School closed in Buxton due to confirmed case amongst parent population

As in the parent population are confirming it or as in a parent is confirmed to have it?

Fiberoptic · 27/02/2020 08:09

Frazzled2207 the incubation period is long and can often be symptomless for a while. It’s just not worth taking the risk for other people. If you feel well it doesn’t mean you haven’t got it. I’m concerned that members of that party came back feeling unwell. It could be coincidence and it might not be. It’s responsible to consider how this might effect other people. Not just the individual personally.

There have been many areas where there was no outbreak at all and cases have been appearing.

If you come back from Italy where the out break was near and members of the party are ill and being tested - why the hell would you not err on the side of caution?

School closed in Buxton due to confirmed case amongst parent population

Is that another confirmed case for the UK then? Not that far from me....

AvocadoOwl · 27/02/2020 08:11

And my DH has reminded me that he went to a Chinese takeaway a couple of weeks before I developed these symptoms.

Most Chinese takeaway owners/workers aren't constantly flitting to and from China. Let's not make things even harder for their businesses by perpetuating the myth that anyone Chinese is automatically harbouring the virus.

Hope you are feeling better soon.

AlexaShutUp · 27/02/2020 08:12

I don’t want to find out that in a weeks time we find it’s rife in Milan and the advice changes, meanwhile it’s too late because everyone returning from there has been carrying on as normal.

Unfortunately, I think that's exactly what's going to happen.

Derbyshire school closed for deep clean after confirmed case of coronavirus
A Derbyshire school is closed today for a deep clean after a confirmed case of coronavirus.

Parents and carers with children at Burbage Primary School, Buxton, were informed yesterday that the school is to be closed today for a ‘deep clean to be completed’.

In a message sent via the school’s ‘parent hub’ app, parents and carers were informed that there was ‘a confirmed case of coronavirus’ among the ‘parent population’.

Here we go...

Is that another confirmed case for the UK then?

I was wondering that.

chillied · 27/02/2020 08:13

Next week I'm due to go to a conference in Belgium. Two Italian colleagues also due to go, both from the North Italy region but not the exact towns.

Should we insist the Italians don't come? If they do should I stay away? Should I stay away anyway?

RedToothBrush · 27/02/2020 08:14

Is that another confirmed case for the UK then?
Yes

WaterSheep · 27/02/2020 08:16

If it's another UK case it seems strange it hasn't been reported sooner. It says parents were informed yesterday.

ofwarren · 27/02/2020 08:16

Good find RedToothBrush! I'm going to try and find out more

Apricotfool · 27/02/2020 08:18

Thanks for the advice @ofwarren

How likely do we think quarantine on the levels of Wuhan etc will be in the UK?

Newjez · 27/02/2020 08:23

I've been immune suppressed for many years. I touch things like buttons with the back of my hands and knuckles now by habit. I still catch the odd cold, but I can but try.

Skyejuly · 27/02/2020 08:24

Wow so it was confirmed but kept quiet?

WaterSheep · 27/02/2020 08:25

How likely do we think quarantine on the levels of Wuhan etc will be in the UK?

My opinion, but I think there's absolutely no chance of similar levels of quarantine happening in the UK.

lemonjumper · 27/02/2020 08:25

Has the Buxton case been confirmed officially yet, or is everything still based on the message posted on Facebook yesterday evening?

RedToothBrush · 27/02/2020 08:26

Has the Buxton case been confirmed officially yet, or is everything still based on the message posted on Facebook yesterday evening?

The government haven't acknowledged it yet.

NcFortuna · 27/02/2020 08:26

@BrieAndChilli How likely? I can’t see them having much luck with supergluing our shite UK PVC doors and windows shut.

Frazzled2207 · 27/02/2020 08:27

@fibreoptic
Fair point but they are following official advice.

Ok so Buxton is very close to us.

ofwarren · 27/02/2020 08:29

Local papers generally wouldn't run it if it wasnt. They use the word suspected or say someone is being tested. Nobody likes having to retract.

WaterSheep · 27/02/2020 08:29

The Buxton case is strange. There's no way the school would shut for a deep clean without a reason, but yet no Government confirmation of the case.

Very odd.

Newjez · 27/02/2020 08:29

@VivaLeBeaver

We could lose half the royal family over this?

Every cloud as they say.

Hell, Harry could become king, and we could have a mixed race queen!
