Quorn meatballs

Where have they gone?! Just used the last pack in the freezer and the supermarkets didn't have any when I went.

Any similar suggestions? Trying the birds eye ones tonight so will see how we go.

Hope the Quorn nuggets don't disappear now!

I probably am being unreasonable but I know what I like and I don't want to compromise 😁

Grr..bold fail - EvilPea

I suppose with it being mycoprotein perhaps it's more difficult to manufacture/store? I've never really thought about it, must admit to being very lazy about this stuff. As long as it's veggie I cba to read a load of blah about it which is probably not

EvilPea · 08/02/2020 16:51

no I’m quite lazy with it too arseaboutdarkly
I know I love anything quorn, dislike the soya stuff and most of the linda McCartney stuff - although I love the cheese and leek things that have also disappeared.

I think everyone is right it’s all disappearing for vegan isn’t it. Whilst ethically I want to be vegan all the dairy replacements are expensive and or shit.

Arseaboutdarkly · 08/02/2020 17:05

Yeah, DP has been doing non-dairy for a few weeks now, the milk substitutes are horrible and full of sugar. Then again, the dairy industry is notorious

Seen Linda McCartney leek and cheese last week but didn't buy them as their too easy to make and cheaper (block of pastry, leeks and cheese bish bash bosh etc They are very nice though

ironic really that the vegans will make the same arguments about animal cruelty to vegetarians as veggies used to make to meat-eaters!

caramellasagne · 08/02/2020 17:34

Quote is disgusting I don’t know what the hell it is but it makes every member of our family Ill and hospitalised one person with a severe allergic reaction ! It’s evil !!!

caramellasagne · 08/02/2020 17:34

*Quorn

LuluBellaBlue · 08/02/2020 17:39

Linda Mc Cartney ones are amazing, I can’t compare them to the Quorn ones though as I’m violently ill if I eat Quorn!

mumwon · 08/02/2020 21:39

Linda McCartney contain too much wheat & beans for me

SaskiaRembrandt · 09/02/2020 08:08

I bought some of the LInda McCartney cheese and leek things a couple of weeks ago.

Agree about the trendy new lines, they are overpriced and not very nice. I suppose Quorn have been doing their thing for so long they have been able to establish what people do like.

And yes, the way vegetarian stuff is being replaced by vegan stuff is annoying -just as a good range of veggie products had become available they are being replaced.

Alaimo · 09/02/2020 08:31

I like the Linda McC veggie meatballs.

Ikea also sell veggie meatballs (both in their restaurants and in the food shop bit). It's been a while since I've tried them, but they seemed okay to me. They're not really fake meat though, more like chopped & mashed veg in the shape of a ball.

EvilPea · 09/02/2020 08:58

The ikea ones are like the veggie sausages pre quorn days. So mushed up veg with peas and sweet corn in.
They are quite nice, but not a meat substitute.

I find it odd now if I go out for breakfast and they serve those kind of veggie sausages. I mean, who wants sweetcorn and peas for breakfast

chocolatespiders · 09/02/2020 09:10

I am still upset that sainsburys and other supermarkets removed own brand cumberland vegetarian sausages. They were my saturday lunch staple in french stick

Seem to have been replaced with shroom sausages which I do not like.

There was actually a thread on here about them going so they must have been popular.

I agree if the quorn nuggets go salad wraps will never be the same!

Mylo25 · 09/02/2020 09:12

Linda McCartney ones are nice x

KatherineJaneway · 09/02/2020 09:15

Does anyone remember the lemon and black pepper (crumbed) Quorn escalopes from years ago? They were amazing.

I remember those, I added even more lemon and pepper when cooking but they were great. They used to have plain quorn fillets in a white sauce which was lovely but they must have stopped it years ago.

I do wish I could get some hard tofu though. It's all silken and can't stand up to wok frying.

thenightsky · 09/02/2020 09:24

Lemon and black pepper Quorn fillets were the best!
I get non-silken tofu in Tesco.

chocolatespiders · 09/02/2020 09:26

Lemon and pepper escalopes were amazing!

Whatsername177 · 09/02/2020 09:33

I've noticed this too. All of the vegan alternatives In restaurants are processed fake meat type stuff. Dont get me wrong, I like quorn fake meat - but I cook it at home, I dont want to pay restaurant prices for it. I like vegan food where the veg is the main event. I like veggie food when there is cheese.

BoogieFeet · 09/02/2020 09:33

Haven’t been able to buy them here for months Sad Used to have them weekly as they were a rare meal that the whole family was happy to eat.
We’ve been trying alternatives with limited success. No one liked the Sainsbury’s ones, my son rejected all other ones he tried. I’m now back to serving up ‘real’ meatballs to my son, and Linda McCartney fridge ones (nice but expensive and without the convenience of frozen) for the rest of us.

RiftGibbon · 09/02/2020 09:38

They were great. My local shops have all stopped stocking then so I guessed a supply issue.
I tried the Co-Op own vegan ones yesterday and the texture is awful - like eating a bath sponge.😑
I do wonder, when companies are creating these things, whether the food tasters have any taste buds, or have ever eaten food before. Seems that anything vegan has a really weird texture, at the moment.

JayeAshe · 09/02/2020 09:39

Co-Op own brand frozen vegan meatballs are a good texture although they need a lot of seasoning IME

bebumba · 09/02/2020 09:41

Our local CO-OP does some nice meatballs in the freezer. I think they are branded GRO. Can't check I'm afraid as I have eaten them all 😀

JayeAshe · 09/02/2020 09:42

Ha Riftgibbon cross posted. I fry the co-op ones in a drop of oil to firm up the outsides before putting them i sauce or onion gravy.

labazsisgoingmad · 09/02/2020 09:45

im a fussy eater but Quorn was my saving food i dont eat meat rarely eggs not keen on fish cos of the bones but Quorn sausages meat balls sausages and patties etc were amazing my dp eats them though he is not vegi

Lordfrontpaw · 09/02/2020 09:46

I like the Tival ones but yes, I’ve noticed that these aren’t always available now (not frozen sweet corn & peas for the quorn ‘meat’balls, sausages and hot dogs).

I have also noticed more and more ‘Vegan’ food sections in supermarkets - so much less vegetarian food. This is really irritating for a vegetarian - the assumption is that whilst it is trendy to be vegan, vegetarians will be happy to go vegan as a default.

I don’t buy huge amounts of ready made foot but I do like my quorn hot dogs and arancini (too lazy to make my own).

Lordfrontpaw · 09/02/2020 16:18

I have just gone to make my curried meatballs (yes I know it sounds 🤢 but it’s nice really) and could only lay my hands on Waitrose own brand soya balls rather than my usual Tival ones.

A few have broken apart when I tried to fry them with some onion - now it’s on to cook with the tomatoes, so I imagine it will be a rather thick lumpy soup by the end of it!

ultrablue · 09/02/2020 16:24

Asda own brand ones are the best imo. And I'm not vegetarian.
