Guest left clothing - wash or not?

Posting for traffic... and will garner whether I was being unreasonable or not by the replies.

Name changed as I'd prefer this wasn't linked to my other threads.

Had a friend stay over at the weekend. They informed me hours after they left they'd left an item of clothing behind. Didn't realise they'd left it but after looking for it I found it so told them I had done so.

They asked if I could post it, I said sure... so put it in the post the next day.

The day after I got a text thanking me for the 'worn' item.

My question is... should I have laundered it before returning? This item was bright red btw, and first wear so I'm damned to risk dying my own washing pink! And I'm not doing 'dark' washing again until the weekend.

I've not replied to the text - they've got their clothing but how the fuck should I reply?!

I wouldn't have washed that either. Not because I didn't want to put myself but because I wouldn't want to spoil it for them or embarrass them (if underwear). If they were pissy about it then the problem lies with them!

DressDrama01 · 12/02/2020 21:20

It'd reply "Yes worn by you not by me"

Rosehipbubbles · 12/02/2020 21:21

Ignore - did they pay for postage - which I bet was about £5.

OverByYer · 12/02/2020 21:21

Worn?
Worn by them? Why would you wash it unless like you said you were putting a load on. They are CFers

4amWitchingHour · 12/02/2020 21:23

They asked for it to be posted to them on the same day they had left it behind - there's no way I would have washed it. They're being a cheeky fecker

youareacuntychops · 12/02/2020 21:24

Whattt?? Do they think you wore it?

bridgetreilly · 12/02/2020 21:26

What a weird thing for them to say. I definitely wouldn't have washed it if it had been left at mine or expected anyone to wash it if I'd left it at theirs. Except my mother who has to be physically restrained from doing my washing at any opportunity - I'd have been shocked if she hadn't washed it for me.

Nowayorhighway · 12/02/2020 21:26

Madness, I’m guessing they didn’t reimburse you for postage either? Hmm This is a guest I wouldn’t be inviting again.

EuroMillionsWinner · 12/02/2020 21:27

'Yes, worn by you. I'm not running a launderette. As it is you're due me £X for postage as I'm not running a Hermes franchise, either.'

I'd be fucking annoyed.

KitKatKit · 12/02/2020 21:27

Your friend is craaaayyy

Twillow · 12/02/2020 21:28

Do you think they might just have meant the item they had worn, as in left behind dirty, with no dig at you?

smashstore · 12/02/2020 21:30

I would have washed it. I don’t really know why it would turn your washing pink, surely you just put in like with like when doing washing?

LionelRitchieStoleMyNotebook · 12/02/2020 21:30

I would usually wash an item left behind but after that comment I'd be telling them to sod off!

Breckenridged · 12/02/2020 21:32

Hmm, my kids’ friends leave a lot of clothes at our house and I always launder before returning.

But the text is a bit strange.

MsWasher · 12/02/2020 21:32

So when I got the message my gut instinct was to send the following replies:

"Expecting me to be your postal service is one thing... but laundry service?! You're taking the piss!"

And the other was:

"People pay good money for that! 😉"

And yeah it is underwear 🙈

I do really like this person, and I thought they'd be grateful that I returned this item so quick. But now I'm thinking I should've laundered it before returning. It was not dirty though (sorry if TMI). The person didn't have it on for long Grin

Honeybee85 · 12/02/2020 21:33

What a cheeky fucker.
They’re lucky you put it in the post for them.

I’d reply with: glad to hear you appreciate that I took the effort to send it after you left it at my house. You’re welcome!

Muckycat · 12/02/2020 21:34

Blimey, that is a cheek!! Was it particularly grubby and they might've been embarrassed?

DNR · 12/02/2020 21:35

Maybe they were a bit embarrassed and were referring to that - as in " I'm so sorry you had to handle my worn item. ?? You know them and if they're more likely cheeky fuckers or self deprecating people

Whatsnewpussyhat · 12/02/2020 21:35

I wouldn't have washed it either.

EuroMillionsWinner · 12/02/2020 21:35

They expect you to wash their fucking used smalls?! Why on Earth don't you send them that message? They're fucking having you on.

I don’t really know why it would turn your washing pink, surely you just put in like with like when doing washing?

Duh, some red items can dye washing. Surely it's not hard to realise this? Hmm

Crunchymum · 12/02/2020 21:36

Knickers or bra or other garment?

Why didn't they have it on for long?

rwalker · 12/02/2020 21:36

just reply "worn lol yeah if it was new i'd of kept it"

SinCitysCold · 12/02/2020 21:37

@smashstore Op already said she's not doing like until the weekend. Hmm

Your friend is rude and ungrateful, OP.

Muckycat · 12/02/2020 21:37

Oh it was undies! Maybe it was a joke about people buying worn knickers online?

Breckenridged · 12/02/2020 21:37

If you know it wasn’t on for long, I assume this friend is a very close friend..? Wink
