Lounging in pyjamas - disgusts me. AIBU

Hi, so just after opions. So, apart from Christmas, I really don't like my children lounging in the house in their pyjamas - it's a real bug bear or mine. So, it's half term and my SS is staying with us. My bio kids are up, fed and dressed by 8.30. SS is older so wakes at 10am (I have no problem with that) but his dad has no problem with him staying in pyjamas until after mid-day. I think it sets a lazy precedent and personally find it quite disgusting. AIBU? Bit too extreme?

My DC would happily chill all day in their boxers if I let them. Grin I have a cut off point after 10am everyone needs to get dressed, I don’t understand people who live in their dirty, sweaty PJs they’ve worn all night all day too.

ExpectTheWorst · 20/02/2020 11:03

We'll be in the minority OP but I absolutely agree with you. No pjs downstairs unless you're ill. Get up, get dressed. Wear comfy clothes but please get dressed. I absolutely cannot bear pjs during the day and have never understood it. It's perfectly possibly to relax and lounge around at home while dressed in proper clothes.

Aliceinwonderville · 20/02/2020 11:04

We wear pjs as much as we can at home.
Ft work in a ridiculously stressful job, being a carer for two children with additional needs and a mother to a nearly teen who struggles with his siblings disabilities means I/we cherish those times when we can relax in clean pjs.
If someone wasn’t washing fair enough but a rest in pjs over half term is fine

beckywiththeshithair33 · 20/02/2020 11:04

I have to agree with pp I a bit...I have a range of varying lounge wear. I'll happily slob about in leggings or pj bottoms but I sleep in a separate t shirt. I sweat a lot during the night so I like to change into something comfy but clean even if I am just slobbing about the house.

Cornettoninja · 20/02/2020 11:04

What are some of your kids up to in bed for pj’s to be disgusting?!?

Fact is night clothes are comfy af and perfect for a chilling day. Nothing wrong with the odd musty day. Good for the environment with all that saved washing Grin

TheReluctantCountess · 20/02/2020 11:05

We can never be friends Grin

LadyMadderRose · 20/02/2020 11:05

I love it! I like the whole "loungewear" concept and trend for wearing nice comfy things at home. I am a homey person and I love comfort, cosiness and the idea of being off-duty like that. Obviously getting dressed is important for many situations, and being stuck in a rut and unable to get dressed would be bad... but having a cosy PJ day is not that.

It's fine to hate it but I think you have to put up with it OP. In fact join us! There are so many lovely loungy things that aren't full-on PJs but just soft, snuggly at-home clothes.

I can see it's a bit gross to blob out in manky, holey underwear or stained pjs or something... but that's not doing it right.

You have to channel Claire Underwood...

I live in my pjs. I work from home and often get showered then put a clean pair on. They are just comfy house clothes to me. I don't wear them out of the house though, seeing people in pjs doing there shopping or the school run is grim.

Whatnametoday5 · 20/02/2020 11:07

The only rule I have is make sure you’ve brushed your teeth ..if we have no plans we are PJs/lounge clothes for the day.

FlowerArranger · 20/02/2020 11:07

My bio kids are up, fed and dressed by 8.30

I'm afraid you lost me there..... Shock

RA890 · 20/02/2020 11:08

I understand, OP. I certainly sometimes feel a bit gross if everyone is still in their pyjamas at midday on the weekend, but only because I see neighbours up and out doing things and I generslly like to be doing the same! I'm on maternity leave at the moment and find I start feeling a bit down and useless if I don't get properly dressed each day.

Samtsirch · 20/02/2020 11:09

I always felt that so long as my children were up and dressed promptly for school( and later weekend work), then they were entitled to some down time during the holidays, so a few pyjama mornings/days were fine.
I’ve never been able to apply the same attitude to myself though, always have to be dressed and presentable in case anybody unexpectedly calls round, lol.

Flippetydip · 20/02/2020 11:10

I'm one of those people that thinks that "fresh air" is good for the soul and mental health so my kids HAVE to leave the house in the holidays, regardless of the weather. Fortunately we have a dog so that takes care of that. Therefore we have to get dressed to do that.

They tend to slob around in front of the telly until about 10am and then get dressed of their own accord. So I don't think YAB totally U but maybe a little :)

ItIsWhatItIsInnit · 20/02/2020 11:11

I don’t understand people who live in their dirty, sweaty PJs

Speak for yourself. Mine aren't dirty or sweaty, I don't sweat at night.

Leebeemarie · 20/02/2020 11:13

I'm 24 and I sure as hell get in my PJ's any chance I get haha if I'm not doing anything on a weekend I'll get up and get changed from my pj's... into another set of pj's to do house work etc. First thing I do when I get home from work is get changed into my jammies haha.
I don't know how people can sit in jeans and be comfortable, it's mortifying.

Oh dear. You’d best not come to our house and I personally couldn’t be mates with someone like you. Kids need to chill out on school hols. Downtime. They are go go go the rest of the year. Holidays are just that! Long lie ins. Daytime TV. No showers. No shoes...we even go swimming in PJs during the hols. Haven’t you heard of the “no news, no shoes” philosophy? Your attitude is why kids grow up stressed and not knowing how to relax. Bit selfish and weird in my opinion. Don’t you want them to actually like you when they’re older and can choose if they want to hang out with you or not?

MilkTrayLimeBarrel · 20/02/2020 11:15

@Mumoflil1 - I agree with you OP! I never have and never will lounge around in pyjamas and dressing gown once I have got up. Just seems slovenly to me! My pet hate was when my husband's son used to stay with us, he used to sit on the sofa without a top on! On leather, on a hot day? Yuck!

Jocasta2018 · 20/02/2020 11:15

I sleep naked so my pyjamas are only worn when I'm lounging around.
Today I'm in a nice matching grey set from John Lewis that tone in nicely with my pale blue dressing gown however my bright red slipper socks are a more of a statement than subtle.

Englishrosegarden · 20/02/2020 11:15

I'm with you OP.
I was taught that nightwear was for upstairs only. If you are downstairs and it's daytime then you are washed and dressed. My children were brought up the same.
I can see we are in the minority though.

Cornettoninja · 20/02/2020 11:17

@Mumoflil1 Grin Grin

I love that this thread is divided by uptight pj wankers and uptight get dressed wankers!

dwum · 20/02/2020 11:18

@Englishrosegarden what about if you live in a bungalow? Or an apartment?

One of my great pleasure about holidays is not having to get out of your pjs straight away.

Plus, putting them on and then watching a movie before bed, snuggling with blankets... BLISS.

Fuckitwhynot · 20/02/2020 11:18

Hmm uptight wankers? Pots and kettles come to mind with that insult.

amusedbush · 20/02/2020 11:19

To all the uptight wankers.

This from the person DISGUSTED by pyjamas worn during the day Grin

If I'm at home, I'm in "lounge wear". The thought of sitting around in jeans is fucking weird so the first thing I do when I get home is change into old leggings and a baggy top (I don't own pyjamas but this is what I sleep in).

EdersonsSmileyTattoo · 20/02/2020 11:19

My God you’d hate my house OP! Ds13 is in a onesie as soon as he gets in from school and as soon as I’m back home from doing errands and in for the rest of the I’m showered and back in clean pj’s!

I have more pj’s than I do normal clothes!

YABVU!
