@yolofish I wouldn't want to book a holiday with that complaint Covid or not. Hope your DD is ok.

GorkyMcPorky · 22/02/2020 16:34

Company, not complaint. Walk-typing!

Zorona · 22/02/2020 16:35

Normally when flu outbreaks occur they are quick to tell us that the people who died had underlying health problems . But there seems to be less of this with covid. The man who died in Italy had recently ran two
Races, played in a football match, eaten out at restaurants. Etc

RedToothBrush · 22/02/2020 16:36

BNO Newsroom @BNODesk
NEW: Italy reports another case of coronavirus, the first one in Piedmont Region - ANSA

French/Swiss/Italian border area.

Snowdropsdelight · 22/02/2020 16:37

I was looking forward to two holidays this year. Italy (Venice and verona) and Brighton.

SirVixofVixHall · 22/02/2020 16:39

Very worried now.

RedToothBrush · 22/02/2020 16:40

New case reported in Turin (Italy). He had participated in a running race with patient #1 of Codogno on February 2.

So Italy's problem goes back to at least Feb 2. Thats twenty days of potential transmission which has gone unnoticed and only come to the surface 18 days later.

WaterSheep · 22/02/2020 16:44

So Italy's problem goes back to at least Feb 2. Thats twenty days of potential transmission which has gone unnoticed and only come to the surface 18 days later.

The longer transmission timeline makes a lot of sense. So many of the Italian cases seem severe / critical, which suggests they've had the virus for quite a while.

RedToothBrush · 22/02/2020 16:52

Worth noting that
Italy was the first euro zone country to suspend all direct flights to and from China, provoking the ire of the Beijing government. It took the decision after two Chinese tourists from Wuhan tested positive in Rome in late January.
(paragraph taken from Reuters)

Timeline for context
Flights between Italy and China were stopped on 30th January.
Wuhan was locked down on the 22nd January.

The first patient in the Lombardy cluster had never been to China, but he had been in contact with a friend who had visited there recently.

That man has tested negative for the disease and never had any symptoms. Authorities are trying to establish whether he was a carrier who passed it on.

So the window to stop the spread was much earlier and narrower than realised and there are quite possibly other silent carriers and potential clusters yet to appear.

Iran's information has changed. Instead of 5 deaths today they're now showing just 1. Confused

SirVixofVixHall · 22/02/2020 17:12

Yolo - your dd should point out that if this is CV then it could be catastrophic for them, and insist on being seen .

RedToothBrush · 22/02/2020 17:20

To be expected with Iran by all accounts.

I'm seeing stuff about coronavirus causing viral myocarditis today. That's inflammation of the heart which causes shortness of breathe, chest pain etc right up to heart attacks.

Now we've seen about COVID-19 causing pneumonia and organ failure, but not much about sudden heart attacks.

Something to keep an eye on...

RedToothBrush · 22/02/2020 17:23

My concern here is particularly whether deaths from myocarditis are being connected with COVID-19 and being counted as deaths from COVID-19.

A lot of this concern that is suddenly appearing seems to be coming out of Iran.

MissPoldark · 22/02/2020 17:27

The man who died in Italy had recently ran two
Races, played in a football match, eaten out at restaurants. Etc

Erm, not sure about that. There is a young man fitting this description currently in intensive care, but the first death afaik was a 70 something bricklayer.

lemonjumper · 22/02/2020 17:29

"Covid-19, the new form of coronavirus which has killed over 2,000 people around the world, has become a notifiable disease in Scotland.

Health regulations have been updated, requiring doctors to inform health boards about any cases of the disease.

They must share patient information "if they have reasonable grounds to suspect a person they are attending has coronavirus"."

www.bbc.com/news/uk-scotland-51592357

Genuinely surprised this wasn't the case already Confused

RedToothBrush · 22/02/2020 17:31

Bno newsroom @bnonews
Italy's Council of Ministers will meet on coronavirus at 6:30 p.m. local time. Prime Minister Conte says the government is considering "extraordinary measures"

Thats now.

So expect more developments tonight I guess.

Banana0pancakes · 22/02/2020 17:35

Obviously I can't validate its authenticity, but this was apparently a message exchange between a doctor in china and someone else from 8th Feb. It struck a chord with me then because the sudden death bit seemed odd for flu.

to be worried about coronavirus part 3
RedToothBrush · 22/02/2020 17:41

That image has 4chan written on the note. Makes me dubious over its legitimacy tbh.

lemonjumper · 22/02/2020 17:41

@Banana0pancakes that's a screenshot from 4chan, so it's going to be very difficult to confirm authenticity on an anonymous message board. Personally I take anything from 4chan with a big pinch of salt!

KOKOagainandagain · 22/02/2020 17:43

God knows where but I did read that some people were experiencing heart difficulties after seemingly recovering but this was put down to treatments causing heart damage rather than the virus itself. It is not clear what treatments could have caused this damage.

Jenasaurus · 22/02/2020 17:49

55 cases in Italy now! was 30 when I popped to the shop 30 minutes ago!

bnonews.com/index.php/2020/02/the-latest-coronavirus-cases/

This is getting worrying

RedToothBrush · 22/02/2020 17:49

It is not clear what treatments could have caused this damage.

Anti viral or steroids potentially.

WaterSheep · 22/02/2020 17:50

the government is considering "extraordinary measures"

It will be interesting to see what they mean by this.

BambooBoobam · 22/02/2020 17:51

Keep I can’t remember if it was on this thread or another corona one but I mentioned a video diary from Hai Tang about his wife, Li Ting, and her corona infection.

One of her latest videos mentioned that tests had shown issues with her heart.

wherearemychickens · 22/02/2020 18:05

Well, John Campbell's latest video is worrying isn't it.
