Is Tyrol a ski resort?

user1471525753 · 25/02/2020 13:37

Tyrol is a region of Austria, it includes some ski resorts.

ofwarren · 25/02/2020 13:38

Thank you. I know absolutely nothing about Austria.

chimppyjamas · 25/02/2020 13:38

We came back from the Tyrol on Saturday. I started coughing on the plane and am off work today with bad cough/cold. No fever. Don't know if I should return to work tomorrow if I'm feeling better or not. I'm expect it's just a cold but feeling a bit worried about infecting other people. But the thousands of people in Austria last week can't all self-isolate surely??

TokyoSushi · 25/02/2020 13:39

Yes, lots of skiing in Tyrol it's a region around Innsbruck but borders Northern Italy (it was beautiful) but slightly panicking now!

CantstandmLMs · 25/02/2020 13:48

My best friend lives in China (Chengdu not Wuhan) but has been out of the country, returning a few days ago. I am worried about her but I think she'll be fine. She has posted me videos of short and brief trips out to the supermarket etc and it's like a ghost town. They definitely have the right idea.

BREAKING: #ITALY— first case of #coronavirus in #Liguria is a 72 year old lady who was staying in a hotel in #Alassio . Fortunately, she is in good condition.

SirVixofVixHall · 25/02/2020 13:49

Dh has had a temperature, cough, sore throat , since Sunday. Not been travelling at all, although he was at an event in London about 18 days ago.
I assume no need to worry as just a normal Winter virus?

HasaDigaEebowai · 25/02/2020 13:51

Well they are covid 19 symptoms SirVix has he had contact with anyone who has returend from an affected area?

Fiberoptic · 25/02/2020 13:53

My children go to the school that’s closed for the week on the BBC.

To be fair the school have been very good with communication and taking good measures to keep everyone safe.

Some of the parents have been contacted to reporters but the school have asked us not to talk to them - which is understandable.

Fiberoptic · 25/02/2020 13:54

By reporters **

PurpleCalm · 25/02/2020 13:56

My child is due to go to Spain on a school trip in a few weeks. I know Spain is relatively "safe" for now but is it worth contacting school to ask if the insurance covers cancellation? Just paid the last instalment too grr! They are flying which makes me edgy :(

Parker231 · 25/02/2020 13:57

The message below has been issued by authorities in Rome.

As face masks sell out at Rome pharmacies, remember the ONLY reasons to wear one:

You’re a health professional who treats ill people, you’re helping an ill person, you develop coughing and difficulty breathing.

Anyone else does not, repeat NOT, need masks.

ofwarren · 25/02/2020 13:59

Fiberoptic it's great that they are taking it so seriously

Balkinfly · 25/02/2020 14:02

Taken decision to collect DS from school as a precaution an wait and see if any cases from ski trip.

Mittens030869 · 25/02/2020 14:03

Well they are covid 19 symptoms SirVix has he had contact with anyone who has returend from an affected area?

They're also symptoms of a normal winter virus, though. I've had them for 5 days now, but I regularly have them as I catch anything going. None of us have been anywhere near an affected area at all, though obviously, as my DH works in the city centre, there's no way of knowing that for sure.

Because of my state of health at the moment, I can't allow myself to panic just because my symptoms could be coronavirus; they could also be all manner of other illnesses.

YoursTunbridgeWells · 25/02/2020 14:04

@purplecalm I would find out about the insurance.

I have the following dilemmas:

  1. Next week DD has a theatre trip to London - coach and packed theatre.
  2. Same day - DH and I are supposed to be at a concert - standing only. Have been looking forward to for months

Incidently I have had a nasty bug from work sore throat, fever cough. It's left a few of us with bacterial chest infections.
Clearly I won't be going to concet if ill, if I'm not then I don't know. Don't suppose it would go down well wearing a mask to these things.

Spanish hospitals begin to look for the coronavirus in patients admitted for pneumonia

The measure arises from the suspicion that the virus may have been circulating in Spain for several days without being detected.

Mittens030869 · 25/02/2020 14:05

I was meaning of course that other people at his place of work or on the bus could have been in an affected area, but we have no way of knowing.

SirVixofVixHall · 25/02/2020 14:11

He hasn’t had any contact with anyone from an infected area, as far as he knows. He was in a taxi in London, rather than on the tube. We live in a rural village.
Really though, infected people could be anywhere now, couldn’t they ? Yet I know if I call my GP they won’t be worried as his symptoms also fit with a standard virus. He doesn’t seem ill enough for it to be flu, but he is never ill, so possibly mild flu ....just that at the back of my mind, like everyone else, I am worrying about CV. Both dds have a slight cough, I have a very slight cough and a tight chest, but I had a cold last week.

lemonjumper · 25/02/2020 14:13

The 2pm update is late again (figures are correct as of 24/02, though the 'last updated' date at the top is today due to travel advisory updates earlier).

When are we expecting the test results for the cruise passengers who returned at the weekend? The page states they won't be included in our tally until the UK results come back.

HasaDigaEebowai · 25/02/2020 14:14

Its tricky since it could be anywhere. I've developed a cough and a slightly bubbly chest despite hardly leaving the house for the past fortnight (although plenty of others have been in and out of here). Im ignoring it as most people will with these sorts of symptoms.

lemonjumper · 25/02/2020 14:14

Oh - just seen on Twitter

"UPDATE on coronavirus (#COVID19) testing in the UK:

Today's figures will be published later this afternoon.

We are working hard to provide you with the latest information and will tweet this out as soon as possible.

This delay does not indicate a confirmation of any new cases."

Local schools here have told all pupils who have been on the school skiing trips at half term to self isolate for 14 days. Unfortunately, they were all in school for a while yesterday before the decision was made.
