What 'adult' thing have you never done?

I have reached the grand old age of 53 and have never booked a holiday abroad. I wouldn't even know where to start! and I fancy a holiday but don't know how to do it Holidays have always been in the UK, camping when the DC were young and caravanning for the last 12 years. My last foreign trip was when I was 19 and DM booked it. I just had to give her the money for it.

You're my people, IronShame. Grin

Bluerussian · 23/02/2020 23:33

At 70, I've never broken a bone, that isn't an adult thing though, can happen at any age. There's still time I suppose :-), horrible thought.

Murinae · 23/02/2020 23:34

Drank alcohol

MayDayHelp · 23/02/2020 23:35

Man I suck at adulting.

Never got married.
Never bought a house.
Don’t have a pension.
Don’t have a career, still don’t know what I want to do when I grow up.

I’m 39.

Tillygetsit · 23/02/2020 23:44

Never got a driving licence. Never got a spray tan or waxed. Never gutted a fish. Never put together flat pack furniture.

Daffodil55 · 23/02/2020 23:47

I have never smoked a cigarette and proud to announce that.

I have never learned to swim and know I never will. I have never made bread or changed a tyre and never will. I have not read War and Peace and never will.

Never watched the Sound of Music and never will. I have sadly never been to a Shirley Bassey concert and probably never will and time is running out (for her) but console myself because I have been to several Tom Jones live shows and he is the man!

ButterbuttSquash · 23/02/2020 23:50

Had a nervous breakdown.

Coolcucumber2020 · 23/02/2020 23:57

Gosh I think I’ve done all the adult things!

Graphista · 23/02/2020 23:59

Bought a house. Probably never will

“Taken a car loan or payment plan.” Always bought bangers for cash. But I am thinking of leasing one IF I can break my housebound streak.

Never travelled outside of Europe. I’ve visited and even lived in several European countries but not managed to get outside Europe yet. Hoping to in next few years.

No tattoos which is pretty unusual now - even my 70 something mum has 2!

Ridden a motorbike

“I act like my Nanna with a smartphone.” 😂 great analogy!!

Never placed a bet in a betting shop but I’ve played bingo and the lottery occasionally

Stayed in a job more than a year (at brat then army wife then after that moved on in order to progress)

Never taken street drugs - I don’t think this one is as unusual as is sometimes claimed never smoked a cigarette either.

I’ve done most of the other things listed at least once so I’m not unadventurous. Mainly Ltd by finances.

Jossina · 24/02/2020 00:03

It seems there might need to be two categories here. What adult thing have you never done and How rich/pampered are you?

PixieRabbit · 24/02/2020 00:10

I have never:

Been married
Had kids
Owned property
Got A levels or beyond
Had a credit card or a bank loan
Owned a car
Worn a suit
Had any waxing done
Had a professional career

Toseland · 24/02/2020 00:13

Never seen Coronation Street
Never made a Christmas cake
I don’t do DiY
I’ve often felt quite bad for not doing these things so it’s nice to come clean.

AlexCrowe84 · 24/02/2020 00:23

Never had a one night stand.
3 serious relationships only (I'm 35, been with my current DP for just over 11yrs)

Part of me feels I've missed out...

OhTheRoses · 24/02/2020 00:27

Have never waxed, taken recreational drugs, camped, ridden a motorbike, been unemployed, worn 2nd hand clothes, or been skint.

Daffodil55 · 24/02/2020 00:39

Just before I sign off and go to bed, despite the things I stated I have never done as an adult, I should inform you I HAVE done some adult things which I will never admit to.

Another thread, another day. evil larrrrf

Daffodil55 · 24/02/2020 00:41

P.S. I have never sat on a camel but have sat on some other things much more attractive than the above. Another evil lafffffff

louderthan1 · 24/02/2020 00:47

Never learned to drive
Never had kids
Never made pastry
Never lived alone
Never had insurance
Never had a mortgage
Never been married

ItIsWhatItIsInnit · 24/02/2020 00:51

Never had a credit card or debt.
Never cooked a roast dinner (I hate them)

ItIsWhatItIsInnit · 24/02/2020 00:53

Oh and I've never seen Star Wars, Game of Thrones or any James Bond film.

IdblowJonSnow · 24/02/2020 00:56

Managed to stay in same job for more than five years. Never learnt more than 23k.
Never paid off student debts!
44 now.

ItIsWhatItIsInnit · 24/02/2020 01:00

How have people functioned without a credit card? How do you shop? Surely not everything is bought on debit card?

1)Easily
2)With a debit card or Paypal
3)Yes

Bought 100s of things online, never been scammed yet. Also even if I was, I stick half my salary straight into savings every month and have no overdraft. Rent goes out. So they wouldn't be able to nick much anyway.

ItIsWhatItIsInnit · 24/02/2020 01:04

Oh, here's a good one, I've never been on any female contraception! Only ever used condoms. 26 and been with husband for 4 years. No pregnancies so far.

maa1992 · 24/02/2020 01:09

Married
Bought a house
Had a baby (through ivf, pretty adulty)

However, I'm 27 and too scared to drive on the motorway

Also cry like baby when I vomit.

ineedaholidaynow · 24/02/2020 01:10

Never smoked (not even tried a cigarette)
Don’t drink tea or coffee
Never driven through a car wash
Never driven on the M25
Never wallpapered
Never made any curtains/clothes
Never drunk gin
Never opened champagne bottle
Never put shelves up or any DIY really
Have practiced changing a tyre (DF showed me how to when I got my first car) but never done it in real life situation, always called the AA, garage etc
Never cut anyone’s hair
Never cut DS’s nails (had to get DH to do it, was scared I would cut his fingers)

DH and I often ask each other when we will grow up enough to do all the practical things our parents did, we are in our 40s/50s. However, I think it is easier and we probably have more disposable income to get someone else to do it now.

However, looking at some other people’s lists on here I am not too bad.

sashh · 24/02/2020 01:15

Never been on a package holiday, even as a child.

Never had a mortgage.

Changed a nappy.
