Government actually dont care :(
My sons year 11 so cant stay home..

Poppytime · 27/02/2020 09:34

@MyFavouriteColourIsBlue 111 initially told us to stay in and we would be tested. We got called back by an infectious diseases doctor who 'assessed' there was no need in about 2 minutes and we should go about life as normal

Goodnightandgoodluck · 27/02/2020 09:34

Reading the article though, that doesn't appear to be a new coronavirus plan, but a pandemic influenza plan which has been in place for years. The UK will have one too, the difference is that in Australia it's available for the general public to view online.

fearnotsnot · 27/02/2020 09:35

Is anyone thinking of pulling their kids out of school - I mean, considering the shitty advice @Poppytime has received alone isn't that a bit fucking worrying???????????
How many more potential harborers are in the schools?

Skyejuly · 27/02/2020 09:35

Also where does line be drawn. Some kids at sons school are off as been to lombardy but not all of them have been off..school is open. I still go to work with elderly people. Just sounds so risky...

Iremembertheelderlykoreanlady · 27/02/2020 09:36

Well that's it then isn't it. If they're not bothering to test high risk people with symptoms we've not got a chance of limiting the spread.

As an asthmatic, with a OH with diabetes and parents in their 60s/70s and a child I just want to curl up in a ball and cry

Poppytime · 27/02/2020 09:36

@Skyejuly yes exactly - either schools are closed or not, this sporadic keeping some at home and some not doesn't work at all

Mittens030869 · 27/02/2020 09:37

As I said, I think it's unlikely. I completely dismissed the idea until yesterday. It's just that the incubation period is right, and I've had a dry cough and a temperature of 38 for the last week. Of course it could come from elsewhere.

Or of course it's something else entirely. I certainly didn't mean to cause offence and I apologise if I did. I'm just getting rather nervous as everyone is.

Skyejuly · 27/02/2020 09:38

If I ever passed it to any clients I would feel absolutely horrible!

Delatron · 27/02/2020 09:38

The government are being ridiculous. If this gets in to schools this will spread like wildfire, amongst children, then the parents etc etc. So simple just to close schools for two weeks but no, business as usual.

influenzaC · 27/02/2020 09:38

It doesn't matter if poppy time dc stay home. Keep your own child away from infection.

teta · 27/02/2020 09:38

@FelicityFebruary where did I say anything about making money🙄.
It's pretty obvious that this government doesn't scare about the ' little people '. Matt Hancock is increasingly looking like a rabbit in the headlights. It's worrying when Headmasters appear to have more sense than the government. Meanwhile I am starting to think that the government are welcoming the chance to reduce the numbers of the economically inactive .

Gammeldragz · 27/02/2020 09:40

@Goodnightandgoodluck our Inluenza Pandemic plan is up to view online, the guardian has a summary of it.
What are the UK's plans for dealing with a pandemic virus?

www.theguardian.com/world/ng-interactive/2020/feb/27/what-are-the-uks-plans-for-dealing-with-a-pandemic-virus?CMP=Share_AndroidApp_Copy_to_clipboard
Explains why they won't close borders and stop travel, when they may close schools or not etc.

RedToothBrush · 27/02/2020 09:42

All schools in Japan to be closed from the 29th.

SirVixofVixHall · 27/02/2020 09:43

I thought the death rate at the moment is 9% ? So almost one in ten, not one in 50.
That is an awful lot of much loved people to lose. I think they really need to ramp up the testing and tell people to not travel abroad unless essential. The slower the spread, the less impact on health care systems, and the more chance of a vaccine .
Although vaccines take an age I think.

IceWings · 27/02/2020 09:44

DS (2yo) is on the waiting list for a local nursery and they’ve just called to say they have a space. I’m in two minds about whether to send him considering there are an increasing number of school closures due to COVID? He’s fairly isolated at home (SAHM, no siblings) so perhaps it’s safer to keep it that way for a while?

WaterSheep · 27/02/2020 09:44

The number of confirmed cases in Switzerland has increased to four.

RedToothBrush · 27/02/2020 09:45

This would involve schools over a wide area, but carries a risk that social mixing of children outside school would defeat the object of the closures

Certainly no advice going out to groups like scouts at this stage...

KoalasandRabbit · 27/02/2020 09:45

Just logged on to David Abel and more video's out if anyone not seen them already.

Approach does seem inconsistent - crazy to have school ski trips in school Monday and half Tues then off. Suspect some political battles going on with some prioritising the economy and some people's health.

ofwarren · 27/02/2020 09:47

I would just wait it out IceWings let's see what happens over the next few months

Kat2345 · 27/02/2020 09:47

The problem isn't the disease but people's complete over reaction. outside Wuhan the death rate is 0.7%. Threads like these just panic people, make people stock pile food, and cause unnecessary worry. People die of flu every winter. Stop all this mad panicking.

MissPoldark · 27/02/2020 09:48

@IceWings if I was you I definitely wouldn’t bother at the moment.

RedToothBrush · 27/02/2020 09:48

The full list of London schools sending pupils home over coronavirus fears
Some pupils had returned from Italy and said they felt unwell

There are whole schools closed because children are unwell having returned from Italy...

WaterSheep · 27/02/2020 09:49

Certainly no advice going out to groups like scouts at this stage...

Indeed. I'm in Girlguiding and just last weekend there was a huge Celebrate event. Over 13,500 girls at the NEC.

KoalasandRabbit · 27/02/2020 09:49

We have snow here, anyone else?
