www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-8022887/Home-Secretary-Priti-Patel-accused-bullying-creating-atmosphere-fear.html

Daily Mail link, but I'm listening to it on BBC Radio 5. It sounds as if Priti Patel is facing lots of complaints because of the way she treats people. Combine that with her politics, and she just doesn't come across very pleasantly. Can she last in her job treating people like this (assuming it is true).

A friend of mine has had to spend a considerable amount of time with Ms Patel.

She is indeed nasty, apparently. Also widely considered to be thick and incompetent.

And likes to decorate places with large photographs of herself Grin

CrimsonCattery · 20/02/2020 17:28

She is the worst of all worlds. Thick, incompetent, unempathetic, unimaginative, cruel and a liar who takes no responsibility for her actions. And now very powerful.

However I remember all the discussion about John Bercow being a bully and Gordon Brown throwing things and having tantrums. So not just women are criticised for this although they do tend to be more so.

The80sweregreat · 20/02/2020 17:35

Gordon Brown was also hard to work with ( so I read once ) and I'm sure many more male politicians are the same.
My MP is a well known 'ERG ' member and he appears in the conservative club demanding free drinks apparently! ( friend of a friend works there) he is an arrogant one and not nice to work for too so I've heard.
I bet all that power and money addles their brains.

Lordfrontpaw · 20/02/2020 17:39

I would have the impression the brown was a nitpicky perfectionist who would make you work until 7pm on Christmas Eve because there was earl to be done. I never got the impression he was nasty. But I’ve never met him either.

Roussette · 20/02/2020 17:42

Downing Street were saying how nice John Major was compared to Tony Blair

We met John Major and he was lovely. This was in Cornwall on holiday and my DD offered him a bite of her cornish pasty Grin

LadyMadderRose · 20/02/2020 17:44

I like John Major too and he was an adulterer. (Though that's not as bad as the Iraq war...) I like it when he pops up and weighs in.

The80sweregreat · 20/02/2020 17:57

I didn't know John M was adulterous ! Mind you I had my hands full bringing up kids in the 90 s so I wasn't that into politics ( no Internet available either)

MurrayTheMonk · 20/02/2020 18:00

I care less that she is unpleasant than the fact the seems to be utterly stupid. She talks literal nonsense at times. I heard her interviewed on the radio yesterday and at one point she was just saying words-they didn't mean anything at all as a sentence.

However I also think some of her views are deeply unpleasant.

Alsohuman · 20/02/2020 18:00

Anyone who thinks the death penalty is a good idea should be a million miles from government, she’s a vile piece of work.

Major used to be my MP, he was a great constituency MP and one of the nicest men ever.

4amWitchingHour · 20/02/2020 18:05

It isn't her job to be nice. It's her job to do her job well.

Part of her job is forming a productive working relationship with the Permanent Secretary of her department. She's clearly failing there. You don't get to say "it's just not the right fit" at that level.

LadyMadderRose · 20/02/2020 18:06

Oh no The80sweregreat (yes they were weren't they!) - I had a panic then that I'd slandered him, but have double-checked. Edwina Currie sensationally revealed they'd had a long and saucy affair when she published her diaries later. As I recall it made him go up in people's estimation and be seen in a new light but it was still cheating on his poor wife.

MurrayTheMonk · 20/02/2020 18:06

The80'sweregreat-John Major had an affair with Edwina Curry!

HelgaHere1 · 20/02/2020 18:10

Blooming heck - I def think the death penalty would be a good idea for eg serial paedophles.

Alsohuman · 20/02/2020 18:11

Wtf @HelgaHere1??

MinisterforCheekyFuckery · 20/02/2020 18:12

Can she last in her job treating people like this

I highly doubt that treating people with fairness and compassion is viewed as a requirement for being in Boris Johnson's cabinet. In fact I imagine it would hold her back considerably if she suddenly developed a moral compass overnight. I don't imagine the fact that she's widely considered to be incompetent and a proven liar will be much of a hindrance either, she and the PM have a great deal in common.

LeMaFe · 20/02/2020 18:18

Rousette I wanted to put the Michael Spicer video up but didn’t know how. It’s bloody scary that she doesn’t seem to know the difference between terrorism and counterterrorism. Hysterical sketch.

NathanNathan · 20/02/2020 18:23

Awful woman.

Because she's a woman and minority we can't comment on her fairly obvious failings? Bit of a double standard.

She got fired from her last post for lying. In an environment where lying is like breathing. Think that says a lot tbf...

partofthepeanutgallery · 20/02/2020 18:27

I listened to the BBC5 interview this morning; she was awful. Sounded so unrealistic and plain nasty imo.

My 'favourite' was when they pointed out that 20% of the workforce was comprised primarily of students, the retired, the disabled, the sick/potentially dying, etc ... and she refused to acknowledge that actually those people aren't really capable of stepping up and filling all those positions, just kept spouting that they comprise 20% of people who can fill jobs!

She's fucking deluded.

Lordfrontpaw · 20/02/2020 18:28

So did Bozzer though. And she is a woman - so we can bitch, cancelled out by minority’s. If she come out as queer or (other) she will be golden.

Clackyheels · 20/02/2020 18:32

@StealthPolarBear there are loads of threads about Male politicians being dicks. Its nothing to do with her being female. She's a nasty piece of work, who has now got a platform to enable her to negatively affect millions of peoples lives. I'm ashamed to be part of a country that voted for this. The statement on the foreign office chills me to the bone.

Roussette · 20/02/2020 18:36

LeMaFe... yes, a lot of his stuff is on Youtube. My absolute favourite is him being Boris's earpiece when he said a speech in front of Police cadets. I couldn't stop watching it. "Activate Susan" has become a phrase in our house!

PurplePi · 20/02/2020 18:44

I called out Cameron when he was being particularly unpleasant to Jeremy Corbyn during PMQs. It's fine to disagree on politics, but it's unkind (and on the verge of bullying) to mock someone just because of what they wear. Cameron & Patel are birds of a feather. Not very bright, not very competent, and rather unpleasant.

Witchlight · 20/02/2020 18:47

Priti Patel
Priti Patel
If she doesn't scare you
No evil thing will
To see her is to
Take a sudden chill
Priti Patel Patel

The curl of her lips
The ice in her stare
All innocent children
Had better beware
She's like a spider waiting
For the kill
Look out for Priti Patel
At first you think
Priti is the devil
But after time has worn
Away the shock
You come to realize
You've seen her kind of eyes
Watching you from underneath
A rock!
This vampire bat
This inhuman beast
She ought to be locked up
And never released
The world was such
A wholesome place until
Priti, Priti Patel

Mummyoflittledragon · 20/02/2020 18:47

She is so vile she even makes Boris look good. Probably why he chose her. I would imagine the tick list for chosing his inner circle to be something along the lines of:

Vile ✅
Incompetent ✅
Has been sacked in the past ✅
Loathing of the hoi polloi ✅
Owner of off shore funds ✅
Hater of EU ✅

Have I missed anything?

The80sweregreat · 20/02/2020 21:18

I'd forgotten about Edwina curry!
My memory is definitely going these days.
