To think most people dislike sex scenes in films?

Judging by the comments there seems most (women?) would find film-watching much more comfortable without the sex scenes. I know I would!

So let’s have a vote.
YANBU = Prefer no sex scenes
YABU= Love them

Kind of need an option somewhere in the middle! A lot of them are unnecessary, some are lovely.

Most sex scenes are completely unnecessary and ridiculous. In some movies they're integral to the story and handled well (e.g. if it shows a side to a character or a behaviour that's relevant) but it's rare. So most of them are a waste of film time.

I hate sex scenes on tv and in films they just make me cringe. Sensual scenes with clothes people no problem but grinding hips and sex noises and porn style sex is just awful to watch comfortably with other people. DH calls me a prude and maybe I am but it’s my opinion and I’m allowed it. I swear my kids put stuff on just to watch me squirm.

I ff them most of the time. They’re unnecessary imo. 50 shades of grey trilogy went rather quickly with my method 😂

I made the mistake of watching How to get away with murder on netflix at my mums house, a proper binge fest, every time my mother walked into the front room, there was another random sex scene. It almost became comical.

I think it's enough to allude that they are having sex as opposed to actually showing it. I hate it

It’s the mad , passionate, up against a wall ones that I don’t like. I also don’t like watching slobbery snogging.

For me it’s like toilet scenes. You know people shit but just allude to it, I don’t need to see the detail.

A good, necessary to the plot sex scene can be great. But there's not much worse than a bad sex scene. Difficult one to vote on.

Agree. Not necessary either. Just get on with the plot! I fast forward!

I hate it, but I have teenagers and we are all just squirming with embarrassment at sex scenes. Don't the producers/directors realise that sometimes film watching is cross generational?! We don't only watch them with friends and partners.

I was rather bemused by the other thread. They don’t bother me in the slightest and I’ve never felt uncomfortable watching a film with parents/in-laws/friends. I don’t know anyone who would fast forward or make a big song and dance about it being time for a cuppa

Have always hated sex scenes, there is just no need imho.

Doesn’t mean a film can’t still be “sexy” either. Some of the “hottest” scenes in movies are the old ones where they didn’t show full sex on screen. The old b&w film noir movies etc.

There is also a fantastic scene in It’s A Wonderful Life where George and Mary (is it??) are both on the phone to an old friend and they can’t stop kissing each other. It is sooooo hot.

I find them boring and often a bit cringey. As mentioned on the other thread, in the wrong company they can be very embarrassing.

I don't really see a need for them, unless the film overall is setting out to be 'erotic' with sex as a main theme. I prefer the approach where they show the characters embracing or whatever, then cut to them in bed after the sex, so it's clear they've shagged but we are spared the step-by-step details.

Er, depends. The scene between Rachel mcAdams and Rachel Weisz in Disobedience is super sexy, not to mention crucial to the whole film... without it the whole thing would fall down.

Wow I’m surprised at the result so far. I either like, or don’t mind them. Although many are cringeworthy and then I just laugh.

I do think subtlety can be sexier than more obvious stuff though.

Surely it depends on the TV show/film?

Some of the sex scenes in Looking are really nice and necessary to the plot, others not so much.

I don't mind them but it does depend on the film and the actors. Some actors kissing and getting it on turns my stomach but most are fine.

I agree. Time and a place for everything. If you want to see sex, there's porn hub. Doesn't need to pop up in films.

They are usually not at all sexy
And also usually seem to be an excuse to show a woman with her top off/ or bum
The focus in mainstream films is generally on the woman's body

I'd guess that subconsciously women realise this, that it's not really been filmed for them, but for male viewers. And also that fewer men on a similar thread would say they weren't keen on sex scenes in films! Maybe if the sex scenes always included more lingering shots of male body and with a bit of dick to look at, it would be different. They are rarely filmed like that though...

Also hate that scenes of sexual violence are so often shot lingering on the woman's body and sexualising the situation.
