Did they say royal Liverpool and royal free hospital?

Yes they seem to be splitting them up and sending confirmed cases all over the place.

Of the 4 who tested positive a few days ago two patients are in the Royal Hallamshire in Sheffield, one is in the Royal in Liverpool and a fourth was transferred to the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle

wheresmymojo · 27/02/2020 09:18

What annoys me is that they don't release the information about where the new cases are based immediately.

We know it will be out in the media anyway over the next hour or two as they do some digging so they may as well just say

YoursTunbridgeWells · 27/02/2020 09:18

@ACautionaryTale In some respects if it were just flu maybe just let it sweep through. But with a death rate of up to 4% - that could mean over £1.5m dead (I think that's about 4% of UK pop?) Though experts have forecast about 500k dead in the UK. That's a lot of people dead.

TreesSandSea · 27/02/2020 09:18

Wow Poppytime I would definitely have kept my DC home.
I think the guidance is running behind the actual situation on the ground, as I guess is inevitable.

Iknewyouwerewaitingforme · 27/02/2020 09:19

For Pakistan with a population of near 200 Million people to only just get its first case is very telling. All main Pakistan airports have been screening all inbound passengers for temperature/other signs on landing for weeks now. I had my temperature taken last week when visiting Islamabad- then flew back into Heathrow- absolutely nothing/no checks. This is exactly what we and all other countries should have been doing from the start.

Poppytime · 27/02/2020 09:19

We called twice - the outcome was that they refused to test us. I could keep her home but they have told me to follow their advice.

FourTeaFallOut · 27/02/2020 09:21

Its the long term economic fall out that will cause more problems than the relatively small number of deaths that will ensue.

God sake, here, why don't you have a look around and decided which 1 in 50 people you'd have drop dead so as to not cause you an inconvenience.

Poppytime · 27/02/2020 09:21

I might get DH to go and get her. I wish we had been tested so at least I'd know what I was dealing with instead of guess work

ABingThing · 27/02/2020 09:21

Most Chinese takeaway owners/workers aren't constantly flitting to and from China. Let's not make things even harder for their businesses by perpetuating the myth that anyone Chinese is automatically harbouring the virus.

Thank you @AvocadoOwl - this message is very important

MyFavouriteColourIsBlue · 27/02/2020 09:23

@Poppytime they refused to test her? On what grounds?

Poppytime · 27/02/2020 09:23

Yes thanks @avocado - my DH and his family (and therefore my children) are Asian and he is already very aware of being treated a bit differently at the moment. I'd be so sad if my DD and DS were too.

Steala · 27/02/2020 09:23

I'm worried about the Tenerife hotel. If they're mingling, if one person catches it, they can't all be expected to catch it at the same time, so when can they assume it's "safe"? Surely better to get them out and isolate ? Also, the poor poor staff.

Poppytime · 27/02/2020 09:23

@MyFavouriteColourIsBlue they said they had to be 'pragmatic' and they were too busy so wouldn't be testing. And that was that.

TreesSandSea · 27/02/2020 09:24

The decisions being made by governments in this situation are economic as much as humanitarian. Which I suppose are so interchangeable as to be nearly meaningless. If the global economy fails that is bad news for mortality rates too.

Still grates when people are shrugging and saying - it’s only the old and ill who will cop it. There are a lot of very loved people who are old or ill or both.

MyFavouriteColourIsBlue · 27/02/2020 09:24

@Poppytime that is disgraceful. They really are chucking us all under a bus aren’t they?

TreesSandSea · 27/02/2020 09:25

... and that is not, of course, to say that unloved people are disposable either - just that I don’t think people are thinking this through!

Poppytime · 27/02/2020 09:26

@MyFavouriteColourIsBlue yep that's exactly how it feels. We tried to do the right thing and they basically did nothing with what I thought was pretty key information and following their own guidance.

HasaDigaEebowai · 27/02/2020 09:26

We are not ready for this to hit yet and so they have to keep panic down. I am aware that our local hospital doesn't yet have a pod

Australia’s coronavirus pandemic plan: mass vaccinations and stadium quarantine
A pandemic could last up to 10 months with 40% of the workforce sidelined by illness or caring for family in worst-case scenario

Well Australia have let people know what could be on the cards...

... Meanwhile in the UK...

...."Is the boss in the office yet? Can we put out the press release yet?"

FelicityFebruary · 27/02/2020 09:30

Although I agree people are following government t advice still teta I find your post way more than "distasteful". The we've all got to get on making money is why this hasn't been contained. China gave us time.

Commercial companies are instigating far more restrictive travel rules and quarantine rules on their staff than the government. That tells me something.

Iremembertheelderlykoreanlady · 27/02/2020 09:31

Poppytime - I can't understand why you sent her to school?!
She's been in an effected area and has symptoms. Fuck 111 you should have kept her home!

Zorona · 27/02/2020 09:31

How can Australia plan a mass vaccination if there isn’t one? Are we expecting one to be available soon?

ofwarren · 27/02/2020 09:31

Totally agree felicity

MyFavouriteColourIsBlue · 27/02/2020 09:32

@Poppytime was that information from 111 or did you speak to someone else? I'm a bit speechless actually that someone who travelled to an at risk region AND has symptoms they refuse to test. WTAF?!

Poppytime · 27/02/2020 09:33

I was told to send her to school. Believe me I questioned it with them! But I was made to feel unreasonable
