Hi, im looking for some help, my daughter is 7, and has been in a lot of pain in her lower left side of her abdomen. It came on out the blue last Sunday night and has got worse. We have visited the hospital twice and the doctor twice. They have taken bloods but couldn't see an issue. Her tummy hurts when being pressed, urine seems clear. No heavy lifting, not muscle pull or anything. I'm honestly at a loss, pain medication doesn't do much, doctor is going to check which bloods were taken and call me after lunchtime. She's passing poo and wind. This pain leaves her crying, doubled over. Any ideas?? Thanks

Well done on pushing for the scan so that they could get to the cause of it.

Excellent news that things can start actually being treated. You must be extremely relieved.

Skierrdery · 25/02/2020 16:57

They'll probably be able to let you home today then will they?

Feelingsolost1 · 25/02/2020 17:02

Yes - we are being discharged soon, cannula needs to be taken out. I think when my head hits my pillow I'll be out like a light this evening 😂😂😂😂 thank you all honestly x

Just seen this. Thanks for updating. Hopefully, it was constipation and your dd will be much better soon.

Well done for pushing and not being fobbed off.

SistemaAddict · 25/02/2020 17:13

Bowel pain is horrendous. Poor girl. I hope she has a huge poo and feels much better Thanks if they g go Ive here lactulose then make sure she drinks plenty as this helps it work.

legalseagull · 25/02/2020 17:16

Constipation and impacted bowels can be excruciating. After having my first child via C-section I didn't poo for 10 days. I was so close to calling 999 from the toilet as I thought I was going to die! I was convinced my uterus was bursting open or something

Orchidflower1 · 25/02/2020 17:47

@Feelingsolost1 so glad your dd has a diagnosis and I genuinely hope she’s on the mend soon. 🌺

TheNoiseHurts · 25/02/2020 18:10

You poor things.

That blockage must have been agony. I'm so glad you got to the bottom of it (no pun intended).
Poor girl.

WTFdidwedo · 25/02/2020 18:21

I had this age 10 and thought I was dying! My 3yo currently suffers from an impaction and looking back I'm actually quite upset that as a child mine wasn't picked up on earlier as I still suffer issues now.

Feelingsolost1 · 25/02/2020 18:31

Just got in the car, been away from the hospital maybe 15 minutes, and she's sobbing with pain. She's exhausted, I don't honestly know what I can do to help anyone x

I’m very surprised they didn’t give her a suppository.
Try fresh orange juice. Or prune juice. A glass of hot water.

Clangus00 · 25/02/2020 18:35

Sorry...have they released her after a bowel movement in hospital?

Sunshinegirl82 · 25/02/2020 18:37

What have they suggested to dislodge the blockage? Movicol? Glycerin suppository? You can buy glycerin suppositories over the counter.

Imp action is awful, she won't feel better until the blockage has cleared unfortunately.

I really do recommend this website OP. There are sections for you, and others for your DD to read.
DS and I have found it extremely helpful.

Feelingsolost1 · 25/02/2020 18:59

Taking all that on bored, I have fresh orange in the house. Yes movicol, 3x sachets per day. No bowel movement since Sunday morning.
Was told the usual, if it gets worse, come back x

Thanks for those links, I'll have a look once I'm home x

If she needs disimpaction she will need to go up to 12 sachets a day, 3 is normally a maintenance dose to keep things going but won't remove a blockage if that is he problem. Fingers crossed for you both!

Namechangeforthegamechange · 25/02/2020 19:05

I was hospitalised and prepped for surgery as a kid with symptoms like this when my dad gave me a big cuddle and I let out an almighty fart. I had trapped wind and remember it being so painful, more painful than when I did have appendicitis! I took charcoal tablets and drank peppermint tea whenever I got the pain again.

Sunshinegirl82 · 25/02/2020 19:07

I'd be trying a suppository I think to be honest. Movicol is top stuff but you'll need more than 3 a day I would think if she's got a full on blockage. See how you go overnight but I'd be tempted to be poised to go back to the GP tomorrow for some further guidance on how to get things moving.

My DS1 suffered terribly with constipation as a baby, we ended up keeping him on a maintenance dose of movicol for well over a year.

HalfSizeMe · 25/02/2020 19:10

Oromorph in itself can cause constipation so although it will help the pain it won't help the overall issue

Feilin · 25/02/2020 19:10

You need microlax or phosphate enema potentially. If no relief call your gp or out of hours they can up the movicol etc and advise

Feelingsolost1 · 25/02/2020 19:15

Really? I was told 3 sachets would help move things.. God almighty. OK I'll look into each and every one of your advice. All appreciated. She's just had her dose of ibuprofen and due Paracetamol at 9. Gonna prop her up with some pillows, big glass of fresh orange and a hot water bottle. X

OP posts:
elaeocarpus · 25/02/2020 19:15

I cant believe they didn't do an enema to clear it. 3 a day movicol wont budge it. You'll need 8-12 a day and you will need to stay in once it starts moving as she will be constantly in the loo. You need to wait until it is basically water.

Good luck.
