Daily Mail link, but I'm listening to it on BBC Radio 5. It sounds as if Priti Patel is facing lots of complaints because of the way she treats people. Combine that with her politics, and she just doesn't come across very pleasantly. Can she last in her job treating people like this (assuming it is true).

counter-terrorist offenders!!!!! She really is thick as shit.

Dozer · 21/02/2020 12:15

Wasn’t she fired for breaking the rules on political meetings in Israel? But as with Gavin Williamson, who allegedly leaked sensitive info, breaking the rules is fine with Boris.

sandybanana · 21/02/2020 12:19

I like her!!

She's doing a good job as Home Secretary.

She's ballsy , takes no crap and I think she is future PM material.

Now I am fully aware of how left leaning Mumsnet is so I am off now to get my hard hat 😆😆

sandybanana · 21/02/2020 12:21

Well to be honest it be wouldn't worth even contemplating having Diane Abbott as Home Secretary as the alternative . Now that is truly terrifying. 😳😳

Nope, PP will do nicely for me.

😁

Floribundance · 21/02/2020 13:15

‘Ballsy’ and ‘takes no crap’ aren’t what I’d want in a government minister. Competent, capable, persuasive and intelligent would be what I’d look for.

AmazingGreats · 21/02/2020 13:21

@sandybanana

I think they are made of pretty similar stuff really, they present differently but they are both thoroughly incompetent and have a shocking ability to misunderstand statistics. I also wouldn't trust either of them to do simple every day tasks for me, I definitely wouldn't trust them to babysit my kids. If I asked DA to make me a cup of coffee she'd probably not see the kettle for no good reason, boil the water in a pan on the hob, let it boil over and leave the gas on. I'd leave PP for an hour and she'd still be staring at the kettle wondering where the espresso button is. Is that really the best we can offer? I despair.

AmazingGreats · 21/02/2020 13:25

@Floribundance

I'd settle for some common sense and compassion. They don't need to be rocket scientists but a basic understanding of social policy and statistics should be a definite prerequisite

SirChing · 21/02/2020 13:31

Women are expected to be "nicer" than men, but my dislike of PP isn't because she isn't actively nice. It's because she is absolutely horrible, and I would view her the same if she was a bloke.

Ruthless and tyrannical, instead of tough and fair, isn't a good look on anyone. And those traits mixed with stupidity make her incredibly dangerous. The only person I come close to detesting as much is Rees Mogg, but even he isn't quite as bad.

Lordfrontpaw · 21/02/2020 13:34

Women sometimes seem to think that they have to act like Gengis Kahn if they are senior/want to get ahead in business. The most tricky bosses I have had have been female.

Floribundance · 21/02/2020 13:47

If you’re making policy unless you’re a dictator you need to be able to play well with others.

Floribundance · 21/02/2020 13:50

Women are judged very differently to men. The same words and tone that are considered leadership in a male boss may well be considered abrasive and short from a female boss.

Mockersisrightasusual · 21/02/2020 14:06

The Peter Principle has broken down with this particular PP who's been promoted way above her competence level. Rather like the equally vile McVey, she is the idiot child of self-made parents without a trace of empathy for anyone who isn't her.

Someone's going to record her and leak it.

Tellmetruth4 · 21/02/2020 14:20

I too have met John Major and can confirm he’s a nice guy.

Roussette · 21/02/2020 14:37

I think it's only a matter of time until she really shoots herself in the foot, she is desperately trying to act all ministerial and intelligent but she is as transparent on that as my kitchen window. She is just full of soundbites and bullshit.

She is banging on about only english speakers allowed to this country. I can't wait for France and Spain to reciprocate on that one with the immigrants there.

Frazzled2207 · 21/02/2020 15:36

Despite thinking PP is vile I don't think cabinet ministers necessarily need to be nice.

I don't think Teresa May was particularly "nice" or a good PM but I did think she had a bit of integrity, tried her best, and had (a bit of) genuine concern where PP has none. I don't vote for a an Mp because they're nice, I vote for the person most likely to represent our area and my views the best.

And YY to John Major being lovely. I didn't always agree with his politics, but I always felt he truly believed he was doing his best for the whole country.

ssd · 22/02/2020 08:46

John Major was one of the very passionate and impressive debaters in the remain campaign. Unfortunately because he actually just told the truth and didn't waste time with lies and sound bites his message wasn't listened to in the communities who will suffer the worst and voted to leave in abundance.

RufustheLanglovingreindeer · 22/02/2020 10:45

Told this story before but she told my husband that people on NMW are lazy and dont want to work

Please note she wasn’t talking about the economically inactive or unemployed or part time or anything else

Just people on NMW

Floribundance · 22/02/2020 16:13

We wouldn’t have a National Minimum wage if it were up to the Conservatives. Labour introduced it in spite of Conservative opposition. I’d imagine that the majority of Tory MPs and voters would share her views.

CondorDays · 22/02/2020 16:33

I would like to see people like John Major and Michael Portillo back in politics. Michael Portillos's part in saving the Carlisle to Settle railway was a great achievement.

Roussette · 22/02/2020 17:02

Michael Portillo is such a railway enthusiast, does anyone watch his serries on BBC at 6.30pm. It is really really good. Railway journeys all over Asia.

I wish she had some more principled people like him, John Major, Ken Clarke still in Government. I feel so uneasy with this lot. And Priti Vile Patel makes me very very worried.

Roussette · 22/02/2020 17:03

Sorry, CondorDays just realised you said that!

jcurve · 22/02/2020 17:10

I don’t know about Michael Portillo. He was a speaker at a lunch I was at recently & I found him very, very smug and quite pleased that the Conservatives have an open remit to do whatever they like for the next 5 years.

I didn’t know until recently that PP was a lobbyist for the tobacco & alcohol industries, and has voted against alcohol/tobacco regulation since becoming an MP. How much of a lowlife do you have to be to lobby for BAT?

megletthesecond · 22/02/2020 17:11

She's bad but Cummings is even worse.
Neither of them are fit to be in charge of a houseplant.
