Daily Mail link, but I'm listening to it on BBC Radio 5. It sounds as if Priti Patel is facing lots of complaints because of the way she treats people. Combine that with her politics, and she just doesn't come across very pleasantly. Can she last in her job treating people like this (assuming it is true).

And also my point being that smiling all the time is not a good look in serious situations. It's a condescending look.

Yes, but the odds game works out better to be condescending than not. As I note, how many men manage to get away with it. And it doesn't matter how many Tory MPs might find PP nauseating - just that the Great British Public queue up to find her "strong" and "in charge". And as Abraham Lincoln once said "Showing you are in charge starts with your face. If you can't control that, how can you drive a herd across a plain ?"

She’s a government minister who has to take sometimes unpopular decisions, she’s not supposed to be nice

Richard Branson also smiles all the time - and he shows his teeth.

Nice quote - some truth in that.

I had a boss like her around 3 years ago. She almost drove me to a nervous breakdown. I read the statement Sir Philip wrote and some of the statements he made about the culture were almost word for word what I wrote in my (unacknowledged) letter of resignation. It really affected me for a very long time.

I applaud Sir Philip for taking this to court when he could have just taken the money. He's opening himself up to massive criticism from the government and the press and I think that's pretty big of him. I've never been able to stand her, or what she stands for and was not surprised at all when this all came out.

I hope he doesn't decide to go on any long country walks.

That’s not even funny. I hope it wasn’t a joke.

GoatyGoatyMingeMinge · 04/03/2020 17:14

It made me smile!

She has got to go. Those sort of atmospheres where everyone around is to blame are a sure sign of an inability to handle the situation in hand.
Why should civil servants be subjected to such fear and harassment?

Why should civil servants be subjected to such fear and harassment?

After all, it's hardly like they are daring to claim ESA or PIP, is it ?

Have worked with her in the past and always found her very pleasant, but working 'with' people can be different from working 'for' them so I'm open to others possibly having a different experience. She knows what she wants and is certainly determined - but that is generally better than people who are wishy washy. Certainly never saw her be unpleasant to anyone, or even shouty.

Also worked with one of her former staffers who has worked for 3 other MPs. He absolutely adored her.

DRG That had me pissing myself!!!!

PP has a tough job, as has any HomeSec, but the botox she uses makes her seem like a AI experiment gone wrong.

At the end of the day she has to implement govt policy, passed by the cabinet, she just seems to enjoy it.

Brendan May @bmay

In 1999, I had to ask a PR firm to take someone off the account of the charity I ran, as she was so unbelievably rude to our junior staff, including a receptionist who manned the phones. I never thought she’d end up as Home Secretary...
