To be worried about coronavirus part 4

idontusuallypanic · 24/02/2020 12:40

I looked and couldn't see another 4th thread.

I'm personally worried this morning as I've heard that two students ds goes to school with have just returned from Milan where cases have just rocketed.

OP posts:

Waiting call back from 111. Because DS hasn't got any symptoms atm they said he could go about his day as normal, and even go to nursery. But not me, DH and DD - doesn't seem quite right?

I too wonder what the statement will be about. I guess if urgent then they'd do immediately? I'm not sure how these things work.

@ofwarren your updates are very helpful - thank you!

Our school sent out an updated letter today including Italy, naming the specific affected regions as well, which was helpful - I just hope people read it! The problem with all of this is that we are, to an extent, relying on other people to be responsible and self-isolate or call 111 if needed. I'm pretty sure that not everyone will do that. It's a bit like following the 48-hour rule: some people just don't bother.

I very rarely travel to London for work and someone has just suggested a group face-to-face meeting in a few weeks. I'm a bit nervous about it. I wonder if I would be unreasonable to express this.

They have everywhere else. Australia announced another this morning

There's a rumour onTwitter that Boris Johnson is avoiding cameras as he is sporting a large black eye ......

ofwarren · 26/02/2020 10:47

I won't be online constantly today because I'm at college. I've got notifications on for updates so if anything comes in ill put it on as soon as I can.
If I miss anything, others can update the thread.

URGENT: #ITALY REPORTS 374 CASES AND 12 DEATHS.

Goingabitcrazy · 26/02/2020 11:14

Have been lurking on this thread since the first one. I avoided posting in a poor attempt to keep my health anxiety under control.
However I'm starting to really panic now. I am a frontline hcp. I also live in Wales where hundreds of italian rugby fans were here for the match a couple of weeks ago.
I think we'll start to see a lot more cases here in the next week or so and no matter what the government say the NHS is not prepared or equipped for this at all.

BREAKING: ELDERLY PERSON IN #TOKYO DIES AFTER CONTRACTING #CORONAVIRUS- #japan

Misandei · 26/02/2020 11:21

Can anyone pls help answer these questions as i can't seem to find any info on it:

1.Does catching Covid then provide immunity from it? (hoping here)
2.How long does recovery take?
3.What is the treatment being given for it or are they just treating the individual symptoms?
4.Is it true no children have caught it and does that include teenagers?

ofwarren · 26/02/2020 11:21

URGENT: #Greece has confirmed its first #coronavirus case, the health ministry said on Wednesday.

The patient was a 38-year-old Greek woman who had travelled from an area of northern #Italy, said Sotiris Tsiodras, a representative of the Ministry of Health.

DressingGownofDoom · 26/02/2020 11:21

I am alarmed. Can any preppers tell me if I can get my hands on a mask, what kind is best to buy?

EducatingArti · 26/02/2020 11:22

Some children have caught it but they are tending to be less affected by it.

HasaDigaEebowai · 26/02/2020 11:23

.Does catching Covid then provide immunity from it? (hoping here) - NO
2.How long does recovery take? - weeks depending on the severity.
3.What is the treatment being given for it or are they just treating the individual symptoms? - no cure and so they are treating/managing the resulting conditions where possible. Many having to be hospitalised and on ventilators.
4.Is it true no children have caught it and does that include teenagers? Not true

ofwarren · 26/02/2020 11:23
  1. No, some cases of catching it twice
  2. Can be a month, some people have life long illness afterwards
  3. Treating symptoms, trials of some drugs that were used in SARS
  4. A few children have caught it. 2 that I know of are 4, one is 10 and 1 is 15. These are Italy, I don't know about other countries.
Misandei · 26/02/2020 11:23

There's a rumour onTwitter that Boris Johnson is avoiding cameras as he is sporting a large black eye ......

Thank goodness! i thought you were going to say avoiding, ".....as he has contracted COVID".

HasaDigaEebowai · 26/02/2020 11:24

if I can get my hands on a mask, what kind is best to buy?

best is an FFP3 reuseable mask. About £25

ofwarren · 26/02/2020 11:24

HasaDigaEebowai · 26/02/2020 11:25
