To have complained to Uber Eats

Ordered a meal for me and the DCs, we've all got stinking colds and have been hunkered down all day.

The driver is assigned: it's a female name and they're on a bike

Ten minutes later (not concerned about this aspect, quick) my food arrives, delivered by a man in a car. No sign of this female anywhere.

I normally tip generously and give good feedback but this time I did neither and actually complained that the driver wasn't who they said they were. AIBU to have done this?

OP of you had ordered, and it said pierre was delivering, would you have cancelled your order? Or if it said pierre but Khadija had turned up would you still have complained?

fluffyblackcloud · 19/02/2020 17:18

@gallgal well yes as it's an actual issue you could get support for

APatchyTomCat · 19/02/2020 17:18

If there was the option to choose the sex of the driver I could understand, but as you can’t, I’m not really sure what the issue is?

sunshineandshowers21 · 19/02/2020 17:18

this is beyond ridiculous. what if you didn’t use uber eats and just ordered a takeaway from a menu that came through the door? you’d have no idea who would be delivering it, so why does it make a difference? it’s amazing the things some people get worked up about 😂

madmumofteens · 19/02/2020 17:19

Another ridiculously silly thread 🙄 why does it matter in the grand scheme of things

fluffyblackcloud · 19/02/2020 17:19

Can't even engage with this anymore. Don't try the passive aggressive "should I post about a bereavement", how is that even relevant?

1066vegan · 19/02/2020 17:21

If I order a takeaway, I phone the restaurant directly so don't know how Uber eats works; I didn't realise that you were told who would be delivering the food. I still don't see the problem. Surely all that matters is that you get the food that you ordered and it comes within the time expected. What difference does the driver or their vehicle make?

It would be different if you'd ordered a taxi, expected a female driver and were reluctant to be in a car on your own with a male driver because you felt vulnerable.

gallgal · 19/02/2020 17:22

Yeah if my delivery was supposed to come via Pierre on a hovercraft and turned up with Angela on a Penny Farthing I would still wonder why it wasn't the person it said on the app

OP posts:
Cocobean30 · 19/02/2020 17:23

It’s not the drivers fault that the wrong name/pic was supplied. YABU not to tip the driver.

APatchyTomCat · 19/02/2020 17:23

But why would you complain?

gallgal · 19/02/2020 17:24

Ok so IABU to have pointed out that the delivery person named on all and actual delivery person were not the same.

So why do Uber even bother telling us this information if it doesn't matter?

OP posts:
iklboo · 19/02/2020 17:24

The original assigned delivery person who 'bagsied' the slot may have been held up, diverted to a closer address or too far away to get you the food hot and on time.

gallgal · 19/02/2020 17:24

It is the driver's fault @Cocobean30 - that's how UberEats works

OP posts:
gallgal · 19/02/2020 17:25

But if that happened @iklboo they would not have been paid, as Uber pay the drivers, not the restaurant

OP posts:
justplopit · 19/02/2020 17:25

I understand what you mean op. If you order from Uber eats a picture & name of the delivery driver pops up. Mine has very rarely matched & tbh it's never bothered me. However this like a pp said is exactly why Uber rides are in trouble & when I use an Uber for that purpose I won't get in unless the driver matches the photo.

Nowayorhighway · 19/02/2020 17:26

I don’t get why this matters at all. I complained because they delivered on a bicycle and the food was cold as a result.

shinyredbus · 19/02/2020 17:27

Uber eats is the shits. They charged my corporate credit card (!!!!) and the bloody food was stone cold and over 45 mins late.

JorahsMistress · 19/02/2020 17:29

Yabu, you got your food in a really good time, and whatever the reason for a change of driver, someone has missed out on a tip as they wasn't the woman, rather unfair on them, so for that yabu also

fluffyblackcloud · 19/02/2020 17:29

Ok let's take it back to basics yeah you were unreasonable

EssentialHummus · 19/02/2020 17:32

I’ve had the same from Uber Eats, went to their FAQ / complaints section and discovered that they allow it (or did a few months ago, anyway).

Allyg1185 · 19/02/2020 17:34

Confused get a grip

Poorolddaddypig · 19/02/2020 17:35

This is bizarre. And you were rude not to tip. And potentially get the driver in trouble for a non-issue

TrixieTheWhore · 19/02/2020 17:37

Can't even get my head around this one.

Stop the world...

gallgal · 19/02/2020 17:37

I've done a little digging online. It appears that there are fewer security checks for cyclists as opposed to drivers, and it's therefore quite common to get someone turn up in a car when you are expecting a bike.

OP posts:
imnottoofussed · 19/02/2020 17:37

Yes it bothers me a bit as it makes me think they are hiding something.

So the person registered with Uber eats is getting any old friend or relative to deliver your food. Why aren't they delivering it themselves? and why is the actual delivery person not officially registered with Uber. Either they are working illegally or don't meet some other criteria to be employed properly.

I'd prefer Uber to not even tell me who is delivering if it has no purpose.

It hasn't stopped me ordering to be honest, the cold food has though.
