Inspired by the fast forwarding thread! Grin

Judging by the comments there seems most (women?) would find film-watching much more comfortable without the sex scenes. I know I would!

So let’s have a vote.
YANBU = Prefer no sex scenes
YABU= Love them

I really like Power but the early seasons were ridiculous for sex scenes. They also did that thing of “let’s have several scenes in a strip club so we can see naked women writhing around in the background.”

Contrast Carlito’s Way where there was a similar scene but the character unexpectedly encountering his ex in a strip club was a direct part of the story.

Sex scenes just to keep the male watcher interested are boring as hell.

Whichoneofyoudidthat · 23/02/2020 07:04

I fast forward through them if I can.

I also fast forward the car chase scenes. I find both to be incredibly boring.

eurochick · 23/02/2020 07:09

I don't like them. They are just a bit pointless and cringey. I also fight fight scenes tedious.

It'd be interesting to see the responses on a male dominated forum. I bet it would be very different, showing the inherent sexism of the film industry.

It annoys me that the woman is always writhing around on top looking super sexy, which i assume is because most dramas/movies are directed by men

contentedsoul · 23/02/2020 08:11

Totally agree (I'm male)
I find it uncomfortable to watch especially if our son is in the room....and also it demeans in my view. It's always the women, that strips, shows cleaverage, thigh...why!
But not just films, I note the local News often has glamorous female readers then an old dinosaur sat next to her, same goes for the weather, TV shows, adverts.
There is no need.

Same goes for the bikini clad model selling tyres, exhausts, fucking silicone sealant...I mean FFS.
Just because we have testicles...doesn't mean they sit between our ears. I just switch over, walk off or whatever. I don't need to be reminded constantly that humans need to replicate.

Interesting that a PP mentioned Buffy. There are a couple there that I would argue are integral to the storyline - the one where Buffy loses her virginity and Angel loses his soul. They have to show what they do because we then realise how tender the actual moment is and how brutally Angelus reframes it when he's taunting her the next day.

In Season 6, we see how Buffy and Spike merge violence and sex, and how unhealthy their relationship ultimately is for both of them. Without the sex scene where they literally bring the house down, the power of that would be lost.

ApplesinmyPocket · 23/02/2020 10:02

I have no interest in watching other people have sex.

Long sucky lip-smacking kissing scenes are also 'reach for my phone and check twitter' time.

Growingboys · 23/02/2020 10:03

I hate sex scenes. I don't want to watch other people have sex!

motherheroic · 23/02/2020 10:36

I don't 🤷🏾‍♀️

HomerDancing · 23/02/2020 11:03

Hate them!! So unnecessary, I think it's enough to allude to what's s happening next with the characters without showing it.

Must be really awkward and embarrassing to film as well!

ferrier · 23/02/2020 11:11

I like them .... if done well, integral to the story, preferably not too male oriented.
