Tyson Fury's sons' names

lynsey91 · 21/02/2020 17:47

I have vaguely heard of Tyson Fury but today I read an article about him in The Mail (I know!). He has 5 children and 3 are boys all named Prince!

I mean how can they all have the same name? I assume they have nicknames at home but even so what is the point of naming them all the same. It's just totally weird and really seems rather stupid

OP posts:
myplateisfullenoughthanks · 23/02/2020 20:44

Atonement and forgiveness

ScarlettBlaize · 23/02/2020 20:48

?? He has never apologised for or retracted any of those comments

Cauliflowerpower · 23/02/2020 20:56

My colleague knows a man with x3 sets of boy girl twins (with two different mums) ALL called Clement and Clementine ....

They are from a culture that have different day to day names but legally all tbe same!!!!

annamie · 23/02/2020 21:25

He sounds awful. How is he allowed to fight?!

HerRoyalFattyness · 23/02/2020 21:29

to be fair, he did apologise

derxa · 23/02/2020 21:30

He's a boxer not Mother Theresa. I don't condone what he said but what do you expect. I don't hold with sports people being 'role models'. It's nonsensical.

GrumpyHoonMain · 23/02/2020 21:35

In the Philippines it used to be the case that all women were named Maria and then referred to by their middle names. Same in Bangladesh - all men called Mohammed (often shortened) and then a middle name.

Holyfork · 23/02/2020 21:36

'I'm sorry if you were offended' is the biggest non-apology ever.

I don't hold with sports people being 'role models'.

Well maybe he shouldn't claim that he is a role model then.

derxa · 23/02/2020 21:45

Well maybe he shouldn't claim that he is a role model then. Does he?

annamie · 23/02/2020 21:47

Wow have lost respect fo some posters in this thread. Never apologise for racists.

derxa · 23/02/2020 21:49

Never apologise for racists. I don't apologise for him.

HerRoyalFattyness · 23/02/2020 21:51

Not did I. Just pointed out that he has in fact apologised. It may not be a good one, but he did.

derxa · 23/02/2020 21:51

My favourite sports person is Andy Murray who has been a wonderful 'role model' but I don't think he should be one.

Bagofoldbones · 23/02/2020 21:59

It’s the culture he was brought up in. He left school very early and isn’t highly educated. Travellers really do live in their own bubble. He will be learning now that you can’t say stuff like that anymore. He is and will be a role model to travellers in years to come. He probably won’t renounce his views because they have been ingrained in to him since birth - but his kids continuing education will learn that’s not the right way. He will set the precedent for traveller children to stay in school and learn new views.

You honestly believe most men over 40 believe the best place for a women isn’t on her back and in the kitchen - especially Manchester Dignitaries... they just know never to say it in public.

Beansandcoffee · 23/02/2020 22:07

@Bagofoldbones - I agree with you regarding his comment about the best place for a woman. Group of us discussed this down the pub last night. All of the men said they thought it was a joke and They would say it within their male groups but knew not to say it in front of women.

Clawdy · 23/02/2020 22:30

Looks as if there may not be a celebration parade in Manchester for his homecoming, as would be the norm after such a victory. He certainly doesn't deserve one.

Bagofoldbones · 23/02/2020 22:36

Yes he does Clawdy he is the heavy weight champion of the world. He’s battled serious mental heath and got back on top. He has a huge following in Manchester.

Anychance123 · 23/02/2020 22:37

I didn’t know anything about him until I watched the documentary, I thought he seemed a lovely guy and I liked what he did with the lobsters. I’m disappointed to hear his views on here though, I hope in future he becomes a better role model and publicly takes a stand against some of his older views, that’s if he has really changed his mind.

conduitoffortune · 23/02/2020 22:55

The ridiculous posters bigging the man up on here would not feel the same way if Colin the plumber spouted all this racist, homophobic, sexist shit in the local pub. They wouldn't feel the same way if their daughters married a man who expected her to be on her back or in the kitchen. Or pressured her to have an abortion. If they read about a man like this on the relationship threads they would be saying LTB. Suppose they think it's excusable though because he's famous.

Holyfork · 23/02/2020 22:55

Champion or not, I don't see why Manchester City Council should have to pay to throw a parade for a rampant misogynist.

Bagofoldbones · 23/02/2020 23:42

Holyfork why not they do for plenty others.

I suppose anyone from the majority of the catholic religion should never be recognised either or any one one else who’s from a religion that advocates his views.

Or any one in the the Labour Party.

Bloody hell who does that leave us with???

It’s not because he is a Gypsy is it??

LoseLooseLucy · 24/02/2020 00:44

Or pressured her to have an abortion.

Where on earth is that accusation from?

It’s not because he is a Gypsy is it??

Hmm, maybe that poster has been posting on the current Traveller thread... 🤔

ScarlettBlaize · 24/02/2020 08:54

@HerRoyalFattyness

THIS is what he actually said. It's not in any sense a true apology or retraction of his comments:

"I apologise to anyone who may have taken offence at any of my comments," Fury said in a statement. "I said some things, which may have hurt some people, which as a Christian man is not something I would ever want to do.

"Though it is not an excuse, sometimes the heightened media scrutiny has caused me to act out in public. I mean no harm or disrespect to anyone and I know more is expected of me as an ambassador of British boxing and I promise in future to hold myself up to the highest possible standard.

"Anyone who knows me personally knows that I am in no way a racist or bigot and I hope the public accept this apology."

Nothing in that non-apology does anything to actually address or retract his comments about women, Jews, or homosexuals.

Shookethtothecore · 24/02/2020 09:03

It’s his culture to name them like that, lots of other cultures do. I’m currently watching his documentary (itv you should watch it it’s interesting) and he calls himself a “president setter” And talks about educating his children and sending them to school- his wife is more set in traveller culture and doesn’t want to educate his children, he was saying if he educated his children then other travellers would change their thinking. I like him- I think he’s a good bloke and the documentary shows him and his family in a good light
