hell.
  • I fell down the stairs and was on crutches for a fortnight.

It may be used if Covid-19 means I have to spend some time at home. It may not. But it's all stuff (tinned beans, rice, pasta, spices...) that I will use anyway, so what's teh big deal?

I know space, money or lack of stability make it impossible for some. But, for those of us who can, isn't that just part of basic adulting?

georgedawes · 27/02/2020 12:35

Burbage school in Buxton staying closed tomorrow.

Skyejuly · 27/02/2020 12:35

Yep. Being prepared. I am struggling to understand why it makes someone 'mental'.

I actually think that not stocking up on advance of you're able to and have the space is irresponsible. I asked my siblings to start doing this on January but they laughed at me. I'm not sharing!

Jacob Rees Mogg responds to concerns that Nazanin’s prison has Covid-19 cases: - see 12.32.

LarkDescending · 27/02/2020 12:39

*may have Covid-19 cases.

DressingGownofDoom · 27/02/2020 12:40

'For now, most people are wanting the news as it breaks.'

Yes we do. Thank you for the updates @ofwarren

At this stage anyone who announces that no one should be worried about Coronavirus as it couldn't possibly affect the uk is showing themselves up as a bit thick really.

JayDot500 · 27/02/2020 12:44

I'm loving the updates!!! I've learned a lot from these threads, thank you all Smile

Luckily I still have some Brexit Stockpile left. I'll go to Aldi tomorrow/tonight and grab some bits. I've got a newborn and a preschooler. And a DH who works in Canary Wharf. The most we can do is ensure DH washes his hands a lot (he recently told me people in the toilets are hand washing furiously), and when my preschooler comes in from school he is stripped and we wash his face and hands.

I'm not scared of COVID 19, but I'd rather we take precautions since my DH has a health issue that makes him vulnerable and my newborn is still very young.

justchecking1 · 27/02/2020 12:44

Italy has announced on Feb. 26 that it would begin testing only people with symptoms, claiming that the higher number of cases (compared to other European countries) is due to more tests being conducted.

From the Worldometer site. So Italy isn't testing as many people because it's worrying the numbers are making it look bad?? Why are all the governments just burying their heads in the sand? Surely it's better to know?

LarkDescending · 27/02/2020 12:46

Maybe test kits are beginning to run out or lab capacity reached? Where are the test kits being manufactured?
