Here is the old thread:

Here is a twitter video from Wuhan I want to share because it so heartbreaking. People happily celebrating shortly before it became known that there was a virus outbreak. There already were some rumors but people didn’t believe them:
twitter.com/WLaowai8/status/1225637845508837377

@Yourtunbridgewells: The info you are sharing (472000 deaths in the UK) is very scary. Is this a worst case scenario.

@justdeckingthehalls: Epidemiologist Eric Feigl-Ding writes that it is airborne on twitter: twitter.com/DrEricDing/status/1226236552059260928
N95 masks help against airborne transmission don’t they?

No official news out of Port Talbot but there are photos of the emergency vehicles and the staff in hazmat

Notstrongandstable · 11/02/2020 21:48

Jeffrey - is that a confirmed case in Port Talbot? I haven't heard anything

RedToothBrush · 11/02/2020 21:49

You guys on this thread will probably know more than me since I'm not sure of timelines but I'm starting to worry that I maybe had coronavirus already, I know a lot of you are saying it could already be going round. I was Malaysia at the start of Dec and when I came back I was floored with the flu for over a week.

The outbreak in Wuhan is supposed to have started in early Dec. So your trip would be too early to have coronavirus, otherwise Malaysia would have a much larger outbreak by now.

You had a boring old fashioned normal flu.

Tript · 11/02/2020 21:54

Red that's what I was hoping you would say! Was getting worried I'd already infected everyone I know Blush

fripperyclose · 11/02/2020 21:54

The port talbot stuff sounds like bollocks.

Russellbrandshair · 11/02/2020 21:57

I don’t buy it- why would police be knocking on doors in port Talbot yet they haven’t done that in Brighton where there quite a few confirmed cases? And why would they waste police resources on random houses where there is no proof of virus? Don’t believe this.

JustMyName · 11/02/2020 21:57

Why does it sound like bollocks? There are photos on Twitter of ambulances and the police have been telling people to stay indoors as it's highly contagious, according to a post on fb.

PotholeParadise · 11/02/2020 21:57

Better not be. Hospital trust sounds like it's already overwhelmed.

I quote, in its entirety, the banner at the top of the page from Swansea Bay University Health Board:

"Our hospitals are VERY busy. If it's not an emergency,go to our urgent care advice page
"Norovirus is circulating.Go to our norovirus advice page
"Winter is here- so is the flu!Go to our flu advice page
"Coronavirus.Go to the latest news on coronavirus on the Public Health Wales website"

Russellbrandshair · 11/02/2020 21:58

So why has this not been done in Brighton? Are there different government rules for Brighton? It’s the same virus

ofwarren · 11/02/2020 21:58

The photos do show hazmat suits

fripperyclose · 11/02/2020 21:58

Oh a photo of an ambulance! That proves e writhing.

Russellbrandshair · 11/02/2020 21:59

Oh it’s from Facebook? lol nuff said

mindproject · 11/02/2020 21:59

The whole thing sounds fishy to me. Nobody in the UK has died, whereas the flu kills thousands every year, just to put it into perspective.

JustMyName · 11/02/2020 22:01

Maybe the police are just doing what they think is right? I don't know. I don't know why people would post photos if the ambulances weren't there though. Hopefully it's not corona.

Russellbrandshair · 11/02/2020 22:03

So the police are knocking on every persons door in port talbot to tell them to stay inside? That’s going to take them a long time

PotholeParadise · 11/02/2020 22:04

A couple of months back, there were people swearing on their parents' graves on FB that there had been an 'orrible murder of a man's wife, just a couple of streets away from me. Word was that an ambulance had been called for her, etc, etc.

Nah. Turned out the bloke wasn't even married.

PotholeParadise · 11/02/2020 22:14

Port Talbot police haven't put it on FB yet... There is an announcement appealing for witnesses to a car accident this evening, though.

fripperyclose · 11/02/2020 22:17

Hysteria at it's best. It's like people almost WANT there to be Coronavirus there. Pure excitement and drama.

UtterlyPerfectCartoonGiraffe · 11/02/2020 22:20

Ambulances and people in hazmat suits (and telling people to stay indoors) sounds like what happens around here when the biofuel plant goes a bit bonkers, or a factory has a leak of some kind. Or the local antique shop smashes an antique thermometer and gets two streets closed down. Or when something agricultural catches fire. Or when the police raid what they thought was a meth lab (it wasn’t). Aah countryside living Grin Hopefully it’s of that ilk rather than anything virus related.

UtterlyPerfectCartoonGiraffe · 11/02/2020 22:29

mindproject this virus has killed over 1000 people in 4-6 weeks. (And 1000 is a very conservative estimate, due to the way Chinese hospitals record deaths - if the virus triggers organ failure which triggers a heart attack for eg, the cause of death would be recorded as “heart attack” not “Coronavirus”.

Just because it hasn’t killed anyone in the uk doesn’t mean it isn’t happening (“fishy”?? Ffs) Over 1000 people have lost their lives. Thousands of people have lost loved ones. Many many more facing indefinite lockdown. Imagine that for some perspective.

LoadsaBlusher · 11/02/2020 22:30

Has trump ( mr I love twitter) posted one single thing about this ?
Also why the radios silence from Boris ?

I just keep thinking why haven’t you mentioned it?

Usually trump is like “ fake news “ etc but he has been completely silent

PotholeParadise · 11/02/2020 22:33

Has Trump been silent about Coronavirus in general, or just Coronavirus in Port Talbot?

Sorry, can't keep track! I'm multitasking here and MNing while not writing a report that has zero to do with coronavirus.

Russellbrandshair · 11/02/2020 22:35

(“fishy”?? Ffs)

No, not the virus being fishy. We’re saying it’s fishy the police are knocking on every persons door in only one part of the country instructing everyone to stay inside. They aren’t knocking on doors in Brighton yet that is the hot spot so far. Especially since this “news” has only come from Facebook and is not on any news anywhere.

GarlicSoup · 11/02/2020 22:35

@fripperyclose 'Pure excitement and drama'

Give it a rest - I'm sure the World Health Organisation don't consider it this. Hmm

Jenasaurus · 11/02/2020 22:36

The strain on the NHS is already greater, I work in this area and the calls are coming in fast from people with cold symptoms, but having watched the news assuming the worst, there is a strict guideline to follow to calculate whether to treat it as high risk but all must be considered as such until proven otherwise, so you can imagine how this will play out if more people are found to have the virus. People are very anxious right now and on high alert and I understand why but the majority will just be a cold or flu type virus.
