To have complained to Uber Eats

Ordered a meal for me and the DCs, we've all got stinking colds and have been hunkered down all day.

The driver is assigned: it's a female name and they're on a bike

Ten minutes later (not concerned about this aspect, quick) my food arrives, delivered by a man in a car. No sign of this female anywhere.

I normally tip generously and give good feedback but this time I did neither and actually complained that the driver wasn't who they said they were. AIBU to have done this?

Amazon, Hermes etc don't carry out DBS checks! There's no difference between random (to recipient) Hermes driver and random Uber Eats driver. Other delivery apps don't tell you who the person is. If UE hadn't then no one would be any the wiser. Are you 100% certain yesterdays amazon parcel was delivered by an Amazon employee? It won't have been because they're self employed. Could well have been the self employed Amazon drivers sister, or mate, or son.

justplopit · 19/02/2020 20:19

Amazon, Hermes etc don't carry out DBS checks!

Maybe check their websites....

justplopit · 19/02/2020 20:19

*Hermes will require you to provide a clear, valid DBS certificate within the first 5 weeks of providing service (The DBS certificate should dated in the previous 6 months).

justplopit · 19/02/2020 20:20

Amazon is looking for Delivery Partners who are at least 18 years old with a valid full UK driving licence and a vehicle. You will need to be entitled to work in the UK and pass a background and criminal record check which includes, but is not limited to, a review of driving licence records.

titchy · 19/02/2020 20:24

You still don't know that the delivery driver is the one employed by Hermes though do you.

But stand corrected on the dbs issue!

MissEliza · 19/02/2020 20:29

I see where you're coming from Op. Make the complaint and see what the response is.

Hadjab · 19/02/2020 20:30

@BoomBoomsCousin

As @TSSDNCOP stated, that’s not how it works, I don’t have any customer details, no addresses, no phone numbers, nothing, other than a first name - technically, when a customer places an order, their contract is with Deliveroo/Uber Eats, not with me.

Bikerider2020 · 19/02/2020 20:31

YABVU and totally ridiculous! If they had said it was a male in the car you'd still have taken the food and ignored the checks or whatever!

greedygutty · 19/02/2020 20:32

I've had this happen before , but to be honest I'm really only interested in getting my food whilst it's hot

Lhia29 · 19/02/2020 20:33

To be fair to the op, I ordered. It was a different gender and different vehicle and the guy got lost. So there I was looking for someone else outside my house in the freezing cold and dark. Little did I know the guy had driven past twice but I hadn't noticed him because he was not the woman on a moped I expected. I got a very cold dinner 30 mins late. So I complained and they gave me a free meal next time.

It was actually really frustrating because it couldve been avoided if I'd known who the hell I was looking for out the window and stood outside my door.

Yanbu.

justplopit · 19/02/2020 20:35

You still don't know that the delivery driver is the one employed by Hermes though do you.
That's not the point though, Hermes know who their delivery drivers are & have done the appropriate checks.

Uber eats & uber don't know who is delivering food or rides.

Lhia29 · 19/02/2020 20:36

And agon tbf op that does go against their policy apparently because of things like them getting lost or for records if any crime where to happen. I would have left it because Im sure it's shitty pay and he meant well but because takeaways are a huge treat here due to financial issues I reported it.

Lhia29 · 19/02/2020 20:37

*again

justplopit · 19/02/2020 20:37

But stand corrected on the dbs issue!

Do you normally state information as fact when you have no bloody idea?

goingoverground · 19/02/2020 20:37

@titchy You still don't know that the delivery driver is the one employed by Hermes though do you

The difference is that the delivery driver has to go to the Hermes depot to pick up the parcels, Hermes don't just hand over parcels to a random person they haven't employed. Uber Eats and Deliveroo have no personal contact with the delivery drivers on a day to day basis. They have no way of knowing who has logged into the system. That's why Uber have lost their cab licence in London because drivers who didn't have a mini cab licence or insurance were using other people's profiles to work illegally.

Lhia29 · 19/02/2020 20:38

Just rtft. Wow, people are getting invested. Sorry you got flamed op.

tallah · 19/02/2020 20:40

What did you order?

justplopit · 19/02/2020 20:42

@goingoverground it's way to complicated for @titchy to understand apparently

QueenOfOversharing · 19/02/2020 20:49

I have no idea what I RTFT.

QueenOfOversharing · 19/02/2020 20:50

*why

lyralalala · 19/02/2020 21:21

I assumed the ones that turn up in cars instead of on bikes do so because that way they don't have prove business insurance on their car. I also assumed that UberEats don't care given their lax checks on Uber drivers actually ferrying people around

justdeckingthehalls1 · 19/02/2020 21:37

Completely missing the point, but how on earth would you ride a bicycle in full hijab and burka?! I'd be most impressed

BennyBanana · 19/02/2020 21:42

Uber haven’t lost their license in London btw. They are fully operational.

I have had a driver assigned on Uber eats which ends up being different as it gets switched at some point before the food is picked up. It’s nothing sinister.

viccat · 19/02/2020 22:03

This has happened with at least half of the orders I've placed on Uber Eats - if not a different person, then at least it always tends to be a car when it says bike. The first time it happened I think I looked it up on their FAQ and it said they allow it, strangely enough.

I've never been overly worried about it though as I tend to feel I'm more at risk from random strangers walking down the street. As far as I know, Uber Eats drivers don't get given your phone number, they can only contact you through the app. I have an experience, years ago, of a local pizza place delivery guy keeping my number after delivering to me and texting me afterwards to ask if I wanted company. Angry

BoomBoomsCousin · 19/02/2020 22:12

@Hadjab Sorry, I misunderstood you. Since you said you used them to deliver I thought you'd meant that you contracted with deliveroo to have them deliver your cakes on your behalf. Not that they were promoting your cakes without your knowledge or approval and, from your perspective, just happened to be passing them on to someone else.
