To not think 26 is young to be pregnant

My friend has recently announced that she’s pregnant. I’m delighted for her however she’s getting a lot of comments from people saying she’s too young and that she will regret it when she’s older. She’s recently brought a house with her partner and both have stable jobs.

It might be younger than the average nowadays but certainly not too young at all

honesttogod · 08/02/2020 18:57

I was 25 when I had my first and I didn't feel young. Tell her to ignore the silly comments.

Motacilla · 08/02/2020 18:58

Some people feel the need to comment whatever age people have their children and however much it is none of their business.

Herringbone31 · 08/02/2020 18:59

My friend had her first at 24. She had her 11th at 43

If she hadn’t if started young. She couldn’t of had her family. (Before anyone judges. Both have very successful own businesses. So don’t have any benefits at all)

stormciarathegale · 08/02/2020 18:59

Not too young at all but if she's planning to go PT or cut hours or become a SAHM it is strongly advisable to get married or have a civil partnership.

MotherOfAllNameChanges · 08/02/2020 18:59

Its rude of people to comment.
It is very young though these days though.
🤷‍♀️

Areyoufree · 08/02/2020 19:12

Really? That's so rude! People can be such dicks.

DontGoJasonWaterfalls · 08/02/2020 19:15

I don't think it's young but I'm 25 and TTC #2. Had DD at 19.

Its all relative isn't it? 🤷‍♀️

firawla · 08/02/2020 19:18

It’s not that young, people commenting saying she’ll regret it are just totally rude.

Isbutteracarb · 08/02/2020 19:22

I don't think it's young at all but agree with the pp who said it's all relative, my mum and sister both had their babies after 30 and were shocked when I got pregnant at 29 Hmm

gamerwidow · 08/02/2020 19:23

It's all relative, in some areas she'll be the youngest mum by miles, in others it won't be of note.
It's not a ridiculously young age to have a baby but it's younger than average (which is 30.3) and a lot of people will not be at that life stage and find it unimaginable to have a baby in their twenties. Either way it's wrong of people to be expressing their negative views to her.

CathyTre · 08/02/2020 19:24

I had my first at 22 and now have children 20, 7 and 4 years old.

Easier with first as my ex didn’t leave me when he was a baby with a teenager and a toddler as well to look after 🤷‍♀️

namechanger2019 · 08/02/2020 19:25

I had my first at 25 and 2nd at 26, I wasn't a young mum at all.

Rainbowx · 08/02/2020 19:27

Had my child aged 20 only one due to health later I'm 36 now I cant have children so feel blessed I had one young

moresugarpls · 08/02/2020 19:32

Certainly not young. I had my first at 27 and felt anything but.

I consider late teens to early twenties to be young. I.e. 18-23

ClinkyMonkey · 08/02/2020 19:33

It's right when it feels right, no matter what age. I was 41 and 45 when I had my 2. Wish I'd done it sooner, but that's the way life goes sometimes. Nobody said anything, but maybe they were thinking I was a right old bag. I can't believe anyone would pass comment on something so personal. Bloody busybodies.

ragged · 08/02/2020 19:33

I know a few people in last 3 yrs had their first at 17yo. 18yo DD went to school with a girl whose mother had her 2nd child (DD's mate) at age 17. I can't rate 26 as young at all.

getyourarseoffthequattro · 08/02/2020 19:37

I had ds at 20. Same as your friend had a partner a house and a good job. Didnt feel young then. 24 now and definitely dont feel young now!

26 isnt young at all.

phoenixrosehere · 08/02/2020 19:38

Not young at all.

My mum had me at 23. I had my 1st at 28. I have people I grew up with whose children are teenagers while mine are 5 and under. I have classmates who became pregnant between 13-17. My own dad asked me at 22 when I was going to settle down and think about having a family because he wanted grandchildren and his friends have grandchildren 🙄. 26 is not young these days.

WarrenNicole · 08/02/2020 19:38

Had my first at 29, and pregnant with my second at 32. I would have felt too young at 26.

THAT90sBITCH · 08/02/2020 19:38

26 is fine! I had dc3 at 25!

Weegiepie · 08/02/2020 19:42

I had my DS at 26 - I didn't get any comments at all! People are rude

firstimemamma · 08/02/2020 19:43

In a documentary I saw about pregnancy I learned that the national uk average for a woman to have her first baby is 27. This may not be 100% accurate obviously, but even so it's only a year away from 26.

26 isn't "too young" or "very young" at all in my books. Perhaps it seems young in the eyes of other people.

Itstheprinciple · 08/02/2020 19:45

I was 25. Great age IMO.

x2boys · 08/02/2020 19:47

No it's not to young but it depends on circumstances at 26 i was very much single and still enjoying lots of nights out and wild holidays ,but her circumstances are very different
