Hi, im looking for some help, my daughter is 7, and has been in a lot of pain in her lower left side of her abdomen. It came on out the blue last Sunday night and has got worse. We have visited the hospital twice and the doctor twice. They have taken bloods but couldn't see an issue. Her tummy hurts when being pressed, urine seems clear. No heavy lifting, not muscle pull or anything. I'm honestly at a loss, pain medication doesn't do much, doctor is going to check which bloods were taken and call me after lunchtime. She's passing poo and wind. This pain leaves her crying, doubled over. Any ideas?? Thanks

I visited my GP because I had all the symptoms of tonsillitis. Luckily he was on the ball otherwise my 'tummy ache' could have been put down to swollen glands.

Cue ambulance and emergency appendectomy carried out within half an hour of my being admitted. That was a day to forget remember.

Sunshinegirl82 · 24/02/2020 19:51

I think if she's doubled over in pain despite regular painkillers I'd be taking her back to a&e and wanting her admitted so that they can control her pain until they work out what's going on. Sounds like she's really suffering poor thing, Thursday seems a long time to wait.

It's awful when they're unwell, I hope she feels better soon.

Feelingsolost1 · 24/02/2020 19:59

Thank you all!! I'm going to call 111 and get some advice with them and hopefully they can help. She's chalk white poor girl. I just feel absolutely useless. X

If she's in this much pain now you need to go back to A&E.

My DDad's appendicitis was missed by two GPs, when a third sent him to hospital it still wasn't picked up immediately and when he was finally operated on it had ruptured - he could have easily died and he lost part of his bowel. He had been ill for nearly a week, he was very, very lucky.

Please take her back - you need answers now and she needs pain relief. A phone appointment on Thursday isn't going to give you either - take her back, they need to take you seriously.

And if it's appendicitis (which it might not be) it's an emergency.

elaeocarpus · 24/02/2020 20:02

Distended abdomen + only pooing every few days sounds like constipation . When it gets impacted its painful ( my two suffered chronic issues, longterm medication)

Goodebe · 24/02/2020 20:03

I’m pleased your calling 111, sounds like she needs attention especially with the new symptoms

NewUserNameReq · 24/02/2020 20:06

DH's appendicitis was not recognized until he had already been to the hospital a couple of times and been fobbed off, again pain was on the 'wrong side'. He was told a range of things it might have been including a wheat allergy!

Sunshinegirl82 · 24/02/2020 20:08

Sometimes you do have to keep pushing, you know she's not right so trust your instinct.

It recently took me three attempts to get antibiotics for DS1's ear infection as they kept forcing us to see the practice nurse. Finally insisted we saw the GP who took one look and diagnosed glue ear and ear infections in both ears. Wasn't viral after all it seems!

Nousernameforme · 24/02/2020 20:09

I think the distended tummy would be it getting worse and worth taking her back in tbh. Good luck op hope she gets sorted soon

Duvetdweller · 24/02/2020 20:13

One of mine had similar - taken to hospital with suspected appendicitis. Had xrays and an utrasound. Turns out it was mesenteric adonitis as someone said earlier. Effectively a migraine in your tummy. She suffered really badly on and off for about a year and then it just seemed to disappear and was never mentioned again!

legalseagull · 24/02/2020 20:25

If the pain comes in waves and the stomach is distended I'd say it's digestive issues and wind which can be agony. If her blood work didn't show infection I don't think it'll be her appendix.

Melancholymuffin · 24/02/2020 20:26

Has she been tested for coeliac?

Wallywobbles · 24/02/2020 20:29

Dd has appendicitis which burst due to it being in the middle of her stomach. She has a narrow basin and is a gymnast and they couldn't find it.

FAQs · 24/02/2020 20:33

My daughter has suffered abdominal migraines for years and what you are describing compared to our experience isn't the same

Boopeedoop · 24/02/2020 20:40

Ask them to x-ray her abdomen. My money is on constipation.

Twitney · 24/02/2020 20:41

my appendicitis started in middle/ left as a horrible constant intensely dull (if that makes sense) pain which gradually shifted to the right and became so painful I couldn't lift my right leg. It definitely didn't' start on the right hand side. Hope she's okay.

thehorseandhisboy · 24/02/2020 20:41

I was wondering about digestive issues, coeliac, Crohns, colitis etc.

Two friends had children presenting with similar symptoms and both took a while to get a definitive diagnosis.

May not be, but you're right to keep pushing to get to the bottom of it.

If she can get through the night at home, I would go to A&E in the morning, depending on what 111 say.

Nat6999 · 24/02/2020 20:49

My ds was admitted to hospital age 8 with exactly the same symptoms, his pain got so bad he couldn't bear me to touch him, he looked pregnant. After 8 hours in hospital, they diagnosed chronic constipation, they did an enema & I have never seen so much poo in my life, there seemed to be miles of it, he completely filled the toilet & nearly blocked it up. 20minutes after he had been to the toilet his temperature returned to normal & he was asking for something to eat after not eating for 2 days. If I were you I would take her to A & E , they will be able to diagnose if it is constipation or something else, they can do a scan if need be. If it is constipation & they do an enema, get some pull ups for home as it still keeps on coming for a couple of days, often without warning.

DonKeyshot · 24/02/2020 20:53

Chalk white, distended stomach, doubles up with pain. Why are you still posting here, OP?

Forget 111. Either call 999 for an ambulance or take your dd to your nearest A&E NOW and don't leave until she's had a scan/you have a definitive diagnosis.

mumwon · 24/02/2020 20:54

appendicitis usually you have a temperature & a mix of vomiting & loose stools
I think you need to insist on seeing her poo - to check her poo isn't impacted (severe constipation) she may have been passing little bullets or not passing poo at all. & also checking she hasn't be passing black blood (Melena) if she is constipated she may pass speckles of fresh blood if more than that... well all of this would help you to explain to gp -out of interest what is her diet like & does she drink enough & has she lost any weight

Frogsareawesome · 24/02/2020 20:58

My husband was in hospital for a week with horrendous stomach pains. They ruled out appendicitis several times as it 'wasn't presenting as appendicitis '. They opened him up to look and it was about to burst. No sickness just pain. Either way 111 Flowers

ThelmaDinkley · 24/02/2020 21:11

I would be going to A&E OP. Hope your little one is ok. I had similar with my daughter and they diagnosed IBS. She takes mebeverine now. Very similar symptoms including the distension. I was convinced she had appendicitis. The Dr gave me a good tip; see if she can jump up and down. If it’s appendicitis it’s impossible to do as it rubs and causes pain. Hope you get it sorted for her.

vintanner · 24/02/2020 21:14

Try looking at what she has been eating, has she had something different?

I suffered when I was a child from what turned out to be an allergy to a certain fruit that I had a couple of mornings on my cereal.

As my body digested the food, it caused my 'tubes' to twist which was very painful and I would be folded over unable to stand.

As I didn't eat this every day my body would slowly recover (untwist).

Once I cut this fruit out of my diet, I've never had this happen again.

I hope it is as simple as this, I remember it be in misery for me.

ohtheholidays · 24/02/2020 21:21

With so much pain and now a distended stomach and being so pale I would honestly be going straight to the hospital if it was one of my DC OP.

Your poor little girl really sounds like she needs to be seen and she needs to be seen now.

SpeedofaSloth · 24/02/2020 21:24

It really could be constipation.
