Quorn meatballs

Where have they gone?! Just used the last pack in the freezer and the supermarkets didn't have any when I went.

Any similar suggestions? Trying the birds eye ones tonight so will see how we go.

Hope the Quorn nuggets don't disappear now!

I probably am being unreasonable but I know what I like and I don't want to compromise 😁

falafels are quite nice I make my own veg patties (fussy dd) in desperation because she didn't at that time like most beans & I wanted to increase the variety
tine of butter beans drained
cooked mash potatoes (about double the amount of beans)
finely chopped onion
half finely chopped capsicum
salt & pepper herbs (rosemary or whatever you like)
dash of paprika & or bit of tabasco
make into flat cakes place in oven cook until browned & crispy serve with sweet chilly sauce or tomato sauce or whatever

FamilyOfAliens · 07/02/2020 21:45

I now use fried and chopped up Richmond Vegan sausages instead of meatballs and everyone in our family much prefers them.

EvilPea · 07/02/2020 21:55

I noticed the quorn section in Sainsbury’s was pretty empty this week. Just roasts left.

I love quorn stuff. It’s reliably nice. A lot of the fake meat stuff has an awful after taste so is a massive waste of money. If it’s quorn I know it’s nice.

caffeinefix · 07/02/2020 22:01

Not sure if anyone has mentioned this - saw PP ask where the sausages are. I picked up a pack in Aldi today

fruitpastille · 07/02/2020 22:30

My DS likes the Linda McCartney ones. Have bought nuggets recently in sainsburys.

Specialkp · 07/02/2020 22:31

@DropZoneOne not them too - also our favourites 😭 . I’ve been veggie for 35 years and love quorn as an easy option. I can’t see myself making my own meatballs - I liked the fact they were ready made (lazy cook)

Antihop · 07/02/2020 22:35

@Arseaboutdarkly try the fry's smoked hotdogs. I love them. You can get them in sainsbury's.

Crockof · 07/02/2020 22:41

Quorn seems to have really dropped out of fashion, major supermarkets seem to prefer other New jazzy brands (see little Willie's which are rank)
They are also making more of their range vegan. As a lifelong veggie this does make me sad as vegan Quorn is not as nice as veggie Quorn.

FizzyIce · 07/02/2020 22:58

Very handy thread ! Looking for stuff for ds , Tesco has been crap lately for vegan stuff

thesunwillout · 07/02/2020 23:07

Anyone noticed normal Quorn frozen sausages have buggered off too?
Also the packs of four burgers.
So many new brands are taking over.
I tried the Birds eye fake meat balls the other day, literally like baked sofa foam.
Awful.

PomBearWithAnOFRS · 07/02/2020 23:07

My DD is vegan, and we get the "Veggie Kitchen" stuff from Farm Foods. They do burgers, sausages, mince, meat balls, chicken nuggets and chicken pieces, and they are really nice. They are very reasonably priced too, the big packs of chicken nuggets and pieces are 3 for £10 (for 1kg packs) and the rest are 3 for £5 for smaller packs. They last ages, and she makes all sorts of dishes from them.
I would recommend them to anyone, vegan or not Smile

Dixiechickonhols · 07/02/2020 23:09

I’m not veggie but missing the sausage patties. They were ideal for a quick breakfast.

TheHagOnTheHill · 07/02/2020 23:10

We miss them too, have tried other brands but they don't taste as nice, the Linda macartney especially tasteless.
Some things are coming back vegan and not as nice.
Some of the trendier'plant based' products are especially rank and also expensive.
Agree that Tesco are v poor on vegetarian stuff.

rainyetagain · 07/02/2020 23:10

I emailed quorn about this a few months ago (sad I know). They told me that they were temporarily out of stock but that they were hoping to bring them back very soon. That was back in September though so I'm not holding my breath HmmI thought the birds eye ones were good though, but defo not as good as the quorn ones

Dieu · 08/02/2020 01:13

My kids didn't like the Birds Eye ones at all.
Does anyone remember the lemon and black pepper (crumbed) Quorn escalopes from years ago? They were amazing.
Love Quorn nuggets too.

Fieldofgreycorn · 08/02/2020 01:21

Also, where did the Cumberland sausages go?

Yes! I loved those original Cauldron Cumberland sausages. The ones they replaced them with were horrible.

FamilyOfAliens · 08/02/2020 10:55

I wonder if vegetarian fast food is being phased out in favour of vegan products? I’ve been vegetarian for 35 years and have definitely noticed a trend in restaurants towards offering only vegan options on the grounds they’re suitable for vegetarians.

Though I notice no-one is saying everyone can eat the vegan options so there’s no need for meat and fish ...

EvilPea · 08/02/2020 12:35

Yes all this new fancy really expensive plant based stuff that’s too expensive to try in case it’s shit.
Quorn was good, I live in a carnivore house. So I’d make them pasta and meatballs, and just do the pasta and take a few quorn ones out the freezer for me.

It worked
Buying expensive fridge ones doesn’t work for me.

SerenDippitty · 08/02/2020 12:39

Gosh veggie cocktail sausages are lovely.

Arseaboutdarkly · 08/02/2020 15:13

Antihop I don't know those? I go in Sainsburys a lot but haven't seen them here. i'm in Devon so maybe they haven't travelled this far..

Shame, I did the quorn ones for a kids party once and they all went made for them, none of the carvinores noticed the difference. Then again 'real' hot-dogs are bit weird themselves anyway!

Yes all this new fancy really expensive plant based stuff that’s too expensive to try in case it’s shit.

The good thing about Quorn was that it wasn't soya so didn't have that horrible sawdust taste of the old veggie meat-substitutes. it was a real revelation when it appeared.

EvilPea · 08/02/2020 15:46

Yes it’s a special fungus isn’t it. So still plant based.

But I’m hoping people got what I meant with the plant based expensive comment.

thenightsky · 08/02/2020 16:08

&I wonder if vegetarian fast food is being phased out in favour of vegan products*?

I noticed this at Christmas time when there was no vegetarian option on Christmas menus anymore. Those of us who are veggie, but love cheese and dairy are stuck with the vegan option which is usually something I don't fancy.

And yes, there is a national shortage of Quorn at the moment. DH saw a news item about it yesterday. I blame the vegan January people.

Arseaboutdarkly · 08/02/2020 16:21

Sorry 'Evilpea* I quoted you and forgot to add my comment agreeing with you - I think a lot of this stuff is overpriced and actually not as good

ILookAtTheFloor · 08/02/2020 16:22

Yes I messaged Quorn on their FB page some months ago and they suggested that they will return. I miss them!! Nothing else compares. I moved to the frozen Quorn sausages and now I can't get them either!

A frozen Quorn item in a jar pasta sauce with tagliatelle is my go-to 'can't be arsed' dinner and the Linda McCartney stuff just isn't the same.

ILookAtTheFloor · 08/02/2020 16:23

And I definitely agree with the vegan stuff taking over.

I still haven't got over Yo Sushi removing tamago nigri from the menu!! Just because it had egg in it. We're not all vegan you know! Give me my tamago!
