If in lockdown nobody can go in or out without special permission

teta · 25/02/2020 13:04

With regards to pregnancy Dr John Campbell on youtube reviews some of the initial evidence of the effect of this virus on pregnant women. They were thought to be fine, unlike Sars . The study included only a very small number but would be well worth watching.

Hollyboba · 25/02/2020 13:05

What do you mean waited out the two weeks?

It was Rome, so not likely to be an issue really.

I'm probably being paranoid

onalongsabbatical · 25/02/2020 13:05

@ofwarren really appreciating your updates, thank you. Flowers

ofwarren · 25/02/2020 13:07

No problem. I follow a few specific accounts on twitter so it's a quick cut and paste.

Funkycats · 25/02/2020 13:08

So within the area, people can still come and go?
How are the areas defined? What happens to elderly dependents (for example) if they're outside the area?
Lock down is a very tough call to make isn't?

acquiescence · 25/02/2020 13:10

Thanks everyone.

The Rome cases were the initial ones and 3.5 weeks ago with no new cases so far, but that of course could all change. I’m erring on the side of caution but will be upset to miss out on the trip, we have paid out nearly £1k on flights and accommodation. I’m almost hoping the advice changes to ‘do not travel’ so we could claim on travel insurance and do something else.

It’s our first trip away after our son died last year so should it’s quite significant for us. We will see, it should become clearer over the next week. I’ll keep an eye on this thread for your updates.

acquiescence · 25/02/2020 13:11

teta thanks, I’ll take a look.

yolofish · 25/02/2020 13:12

acquiescence I am so sorry about your son. Flowers

The Guardian’s live feed includes (at 13.03 today) a video blog from an Italian in one of the locked-down towns.

URGENT: ANOTHER #IRAN Politican tests positive for #Coronavirus— Mahmoud Sadeghi, a member of the Parliament of Iran announced that he was tested positive for #CoVid19

Actually, travel insurance is screwed anyway.

DD was booked to travel to the Philippines in April via Hong Kong. The President of HK has banned people travelling from China, HK and Macau. She has had to cancel her flights and tour - because she did so early, the cancellation cost was 'only' £400. If she would have waited, she'd have lost over £2,000. I know it's only money - and when you look at how some people are suffering, it's irrelevant.

But despite the fact that she can't do the trip because the President of the Philippines won't let her (not taking it personally!!), insurance (AXA - so supposedly decent company) say she's not covered.

So - bit of a diversion. But as we always get decent travel cover, I'd assumed we were covered, and it's not always the case. Worth checking for anyone planning to travel!

ajandjjmum · 25/02/2020 13:18

*Sorry - President of the Philippines.

So sorry - puts all of our worries into perspective.

Two schools in Cheshire are closing, surely yours will follow suit @YoursTunbrudgeWells - just come through now on Sky News so not had chance to fully research yet... It does seem to have suddenly got much worse over the last day or so.

Funkycats · 25/02/2020 13:19

Thank you @LarkDescending that is an interesting video. I can see how it would have a huge impact on the economy /care work /farming etc as so many of us travel out of the areas where we live.

LarkDescending · 25/02/2020 13:20

Re travel insurance: looks out for epidemic/pandemic exclusion clauses in some policies.

LarkDescending · 25/02/2020 13:21

*look out

#Bahrain Ministry of Health: Number of #Coronavirus infections has increased to 17

TokyoSushi · 25/02/2020 13:24

Our school have also just put out an alert reminding about handwashing, the current government advice and what to do if you're returning from Northern Italy, what a perfect storm with infections in that area and the masses returning from half term ski trips - I fear its coming our way...

ofwarren · 25/02/2020 13:24

1 new case of #coronavirus in northern #Italy

2 cases now in Tyrol, Austria. We (and thousands of other families) came back from there at the weekend.

TokyoSushi · 25/02/2020 13:30

Oh Jeez, we came back from Tyrol but it was 3 weeks ago!

lemonjumper · 25/02/2020 13:33

I am impressed by those schools sending alerts out. I haven't heard a peep from either of the schools my kids go to.
