Here is the old thread:

Here is a twitter video from Wuhan I want to share because it so heartbreaking. People happily celebrating shortly before it became known that there was a virus outbreak. There already were some rumors but people didn’t believe them:
twitter.com/WLaowai8/status/1225637845508837377

@Yourtunbridgewells: The info you are sharing (472000 deaths in the UK) is very scary. Is this a worst case scenario.

@justdeckingthehalls: Epidemiologist Eric Feigl-Ding writes that it is airborne on twitter: twitter.com/DrEricDing/status/1226236552059260928
N95 masks help against airborne transmission don’t they?

I go from calm and reading as much as I can on official papers and reports on it and then worried as soon as I either look at mainstream media or on forums discussing worst possible scenarios

At the moment it’s feb 15th, over 2 months (possibly more we will never know) since the original outbreak in Wuhan where people are in their masses and travel far and wide on a daily basis.

It has a 14-30 day incubation (tbc) and symptoms get worse after a week or go away.

So by now surly things in Europe and USA where there are tech and manufacturing hubs would be suffering big time by now.

We have 2 examples of it being transferred by travelling people on business infecting a group of people in Germany and England/France and so far there is no sign of further major outbreak.

I think that must have some sort of reassurance to it

RedToothBrush · 15/02/2020 20:20

I am about to book a holiday to Disney Orlando for the summer and I am now in two minds

We'll know before the summer how bad it is. If you have travel insurance make sure it covers pandemics (not all do - yes I have checked this - I know mine is good).

LoadsaBlusher · 15/02/2020 20:21

Yes nemophilistthe low European / UK rates are the only thing keeping me calm at the moment.

GorkyMcPorky · 15/02/2020 20:24

when I worked in the NHS, a colleague called in to say she had repeated diarrhoea. Direct patient role. She was told she would be disciplined if she didn't come into work. She was dead a week later.

That is shameful. An absolute disgrace. I found the NHS to be the least concerned about staff welfare of any employer I've ever had.

LittleRen · 15/02/2020 20:31

@RedToothBrush I will check, we have full worldwide cover with Natwest so will look at the document. Who is yours with?

NemophilistRebel · 15/02/2020 20:37

I’m natwest too and flying twice between now and May so fingers crossed

(All European )

RedToothBrush · 15/02/2020 20:41

Another bank. So I suspect natwest will be similar to be competitive.

www.thestar.com/politics/provincial/2020/02/13/ontario-couple-have-recovered-but-are-still-testing-positive-for-coronavirus.html

Ontario’s first two cases of the new coronavirus — a husband and wife — have recovered but remain in isolation at their home because tests still show them carrying the bug, authorities say.

Nose and throat swabs taken since the man was released from Sunnybrook hospital two weeks ago continue to show traces of coronavirus in both him and his wife, who was never hospitalized.

And

“We don’t know that means, whether that’s live or dead virus,” Allen said. “There’s some component of virus in those specimens and the criteria that have been laid out are being followed, that we required two negative specimens until we understand more about what that means.”

Those tests must be taken at least 24 hours apart.

originalcatlady · 15/02/2020 20:44

@GorkyMcPorky so will the NHS care if the staff call in sick with coronavirus symptoms?

WaterSheep · 15/02/2020 20:44

Has there been any updates on the 8 month old child with additional health concerns? I think his test results were supposed to come back today.

WaterSheep · 15/02/2020 20:47

have recovered but remain in isolation at their home because tests still show them carrying the bug

Now I accept i'm not an expert on these things, but surely if you're still testing positive for the virus then you're still contagious, and therefore not recovered. Confused

RedToothBrush · 15/02/2020 21:00

Now I accept i'm not an expert on these things, but surely if you're still testing positive for the virus then you're still contagious, and therefore not recovered.

To be fair the experts are saying they don't know what it means, so 'recovered' does seem to be a stretch....

Given the stuff earlier about 'catching the disease a second time' after recovering its not a reassuring story either.

Looks like there is a new confirmed case in France in the area Brighton man went on holiday.

RedToothBrush · 15/02/2020 21:02

Also not reassuring is the husband of the woman from the Westerdam who has tested positive.

He has symptoms. But hasn't tested positive yet.

LoadsaBlusher · 15/02/2020 21:06

That full westerdam ship are now out and about and heading home

Apparently the lady was only picked up trying to fly out of Kuala Lumpur by high temp scan ?

So were many more asymptomatic passengers allowed through and continued to their home countries

Ticking time bomb 💣

I mentioned this previously but its well worth a watch. In particular it shows the massive impact of hand washing.

PlomBear · 15/02/2020 21:08

If people aren’t allowed to be off work sick this virus will spread. NHS workers infecting vulnerable patients.

mamapants · 15/02/2020 21:12

red where have you seen about the new case in France?

Words · 15/02/2020 21:15

I'd stay far away from Disney
1 on principle ( 95per cent)
And
2 because hygiene 4.5 per cent
And
3 cost 0.5 per cent
Factor in potential social suicide . Variable.

mamapants · 15/02/2020 21:16

Also someone posted earlier about 6 cases in South America and I read the article but now the story seems to have disappeared? Does anyone have a link?

RedToothBrush · 15/02/2020 21:24

Sky news reporting it on twitter in the last hour.

Apirateslifeforme · 15/02/2020 21:59

Personally, I'd say keep well away from Disney until this is well and truly over. We go every year and do Disneyland Paris multiple times a year (AP holders) and I cancelled a trip last week given the opportunity for someone to pass it on. We always see a lot of Chinese tourists and given that you can be asymptomatic but still able to pass on the virus, and personal space is seriously short, It didnt seem like a good idea to put us in that situation. At the best of times you can pick up some serious nasties, let alone now (I went in October of 2018, I got what I thought was a normal chest infection, what followed was 10 months of coughing up large amounts of blood, wouldn't go away with the 4 sets of antibiotics I'd been given- I'd take no chances now!)

You may also be better off waiting till next year anyway, they're bound to have some really special things planned for their 50th anniversary.

EgonSpengler2020 · 15/02/2020 22:14

Just started a thread for HCPs/ medical scientists interested in an evidenced based discussion or peer-to-peer support over specific concerns related to the work we do and how it might be affected by Covid 19.

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/am_i_being_unreasonable/3824126-Covid-19-Thread-for-HCPs-PH-specialists-Epidemiologists-research-scientists-etc?watched=1&msgid=93969104#93969104

I have been regularly following and occasionally posting on this thread under a different user name, so this isn't a blatent hijack!

Albatross123 · 15/02/2020 23:01

Link to reports of new case from French chalet: www.rtl.fr/actu/bien-etre/coronavirus-la-ministere-de-la-sante-confirme-un-12e-cas-en-france-7800102282

This is worrying because it is a long time since the guy who travelled from Singapore left the chalet on 28th January.

backtonormalname · 15/02/2020 23:33

it says though Albatross that they have been in hospital a week already? but for some reason only tested positive now? Another Brit.

Theraincloud8 · 15/02/2020 23:37

I’m not for the simple reason most people with it get better

Albatross123 · 15/02/2020 23:46

backtonormalname I guess it shows how unreliable the test is.
