When I got home from work husband had pain in his lower right chest/upper abdomen and was struggling to breathe in properly. He kept telling me he was fine and he’d just got very cold on his cycle home from work (it’s about 45 mins-an hour in all weathers so not entirely inconceivable) and would be fine once he warmed up. I put it down to an intercostal muscle sprain or maybe a virus. Before bed I checked his temperature and it was 37.8 so again, I assumed viral infection. Kept telling me he was fine 🙄

We tried to get an early night at about 8.45 as we were both shattered. He’s been lying next to me with really laboured/irregular breathing, whimpering. He’s now got aching/pulsating hips/bum/legs. His temp is 38.3. He just asked me to check the colour of his legs ‘because they feel like they are rotting away’. I’m assuming he’s a bit feverish?! They look normal! I’ve given him some paracetamol but he’s point blank refusing to come out from under the duvet or take off his pjs. He was complaining that he hadn’t been able to poo today earlier (very unusual for him).

He’s an endurance athlete and used to a fresh kind of hell when it comes to suffering so I’m inclined to think whatever this is must be pretty awful to have floored him like this. I have no idea whether he’s about to drop down dead or if he’s being a bit dramatic.

Hope he's ok OP Sad

This sounds very similar to my husband. Drs diagnosed a virus. Turned out that it was Sepsis. He nearly died and ended up in a coma on a life support machine. Please Google sepsis. It can mask itself as flu or gastroenteritis. Check that he is urinating etc. Also ring 111 for advice and ask whether it could be sepsis. My husband's developed quickly from a simple sore throat. Just have it in mind as a possibility and watch for any deterioration.

Wigglewaggle01 · 21/02/2020 11:34

I hope everything this ok OP Flowers

partofthepeanutgallery · 21/02/2020 11:36

I seriously hope you went to A&E with those symptoms, possibly via ambulance!

Lhia29 · 21/02/2020 11:36

The year is 2039. Op never returned. The thread is 8890 pages long, all messages consisting of 'hope he's OK op, any news?'

On a serious note op I hope it wasnt sepsis and that he's fine now Flowers

Ilovemypantry · 21/02/2020 11:48

Hopefully OP will come back soon and give everyone an update.

Shinesweetfreedom · 21/02/2020 11:49

Justaboy
Thank you for the links to Sepsis.
It is really scary how many are falling victim to sepsis when it was virtually unheard of until recent years.
Had a friend die of it nearly 5 years ago,and shocked how many cases now.

TiddlestheCat · 21/02/2020 11:57

@Justaboy

Well said. I failed to realise just how ill my husband was. I thought that he had a bad case of the flu. I wholly agree that people don't always want to call 999. And Mumsnet can be a really useful source in obtaining a second opinion (after seeking medical advice) as many posters have real experience of conditions. For example, two nurses and 111 misdiagnosed my husband. My husband and I now work with The Sepsis trust helping raise awareness amongst healthcare professionals. These are also many drs and nurses on here who give a second opinion.

@GreytExpectations

Please don't be so unkind/judgemental to someone going a potentially difficult/worrying time.

Hope he’s doing okay Flowers

itsgettingweird · 21/02/2020 12:40

To be fair to op I don't think she was actually suggesting the man route.

If you read her opening post she is worried and it's her DH who is insisting he is fine.

Knittedfairies · 21/02/2020 13:19

Thank you @Justaboy. Hope is well, OP.

Vanhi · 21/02/2020 13:44

Those of you criticising the OP, do bear in mind that sometimes you actually want someone to say 'don't be daft, it's just a virus'. No-one really wants to think 'oh hell, this is serious, I think I need to call an ambulance' and often in these cases there is some denial and fear at work.

thaegumathteth · 21/02/2020 14:13

Can't believe people are having a go at OP. It might not be the best phrase to use but is this really the time? (Hint: it isn't)

Sometimes being right needs to play second fiddle to being a decent compassionate human being.

I hope your husband is ok OP. It's difficult to know sometimes and I think self preservation makes you question if it really could be that serious. I had sepsis twice and the first time I waited hours when I shouldn't have. It's not easy.

Vanhi · 21/02/2020 14:33

Sometimes being right needs to play second fiddle to being a decent compassionate human being.

Amen to that. When someone is frightened and makes a mistake, berating them is neither helpful nor kind.

HaveeeeYouMetTed · 21/02/2020 15:06

Really hope your husband (& yourself) are OK OP.

ilikefastcars · 21/02/2020 16:16

Any news today op?
Hope you got husband checked out x

TiddlestheCat · 21/02/2020 16:37

OP, just to say that if it is Sepsis, do feel free to message me if you need any additional support or advice. X

Newschapter · 21/02/2020 16:51

I hope everything is ok. I'm sure you and he were terrified.

Thefaceofboe · 21/02/2020 17:06

Why the hell would you tell him to man up?

olympicsrock · 21/02/2020 17:21

Hope you are ok. Sounds like sepsis you me - I’m a doctor and would say A and E to this story

marthadearr · 21/02/2020 17:28

GPs are useless. We rent in Luton and apparently they are really bad here.

Hollywolly1 · 21/02/2020 17:51

I sending your husband a speedy recovery and Flowersfor you both
