Tyson Fury's sons' names

lynsey91 · 21/02/2020 17:47

I have vaguely heard of Tyson Fury but today I read an article about him in The Mail (I know!). He has 5 children and 3 are boys all named Prince!

I mean how can they all have the same name? I assume they have nicknames at home but even so what is the point of naming them all the same. It's just totally weird and really seems rather stupid

I think the boys names are unusual, but Given Tyson's circumstances, I'd be surprised if they were Mike, Dave and Steve. The Beckham children all have ridiculous names, Beyonce, Gwyneth Paltrow etc. have all been just as weird. At the local comprehensive as the son of Jim the IT consultant the names would be daft, but in a traveller community with your dad as heavyweight champion of the world, a pretty out there name is probably par for the course.

I am a massive fan of Tyson, what he has come through and achieved defies logic. But he's made some pretty nasty statements in the past. I don't think we can carry on using culture and upbringing as an excuse for misogyny, homophobia, and racism, whether that upbringing be traveller, any particular class or any ethnicity, nationality or religion. Pulling girls out of school, FGM, abuse etc. have no place any more, regardless of your culture.

Holyfork · 24/02/2020 13:17

I suppose anyone from the majority of the catholic religion should never be recognised either or any one one else who’s from a religion that advocates his views.

If they are known to keep making sexist, anti-Semitic and homophobic statements then yes.

Apparently the parade is 'on hold'.

HJWT · 08/03/2020 03:52

@ScarlettBlaize Actually it was cocaine mainly.

Until you meet a gypsy man and realise how they are brought up you all could never understand!

My DH has seen some absolutely awful things from a very young age that completely messed up his mental state and he is very much like Tyson mentally!

Its not any excuse for the stupid comments he has made in the past but you can't blame a person for there beliefs you blame the parents! And as for the women in the kitchen comments Paris can sure put him in his place when she wants to so all that crap needs to be taken with a pinch of salt!

Allaboardthemagicbus2020 · 08/03/2020 04:06

@hjwt

You mean the upbringing causes the problems? Or that when there is a problem the male culture doesn’t allow them to acknowledge it?

I think traveller men have a very high suicide rate? There has to be more we can do as a society there. It’s shocking and wouldn’t be tolerated with any other group.

squeekums · 08/03/2020 04:31

He's a boxer not Mother Theresa

MT is no standard to hold people too.
She was a nasty woman
allthatsinteresting.com/mother-teresa-saint

Id even say TF is a much better person than MT

Yousicktwistedfruit · 08/03/2020 06:04

Him and his wife are both gypsies and they do have unusual names also his sons have other names that they can go by not just Prince they are called Prince John James, Prince Tyson Fury II and Prince Adonis Amaziah and his reasoning behind it is that he’s the king and they are prince’s and will earn their rightful names. Maybe try reading up on him instead of criticising him and his wife over their choices that have zero affect on your life.

Ponoka7 · 08/03/2020 09:02

"I know his views were influenced by his upbringing as are most people with extreme racism, sexism and homophobic views."

Or people who follow certain religions. This is what their holy book tells them. The countries that allow child rape victims and torture/execute for not following their traditional ender roles, we spend money in them, trade goods, give them aid and allow immigration from them.

Lets not pretend we all don't do a level of condoning such views.

His issue is that unlike many, he's too honest.

He's worth £100 million, enough for his Sons to change their names, if they wish to and go through University many times. Or set a few businesses up. Unlike the stupid names suggested across the baby name threads.

Shittodayshottomorrow · 08/03/2020 09:18

What a nasty thread to start.
Get over yourself and find something nice to do instead of throwing stones at others.

HJWT · 08/03/2020 09:22

@Allaboardthemagicbus2020 BOTH! My DH has very bad mental health but his parents hardly acknowledge it, if it wasn't for me and our children he would not be here today!

Gypsy men are not allowed to show fear or be vulnerable 🤷🏻‍♀️ hopefully things will change in time!

bamboo0 · 08/03/2020 14:07

I have no interest in boxing at all but I did watch the programmes about him. Whilst I don't agree with all aspects of the gypsy culture I thought he came across quite well. I don't think those boys of his will be affected negatively by all being called prince.

Geoffreythecat · 08/03/2020 14:19

you can't blame a person for there beliefs you blame the parents!

Following that to its logical conclusion, nothing is ever anyone's responsibility, his parents could blame theirs ad infinitum. He is an adult man of independent means. His views are his own. They may not be unusual in his community, but it's not like he's trapped and has no access to different ways of thinking. He could use his talent to help change things.

Allaboardthemagicbus2020 · 08/03/2020 14:33

@HJWT

What can we do? I know boxing is a discipline for many but I hate seeing them being hit for money. I think it is a dehumanising sport.

I wish we could think of something to provide for those men that gives them some space and recognition of their selves separate to their role in the way other men in society have.

Same for the way our culture views builders/labourers. Those men are treated as though they are only valuable for their muscle and I think they start to see themselves that way too. It’s too much pressure on them especially as they get older. They need to have some gentleness.

He's a grown man, responsible for his own actions. And as for his wife, he has previously said that she shouldn't get an opinion and that her only job is to cook and clean for him.

metro.co.uk/2015/12/20/tyson-furys-wife-wont-be-attending-sports-personality-of-the-year-awards-because-shes-chained-to-the-bed-5577140/

The 27-year-old pulled off one of the greatest scalps in recent boxing history when he defeated Wladimir Klitschko last month to become heavyweight champion but the glory of his win has been blighted by a series of homophobic and sexist comments. The Mancunian’s victory earned him a place among the nominees for tonight’s Sports Personality of the Year award but there’s been strong calls for that nomination to be revoked in light of Fury’s comments. And, ahead of tonight’s ceremony in Belfast, Fury has risked causing further anger in a radio interview this morning by by claiming his wife won’t be able to make the event because she’s ‘got the chicken roast on’.

LBC presenter Beverly Turner joked along at first and asked if Fury had his wife ‘chained to the sink at home?’ Fury then replied; ‘No, she’s not chained to the sink, she’s chained to the bed. Handcuffed.’ When Fury was asked what his partner made of the controversy over his recent comments, the boxer replied; ‘Why should she have an opinion?’

What a charmer. Real family man.

HighNetGirth · 09/03/2020 16:40

I follow boxing and I remember the furore over Fury’s comments at the time.
It is worse than people think. He did a long video interview with a well regarded sports journalist who reported Fury’s views. When there was a strongly negative reaction Fury first denied saying those things and tried to drop the journalist in it. It was only when the full video was posted online that he conceded that actually, the quotations were accurate and issued his non-apology.
His views are absolutely dreadful and predate his mental health crisis by some time.
