Pupils at a Teesside school have been sent home amid concerns over #coronavirus after returning from an Italian skiing trip. 36 pupils from Middlesbrough’s Trinity Catholic College were sent home today. There is no suggestion as yet that any pupil is displaying symptoms.

Three #Cheshire schools have taken action after concerns about coronavirus following ski trips to Italy. @BrineLeas in #Nantwich says some children & teachers are self-isolating. @CheshireEast has also given advice to @SandbachHigh. Cransley School in #Northwich is shut.

Will the virus be killed off when warmer weather comes?

BentBastard · 25/02/2020 15:37

According to Trump it will Hmm. Take from that what you will...

RedToothBrush · 25/02/2020 15:38

Personally I think the whole world should be on lockdown and self isolate for a month. Yes, the global economy would take a massive beating (but many of us can work from home to keep the basics ticking over) but surely by then the virus would be "contained" enough to know exactly who has it and who hasn't and if we self isolated for two months surely the virus would have pretty much died out altogether? Or at the very least retreated enough to allow medical agencies and supplies to recover a little? All a bit dramatic but surely better than a global pandemic?

I live in a parallel dimension to you.

Do you think everyone has a month's worth of food in their house? Do you think there is enough food on supermarket shelves if a months shutdown was announced tonight? Do you think everyone could get to the shops and fight their way in the chaos before the shutdown?

That's before I think of anything else.

Have we had any updates from Veneto Resident lately? I don't want to tag her in case things are too stressful to be distracted by mn.

cheninblanc · 25/02/2020 15:41

It's become a bit closer to home for me this afternoon. I'm not directly near anyone but a member of my house is with a large group of people who spent last week in Italy. No official word from any lead of this group, they don't seem to have been in very infected area but were in a tourist area.

ajandjjmum · 25/02/2020 15:43

I did have a big shopping delivery this morning RedTooth! Grin And lots of loo roll and paracetamol.

Singapore isn't cold.

Porcupineinwaiting · 25/02/2020 15:44

@tenlittlecygnets no one knows. Hopefully yes but not necessarily.

Twixes · 25/02/2020 15:44

@tenlittlecygnets That's one theory but it's about 25 degrees in Kuwait at the moment and they have cases. Where I am we're lucky to get 25 degrees in the height of summer!

Twixes · 25/02/2020 15:47

Anyone watching the WHO live feed?

I appreciate that China have been working hard to contain COVID but he's bending the truth. He was just showing graphs of cases across rest of China vs Hubei and praising how fabulous the control of the spread of disease is.

What he hasn't mentioned once is that all of Hubei is in complete lockdown with the military surrounding the border of the entire province.

RedToothBrush · 25/02/2020 15:47

It's become a bit closer to home for me this afternoon

Yep. Know various people at affected schools and who work at nearby hospitals.

Dh works with people who live close to affected schools (dunno if they have kids there).

So yeah...

I'm unsurprised tbh.

Reports today suggest it's all over Europe now anyway though.

#Bahrain announces a two-week suspension of studies in public and private schools and kindergartens in anticipation of the spread of the #Coronavirus

Sassenach85 · 25/02/2020 16:01

All these English schools with trips to Italy .... has there still been no mention of anything like this in Scotland? Surely there are schools up there who went on skiing trips or whatever?

ofwarren · 25/02/2020 16:03

#Bahrain now reporting 23 cases of #coronavirus -- up from 17 just about an hour ago

BentBastard · 25/02/2020 16:06

It seems oddly quiet on UK and US cases front.

TheAirbender · 25/02/2020 16:08

35c here in Dubai, we have 13 cases and Iran’s next door so I’d say the theory of hot weather stopping this virus isn’t a good one...

If Iran doesn't get its act together there will soon be more cases of people testing positive who have recently travelled from Iran than the official number of people who have coronavirus in Iran...

Health chiefs’ warning follows researchers’ claim that port screening will only catch half of infected travellers

Given the incubation period, I'm genuinely surprised they think it's as many as half.
