To be worried about coronavirus part 4

idontusuallypanic · 24/02/2020 12:40

I looked and couldn't see another 4th thread.

I'm personally worried this morning as I've heard that two students ds goes to school with have just returned from Milan where cases have just rocketed.

OP posts:
ofwarren · 26/02/2020 09:06

Sorry, was on the school run.
Going by feedback I will keep the updates on here but not on the prepping thread. One place is enough. Sorry to those who don't like it but I can't please everyone.
The posts are all verifyable. If anyone needs a source on the ones without a source, just ask and I'll get it. I just try to get them on as quick as possible. None are hearsay because they are taken from local news sources in other countries. If I'm not certain of something, I won't share it or I would say that it's something I'm looking into.
If most people definitely change their minds and want the posts elsewhere, just let me know.

Romania's interior ministry confirms there are no confirmed cases of coronavirus. However, at least 32 people are being tested and 26 are in quarantine.

The information given previously was from Reuters so I had no reason to not believe it's validation. It turns out a patient got diagnosed in Italy but had VISITED Romania. They aren't actually Romanian.

Thank you ofWarren. I've been getting my updates from this thread because frankly the mainstream news is failing.
Does anyone know what happened to the reporter who went into wuhan at the start and was allowed to leave if he self isolated? The last time I saw him reporting he had a cough and looked unwell.

Thanks ofWarren. I appreciate your updates here. (I can't be arsed to trawl through the preppers thread.)

On the Today programme this morning a journalist (not sure who I missed the start) was interviewed. He’s got a sore throat, and returned from an affected area. After phoning 111 he was directed to drive to local hospital, in through a different entrance to others and keep in isolation then a nurse in protective clothing tested him for Covid-19. He was giving the impression that this is what happens when you phone 111. He now needs to self isolate at home for 48 hours whilst waiting for result.
Unfortunately on this thread people are not getting directed to hospital for a test, it seems? This is alarming. The Prime Minister has disappeared and the services people are told to use are then ignoring them?

NEW: Kuwait reports 6 new cases of coronavirus, 7 so far today t.co/eUoE2b20hL

Gonegrey31 · 26/02/2020 09:30

It was Nick Robinson onRadio 4. High profile journalist.

HRH2020 · 26/02/2020 09:30

I also heard that interview and wondered whether it was a "look good" exercise as he would have obviously disclosed his occupation. It was Nick Robinson.

Motorina · 26/02/2020 09:32

I found the Nick Robinson interview really interesting, particularly his comments on how time consuming and resource heavy the process was. When the NHS is not exactly over-resourced as is.

Notstrongandstable · 26/02/2020 09:34

@Notjustacigar- we are going skiing in French Alps on Saturday..I'm not thrilled about it but what can I do? We'll lose flights, car hire, ski lessons that are paid for. I'm actually not that worried about catching it but am a bit worried about getting stuck there. The cost, school absence etc
Anyway, probably doesn't help you but I feel to cancel now would be an over reaction not to mention a huge waste of money that took us a long time to get together!

Notstrongandstable · 26/02/2020 09:37

@ofwarren- any idea where in France that death is? Is it one of the previous cases ?

Grasspigeons · 26/02/2020 09:37

That same process is what my sibling had to do on Monday. They also had a team disinfect the pod after their test. It took 6 houra from calling 111 to be phoned vack and directed to the hospital. There was a specifuc timeslot, a specific parling spot, an escort to thr pod. It is time consuming with the disinfecting too.

BREAKING: Iran reports 44 new cases of coronavirus and 4 new deaths, raising total to 139 cases and 19 deaths t.co/eUoE2b20hL

FelicityFebruary · 26/02/2020 09:38

They will be dividing out people coming back from the red zone towns in lockdown and more general wider areas I guess?

Or is it far more random?

I predicted yesterday that our Foreign office advice would be don't visit the specific quarantine area in northern italy. They outdid that with not recommending any but essential visits to that area! I continue if local Italian law enforcement were letting family members in. I was trying to imagine the scenario.

Any way I am thinking of VenetoResident and other MNers in the area. X

FelicityFebruary · 26/02/2020 09:40

Sorry for mangled postings.

I wondered if they were letting family members in through the cordon. Just trying to imagine what "essential visits" might take place!

ofwarren · 26/02/2020 09:42

ofwarren · 26/02/2020 09:42

Bold fail sorry. I'm attempting to type and walk in gale force winds 😂

FelicityFebruary · 26/02/2020 09:44

You're a trooper offwarren!

woodencoffeetable · 26/02/2020 09:45

my parents (mid 70s) are on their way to a rail trip through italy.

I hope they are fine.
they don't take advice very well and are very suspicious of doctors and authorities. plus the language barrier.

BlessedBeTheFruitCake · 26/02/2020 09:50

Our local school has just come back from a skiing trip in Italy, the students and teachers are now self isolating for 14days but they've already been back in school for 2 days. My ds doesn't attend there but it's scary how quickly it can possibly spread.

CaffiSaliMali · 26/02/2020 09:50

@ofwarren - your updates are much appreciated here. Absolutely manic at work and this thread is the quickest way for me to stay up to date.

I'm asthmatic and have other underlying health issues so am finding it helpful to know what's going on to help me prepare.

*Frustrating story in the ER: Patient just returned from Italy, bad symptoms, flu tests negative, doctor tries to get #COVID19 test - but not available! And the person just returned from the new outbreak epicenter in Europe. InfuriatingFire. Cmon
@CDCgov

  • ship the gosh darn kits!*

I'm following the Coronavirus reddit page.
Many American's saying they are just not testing there.
