Hi, im looking for some help, my daughter is 7, and has been in a lot of pain in her lower left side of her abdomen. It came on out the blue last Sunday night and has got worse. We have visited the hospital twice and the doctor twice. They have taken bloods but couldn't see an issue. Her tummy hurts when being pressed, urine seems clear. No heavy lifting, not muscle pull or anything. I'm honestly at a loss, pain medication doesn't do much, doctor is going to check which bloods were taken and call me after lunchtime. She's passing poo and wind. This pain leaves her crying, doubled over. Any ideas?? Thanks

Excellent news.
Fingers crossed you start to get some answers and they take you seriously too.

FusionChefGeoff · 25/02/2020 13:33

You (and your cheerleaders on this thread!) are doing an amazing job!! And it's working woo hoo!!

Keep going - glad the cavalry is arriving soon too so YOU can get some support from DH.

Supermum!!

StudentHelp · 25/02/2020 13:35

Hopefully they have a better idea soon

Feelingsolost1 · 25/02/2020 13:37

Aw bless you all. Thanks so much.
I'll update when we have had the scan. X

In the meantime try to find yourself plenty to drink if you can - dehydration won’t help your headache, and hospitals are buggers for being hot and dry and sucking every bit of moisture out of you!

jess3817 · 25/02/2020 13:47

So glad you've managed to get a scan organised for her. Hope you have some answers soon.

BabbleBee · 25/02/2020 13:49

Wishing you lots of luck. I was in a similar situation with my DD a while ago, pain in children is too quickly dismissed in my experience.

OhLookHeKickedTheBall · 25/02/2020 13:55

Glad she's getting an ultrasound. I really hate the she doesn't look ill thing. Had that with my DD and a rampant pussing stinking ear infection. When someone finally swabbed it, they realised it was MRSA and required hospitalisation for specific IV antibiotics. A few close friends have had similar with their DC who turned out to be quite ill actually. My not ill looking DD to them looked awful to everyone who knew her though.

Skierrdery

I have a friend who is genuinely needle phobic and a complete pain in hospital. She wanted me in her pre op assessment.

The nurse was struggling to get a BP (friend's BP crashes when she is near needles) but apparently it was me looking at the numbers that stopped the machine working.

I was tempted to give a lecture on how she wasn't even attempting to line up the transducer but bit my tongue.

OP

I hope they find out what it is soon. Oramorph is wonderful stuff.

My experience with doctors is that you have to be assertive if you know something is wrong. Well done for standing your ground.

Two experiences I had - one where a doctor used a doppler on my tummy at 16 weeks pregnant and told me the heartbeat was fine and I didn't need a scan - the following day a scan confirmed my baby had passed 3 weeks earlier. I still believe a midwife would have found it the first day, not that it would have changed the outcome unfortunately, but would have prevented me from being sent home only to have to come back again. :(

A second with my eldest daughter where I took her to A and E because my GP gave me antibiotic cream three times for a rash which covered the whole of her neck and was oozing pus. Within 30 mins she was in an bed and spent 5 days there with impetigonised excema and needed IV antibiotics to get rid of it.

Hopefully they identify the cause and fix her up as soon as possible for you xx

CakeandCoffeeQueen · 25/02/2020 14:15

Don’t let them push you about, I know it’s hard as it easy to believe drs know best but they don’t always.

I hope she starts to feel better soon

This is so sad but didn’t you hear it yourself?

FizzyIce · 25/02/2020 15:04

Really hope she is ok ,op. It’s awful when our children are ill and we can’t help them .
Glad you stuck to your guns and hope you get answers .
I had a grumbling appendix last year which sounds similar but not as bad as your poor dd .
Good luck Flowers

Goodness.

AriadnesFilament · 25/02/2020 15:33

So what is their plan?

Bitofnamechanging · 25/02/2020 15:34

Are they keeping her in for another night?

Feelingsolost1 · 25/02/2020 15:40

Absolutely no idea at the moment, awaiting the consultant coming to see us again. I've got a feeling we will be discharged to await urine results from the lab which are due tomorrow. Any ideas if they would prescribe us oramorph to take home if we are discharged? X

OP posts:
pussycatinboots · 25/02/2020 15:41

Ask to see the consultant, find out what they've ruled out and what they intend to check for next.

5zeds · 25/02/2020 15:51

I think if she’s in that much pain she should be in not packing morphine, BUT, if she’s had morphine she may find paracetamol on top Is weirdly amazing.

elaeocarpus · 25/02/2020 16:22

Did they look at colon re impaction in the scan? I would ask consultants about this, and if its worth enema or high dose movicol to clear out bowel/rule out constipation as a cause of things

Feelingsolost1 · 25/02/2020 16:34

First time seeing DD a bit perkier after the oramorph. She has colour about her cheeks. Consultant is heading round in the next 30 mins. I'll definitely ask what has been ruled out and if there's anything else he thinks it could be. Thank you all x

DonKeyshot · 25/02/2020 16:35

If your dd is in sufficient pain to require oramorph she should be kept in, OP.

If they intend to discharge her, INSIST on a prescription for Oramorph as you know that nothing else will keep her comfortable and pain free.

Sparklypurpleunicornsaremyfav · 25/02/2020 16:40

My daughter had similar, was back and forth to the Dr's and hospital, scans and bloods for about 4 years. One day we went back and the Dr took one look at her and said she's got colic!!! Who knew a 7 year old could get colic??? Apparently its slightly different to a babies but her intestines go into spasms causing her severe pain. She now takes buscopan as and when needed.
Good luck

Feelingsolost1 · 25/02/2020 16:48

Doctors just come round and has said they can see a blockage of stool impacted. Plan is to get it moving with some laxative. Continuing with pain relief and take it a day at a time. Hoping once it gets moving the pain will calm down. Thank you all so much for your support x
