Lounging in pyjamas - disgusts me. AIBU

Hi, so just after opions. So, apart from Christmas, I really don't like my children lounging in the house in their pyjamas - it's a real bug bear or mine. So, it's half term and my SS is staying with us. My bio kids are up, fed and dressed by 8.30. SS is older so wakes at 10am (I have no problem with that) but his dad has no problem with him staying in pyjamas until after mid-day. I think it sets a lazy precedent and personally find it quite disgusting. AIBU? Bit too extreme?

That's part of the joy of a lazy wet half term

  • chilling out in the pj's pottering around the house! I'm always dressed but the kids have loved being in pj's and onesies the last few days.
Cornettoninja · 20/02/2020 11:19

I think MNetters by default are generally uptight 🤔

Mumoflil1 · 20/02/2020 11:21

@Cornettoninja rotfl too funny! Who would have thought GrinGrin gotta love the mumsnet uptights that walk amongst us.

Mammyloveswine · 20/02/2020 11:22

I'm still in my pjs... so are the kids..

Beechview · 20/02/2020 11:22

I agree with you op. I don’t find it disgusting but I don’t like it.
I’ll nag if anyone is still in pyjamas at midday.
If we’re at home then everyone just wears trackies, and if we need to pop to the shops or decide to go for a walk or whatever then we can go just as we are.
I just feel a bit foggy headed and lazy whilst I’m lounging in my pyjamas. I hate getting to the evening and realising I’ve done nothing all day including getting changed.

icannotremember · 20/02/2020 11:22

I don't give a shit either way

I can't imagine caring what people wear to lounge around the house

Beautiful3 · 20/02/2020 11:23

My husband hates seeing the kids in their PJs. He says that they must be dressed in the mornings. I dont mind the occasional PJ day, but do prefer that they're dressed by lunch time.

Cornettoninja · 20/02/2020 11:23

Ah @Mumoflil1, see I think we have to accept our own uptightness. The draw to MN, specifically AIBU, is pretty damning evidence.

I’m ok with that though Wink

Are you the Grandma from The Gilmore Girls?

Singlenotsingle · 20/02/2020 11:24

So when do you have a Pyjama Day? Shock

PickwickThePlockingDodo · 20/02/2020 11:24

Bet your SS loves coming to stay with you, OP Grin

AndwhenyougetthereFoffsomemore · 20/02/2020 11:24

daytime PJ wearers here: I WFH and often spend the first hour or two of work in my PJs. I wonder if it's also a real teen thing - my two discovered a love of bed and lounging about as they hit their teens ... dsdin particular wears a dressing gown over his normal clothes and both of them gravitate to the comfiest clothes possible when not in school uniform...

aSofaNearYou · 20/02/2020 11:25

I'm actually the same as you OP, I hate being in my pyjamas all day, it makes me feel really lazy and like I haven't properly got up. Me and my partner largely work from home and sometimes my partner will sit in his dressing gown all day, and it does make me feel a bit depressed, but I am aware that it just doesn't bother some people. Lots of people actively really like being in their pyjamas and it's part of their idea of a "cozy day", no real reason that being lazy all day in proper clothes is less lazy than being lazy all day in pyjamas, it just feels that way to me.

I wouldn't call it disgusting, though, unless they were actually sweaty/dirty, in which case I WOULD insist they get dressed. If they are clean just try not to let it get to you, it doesn't actually make any difference.

suchsweetsorrow82 · 20/02/2020 11:26

It’s 11.22 and we’re all still in our PJ’s here. The horror!

Kids were bathed last night so I’m not sure what’s disgusting about it 🤔 Agree with a PP re cleaning teeth though.
I showered this morning, blow dried hair and cleaned teeth and put some clean pj’s/loungewear on.
We’re not going out today. It’s cold wet and windy and we’ve been out ‘doing’ every day for the past 6 days.

We’re chilling, youngest is watching TV and playing with toys. Oldest is colouring. I’m on MN. It’s bliss!

I think you need to lighten up a little Smile

Sobeyondthehills · 20/02/2020 11:26

DS (7) has spent this half term mainly in PJs, the weather here has been shit, no guests coming round, otherwise we would normally be dressed and out the house by 11am, he has brushed his teeth, had baths and changed in to fresh PJs for the nighttime.

I would also be spending my half term in PJs but I find my mental health gets worse if I dont at least get dressed

Bluewavescrashing · 20/02/2020 11:26

Nothing wrong with it if they've had a bath the previous night and put clean pjs on.

Mine did last night and will have another bath tonight and put clean pjs on before bed.

I was in my pjs til 11am but then showered as I'd got sweaty doing housework, yuck. I've put clean joggers and a t shirt on as we're staying indoors today, crafting and baking.

Lazing in pjs is only grim if the person is unwashed in dirty pjs.

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 20/02/2020 11:28

I have separate lounge wear and nightwear. I prefer to change into loose jersey separates at home to avoid wear on my 'good' clothes. Might that be an option, have some inexpensive joggers and t-shirts available for lounging days?

gingersausage · 20/02/2020 11:28

It’s pretty disgusting to be contemplating your step-son’s wet dreams. Far more so than sitting around in pyjamas Hmm.

Morgan12 · 20/02/2020 11:31

My 7 year old is naked most of the time. You would hate my house. I have more pyjamas than clothes 😂

Mumoflil1 · 20/02/2020 11:32

@Fuckitwhynot I can tell you don't have many friend because you will no that friends compare notes and we can tell each other we are being unreasonable and have a laugh in the process GrinGrin.

I'm like Flippertydip. Get dressed mid morning and make sure kids get fresh air at some point each day. YABU OP but I understand your approach :)

Greggers2017 · 20/02/2020 11:37

11:30 here! Just dressed the baby. One in his boxers on his PS4 and the two older girls are still asleep.
I'm still in my dressing gown! Not even brushed my hair yet

Booboostwo · 20/02/2020 11:37

You've lost it now OP. Are you picturing everyone in pyjamas as you post? Think of us in formal wear if it will help you calm down.

Sparklingbrook · 20/02/2020 11:39

I am no longer in my PJs, I am showered and lounging about in my bra and pants. Grin

menopause59 · 20/02/2020 11:39

If we don't go out we don't get dressed it saves on laundry

Part of the school holidays is having lazy mornings and a break from the rush of the school run
