What 'adult' thing have you never done?

I have reached the grand old age of 53 and have never booked a holiday abroad. I wouldn't even know where to start! and I fancy a holiday but don't know how to do it Holidays have always been in the UK, camping when the DC were young and caravanning for the last 12 years. My last foreign trip was when I was 19 and DM booked it. I just had to give her the money for it.

I have never had a hangover or been drunk, my kids are all mid to late teens now and find it really strange!

LeavingTheTable · 24/02/2020 01:17

Never met a narcissist

Never made a roast chicken last for twelve meals

Never worn Boden

Never earnt six figures

Yambabe · 24/02/2020 01:29

I'm 56. I've never set foot in a bookies or been to a bingo hall.

AhNowTed · 24/02/2020 01:33

Never made a dinner that didn't contain mince.

(DH is the cook)

pinkrocker · 24/02/2020 01:40

Never in 45 years been able to cook a scone that isn't flat (I have tried about 30 recipes, with and without rolling out, with and without baking powder, and tried both S/R and plain flour!) Grin it's just not meant to be...

UpToMyElbowsInDiapers · 24/02/2020 01:45

Filed my own taxes. My dad did them, then my DH. I SWEAR I’m not some 1950s housewife though! 😂

Gingerkittykat · 24/02/2020 01:47

Been on a plane.
Been married.
Bought a house.
Been on a jury.
Watched Star Wars or Star Trek.

sam221 · 24/02/2020 02:04

I have never taken a bin out
I have never cleaned a bathroom/kitchen(as a child never allowed to do any housework, both parents shared tasks amongst themselves. As a adult, I have had cleaners/staff)
I never married
I never had children (but did raise some family children)
I never learnt to drive
I have never had a relationship (was busy building my business&raising children)
I have never been to a festival!
I have never tried drugs of any kind, though have been offered!
Nearly 40 so unlikely to do any of the above.

Whatisthisfuckery · 24/02/2020 02:05

I have:

Got married, had a child, got divorced, bought a house, rented a flat, represented myself in court, installed a washing machine/dishwasher/electric oven/ done loads of DIY, cooked roasts/christmas dinner, been on the telly/radio/in the paper, played a gig, got drunk, took loads of drugs.

I’ve never:

Sold a house, had a credit card, had a loan other than mortgage, held a dinner party, had an ONS, done wallpapering, done any driving or car stuff because I can’t see to drive, done any beauty stuff because just not into all that jazz.

tobee · 24/02/2020 03:18

Never used female contraception, had a one night stand or been a bridesmaid.

I've consciously made myself do diy type and financial responsible things because I'm not naturally confident to do so, but felt that was childish of me.

Interested to see people who've not been on trains or buses etc just because it makes me wonder where they live or what they do instead.

BritWifeinUSA · 24/02/2020 03:39

Had a baby.
Done the decorating.
Shampooed a carpet.
Stuffed a turkey.

Stronger76 · 24/02/2020 05:45

Never cooked a live lobster
Never smoked or done drugs
Never drank coffee
Never been to a music festival.
Never had a threesome

Other than that I've done everything else on this thread. How the fuck have some of you got to your age without doing the simplest of tasks - and I'm talking changing a light bulb type stuff. Pp who said mummy did her switching utilities - why on earth haven't you learned to take on this financial responsibility?

I'm not rich so most of the things I've done are because I can't afford to pay someone (decorating, car maintenance, gardening, flat pack, cooking real food) but lots of the others are because I've been a single parent, determined and scrimped and saved (holidays abroad, flown a plane etc). I can't imagine being so beholden to other folk and so helpless/useless at basic 'adulting'

MadameLeFunky · 24/02/2020 06:52

Never had children so no nappies, parents evenings etc for me

Never had a filling or any dental work. This is not good as I've just been lucky and one day will need something - fills me with dread.

ButterbuttSquash · 24/02/2020 08:21

Oh! I thought this said EVER done. Stupid me.

Never driven a car.

Pringlesonthetable · 24/02/2020 09:18

Decided a long time ago being an adult was a con. Grin There are more that others have mentioned. I do function on a day to day basis. I'm responsible for finances- the bills get paid.

WeirdAndScary · 24/02/2020 09:23

I have never done any DIY. This is not through lack of willingness but my DH is a builder so he tends to do it. Also he is very protective of his work tools so I doubt he would be comfortable letting me near them! (I am notoriously clumsy)

Other then that, I've done lots of boring adult things. Often resentfully if I'm honest.

Darbs76 · 24/02/2020 09:25

Never got married, pretty much done everything else listed here

AndNoneForGretchenWieners · 24/02/2020 09:31

Passed my driving test (unlikely to now I've had my licence revoked on medical grounds)

Had a one night stand (married my second boyfriend!)

I have had to do more adult stuff since being widowed, like sorting out a mortgage, insurance, running a house solo, arranging his funeral. I don't recommend it, adulting is difficult.

I don't know how to pump the tyres on my car, this has caused much laughter among new dp and his friends who all are keen on fixing vehicles. I've never painted a wall either, exh liked doing it or we paid someone.

Tigresswoods · 24/02/2020 09:37

I'm baffled how people have never been on trains?

Sammi38 · 24/02/2020 09:39

Cooked a roast dinner
Changed a tyre
Driven abroad
Hung a picture.

okiedokieme · 24/02/2020 09:39

Have done everything else though, I'm actually finding it hard to relinquish being 100% responsible for all paperwork, bookings, decisions etc exh left all life admin to me, actually sharing it now with dp

ItIsWhatItIsInnit · 24/02/2020 09:40

I'm baffled how people have never been on trains?

Me too - I started taking one to school when I went to secondary. I was at the station the other day and some girl who looked about 18 asked where the train was going, as she'd never been on one! I was so shocked - wondering how she'd got to that age and never done it. Parents drove everywhere I suppose!

I've always lived about half an hour away from London and have friends/days out there, so even if not commuting, there's just no way you'd drive into London.

I was so reliant on public transport I only passed my driving test at 25.

JustInCaseCakeHappens · 24/02/2020 09:40

I know we all have different lives and different circumstances, but I am baffled by some of the things people have never done.

On a practical note, I honestly don't understand how it's even possible.
